Unchanged team but no cover on bench for Tomkins!

I am not quibbling about Doctor Evil naming an unchanged team but the substitutes bench makes odd reading. Yes it is good to see Carew there. Yes it is promising to see Barrera there. Yes it is interesting to see Faubert there as an attacking option. But where is the cover for Tomkins? He limped off against Watford and has had to battle to be fit for this game. Surely Sam is taking a big chance by not having either Faye or Linda on the bench?

I hope that decision doesn't return to haunt him but we know that if it can go wrong, it will go wrong; so expect Tomkins to pull up after eight minutes! What then? O'Brien at centre back and Faubert at right back? Frightening thought!

  1. Maybe that's what big John Carew is on the bench for! Haha!

  3. defence defence defence - poor old fat sam and his hoofing tactics - no room for a good defence.

  4. Get ready for a few years in the Championship if we continue to play like that!

I am sorry, but what I saw today was most disappointing. Leeds had most of the possession and were by far the better passing team. The same could be said for the game against Cardiff.

We could not put more than three passes together, gave Leeds too much ground in the middle of the park and defended too deeply throughout the match. Apart from Parker no other West Ham player was willing to dive into the fire.

Noble was his usual pathetic and tentative, giving the ball away many times. There was a terrible pass back in the first half from Noble which was probably the best assist Leeds had in the whole. Lucky, they didn't score from that.

Nolan was very disappointing too. Very lethargic in everything he did. And Reid is not the finished item and clearly cannot fulfil the role he was assigned to in that position.

Tomkins had a very good game and I was impressed by how much he has improved.

Unless, we learn how to keep the ball and dominate possession (at least for our home games) we have no chance of coming back. The team is too disjointed and I am not carried away with two wins against the likes of Doncaster and Watford.

  5. So why not Faye on the bench. Is he unfit or did he spit out his dummy when Tomkins was selected?

I'm disappointed by the result but Sam will fix it. He will turn our team into winners - you can't just put the last 3 seasons in a box and pretend they didn't happen, in time Sam will make us more resilient.

  6. interesting sav but parker los tthe ball alot more the noble and one pass does not mean you played bad

  7. It was not just one bad pass Fred. Noble is consistently a bad defender and very often he loses the ball when he goes forward leading to dangerous counter attacks.

  8. yes but sav noble did not consistently lose the ball today and i also saw a quality ball which we almost scored from on the stroke of half time you are one of these people who just think noble is a bad player and will look for every fault every game he didnt play that well today but he didnt have a bad game nonetheless and at least noble didnt try and give away a penalty like parker.

  9. Parker did not "try" to give away a penalty!

I am not against Noble at all. I am sure that he can play better and I remember some games that he was probably the man of the match. I am not against or in favour of anyone dogmatically. But with all due respect, there is no comparison between what Parker gives in every game and the contribution of Noble in recent games.

Unlike HF, I think that West Ham will be a lot poorer without Scott. That is true. The last thing anyone of us can question is the commitment of Scott on the field.

  10. Nobody denies the commitment but it is the quality that is the issue. What did he create today? It the ref had eyes, he would have given the penalty for that Parker challenge!

  11. Well our midfield looks congested witrh parker in the team and i question his commitment as last year he was giving 110 percent but this year he dont look anywhere near the saame player in a worse league
