Same result, 1-1, but Blackpool showed more fight in the six minutes of injury time than we have showed over the whole season. Every player was playing for the shirt, every player played with passion, determination and pride. And no little skill into the bargain.
Player for player, we are unquestionably the stronger team, but Blackpool are organised and motivated, unlike our ramshackle bunch of hollow men. They will probably still go down, but if we are honest, they deserve to stay up far more than we do. How much do you think the entire Blackpool team earns a week? Probably not as much as Dyer and Parker's combined wage!
Our Player of the Year was sitting in the stands today. Charlie Adam was out there in the thick of the battle and, inevitably, won and scored the penalty that gave Blackpool what could yet be a life saving point.
And on the subject of Parker, it is worth noting that whilst he chose to watch Chelsea play Tottenham last Saturday, a certain Jason Roberts was commentating for local radio on the Man City v West Ham game, getting very excited, apparently, at the frailties in our defence. What a shame Parker didn't get himself along to the Blackburn game to do a bit of scouting for his current team instead of watching his next team instead!
Quite a stretch to turn that into a criticism of Parker. Kudos, you outrageous cretin.
ReplyDeleteAnd Charlie even got a little bit of revenge for the POTY award...
ReplyDelete@ 20:08 and you really think that Parker is gonna stay on after we get relegated... Yeah right! There is no loyalty in the game these days. Not unless you play for one of the top teams. That way you know you will get big bucks and you know you're probably gonna get the best chance to win something.
ReplyDeleteThe only way we will keep ahold of the better players would be if no-one else comes in for them. To be honest with the way we're playing we'd be better off with an entire new squad anyway...
In some ways I totally agree with Hammered.
ReplyDeleteIn American sport, when a team does as badly as we have it is known that changes will be made. But often the long term, high paying deals the team signed their so called "stars" to are a hindrance to change. Take my favorite baseball team the New York Mets. We suck. And we have one of the highest payrolls in the league. Other teams won't take our "stars" because they make too much on long term guaranteed contracts. So we are stuck with them. Release clauses would be welcome relief to be honest.
So when we cry over the release clauses for players, or read that agents are demanding transfers, remember what these players did for us this year. Or more-so, didn't do for us. Kind of like ending a really bad relationship. While in it you are utterly miserable, yet the idea of ending it seems painful. Once it's over and you move on, you wonder why the hell you were so upset.
West Ham is broken beyond repair in its current state. We've played Russian Roulette with relegation for so long our time has come. And when it is said that we are going to lose our best players, I wonder what a great loss it is! None of them are as good as we wish they were, and thus not worth as much as we think. And we have possibly the worst manager in our history, including Roeder. Maybe that's harsh. I don't know.
I hate what has happened. I work hard, I have two kids, and my one vice so to speak are the Hammers. But like an alcoholic that reaches rock bottom and needs to admit he needs help, we have sunk that far. Perhaps a cleaning of the house will help long term. Let Sears, Hines, Stanislas and the like run their hearts out for us under the guidance of an enthusiastic and talented manager. Maybe by December next year we will be at or near the top of the Championship and this year will be a distant blur.
I believe we will return to the EPL by the time we take up residency in the Olympic Stadium. The payoff is potentially so great it will make financial sense for the owners to continually invest until we are back up.
Long post, I know. But it's my catharsis. For now.
you lot whingeing about losing Parker get real last time we lost Glen Johnson,Joe Cole, Trevor Siclair, Michael Carrick, Jermain Defoe etc etc plus which Paulo DiCanio offered to stay on at reduced wages but was shown the door
