QPR's Fernandes Flying More Kites!

Plane Kite Festival
I thought this guy Fernandes had a fleet of airliners; if so, why does he spend his life flying kites? Over at West Ham we are used to bullshit and some of us with a brain now know how to spot it at 35,000 feet, but the poor old Rs fans seem to be taking this Fernandes guy to heart!

The latest spin to keep the fans buzzing is talk of buying a new stadium. And haven't we seen at West Ham what a great distraction that is to what is happening on the football pitch? And we are not alone! Leicester built a new stadium and were relegated. Boro built a new stadium and were relegated. Coventry built a new stadium and were relegated. Sunderland built a new stadium and were relegated. Liverpool started talking about building a new stadium and promptly plummeted down the division. Arsenal built a new stadium and stopped winning trophies. Man Utd haven't built a new stadium and neither have Chelsea and strangely, they have kept winning all the trophies!

But no matter. Fernandes likes to talk big and is setting out a road map for QPR to be a megaclub with a 50,000 capacity stadium. Never mind that prices had to be dropped to fill little old Loftus Road in the first season back in the Prem for years. Never mind that the ground wasn't always full even when QPR finished second in the top division with some genuinely great players in the team. No, you don't need fans to need a big new shiny stadium, you just need ambition! Or a lorry load of bullshit!

Fernandes uses a classic line in his latest wheeze, telling anybody stupid enough to listen: "We will have to move and we are looking around. You need lofty ambitions and as we move up the Premier League it will be very important to build a fan base.”

Well no, Tony, you don't. QPR already have a fan base. They are fans who, unlike you, have supported the club through thick and thin since birth, die hard Rs whose hearts and souls are in the club. Fan bases are not built. Yes there are plastic fans who attach themselves to clubs during the good times - 13 and 14 year old boys who change scarves according to who their mates support - but they disappear as soon as a club drops below 4th in the table. Isn't it amazing how that strange creature, the university educated Scouser has all but become extinct in the Home Counties in recent years?

And what's this nonsense about climbing up the Premiership table? QPR are below Swansea and Norwich as we speak and 3 points off a relegation place. The Rs caught Everton on an off day and haven't yet played a top team. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool and Spurs all lie ahead and there are not many teams in the division who haven't had to play at least one of that lot so far. Bolton are bottom but they have played Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. And who did they get their 3 points against? 4-0. Think about it all you cocky Rs!

So why has Fernandes come out with this now? Well it is a long international break and that 6-0 thumping at Fulham may just encourage a few fans to start doubting the Malaysian Messiah. Time to crank up the PR, time to feed the dream machine, time for some froth to drown out reality.

I know you QPR fans think I am having a go but I'm not. We have been through it at West Ham and Fernandes is following the claret and blueprint! I don't want QPR to go down - despite Warnock, Barton, Gabbidon and Dyer - but this Fernandes guy is a publicity whore like Sullivan and Gold. Do you want the dream of a new stadium or the reality of a decent team on the pitch? Fernandes will dangle the one whilst packing the squad with poor quality off loads - players like Wright Phillips, Anton Ferdinand, D J Campbell and Bothroyd. I hope I am wrong but I fear turbulence ahead!

  2. Why are you obsessed with QPR? You really are a sad little man

  3. What an absolute load of rubbish, jealous Hammer?

Enjoy the Championship season and your new stadium when you get there (if you can actually see the pitch that is!). We'll see where both clubs go in the next couple of years... That was 5 minutes of my life I won't get back reading your drivel X

  4. Fernandes is hogging the headlines. Just like Sullivan and Gold did when they arrived. Keep watching. My prediction is that you will be watching Championship football next season.

  6. I think you are absolutely spot on mate. Have you seen our run in? If we dont rack up some points before christmas we're gonners. And agree with your assertion that we have only bought cast offs. However, if you have been an R's fan over the last 10 years anything is something to get excited about. Let us have our few months of delusion before we join you in the championship.

  7. Good to know that there are some intelligent QPR fans out there Stan, and not just a bunch of knee jerk morons. Good that you are paying tribute to one of the most talented English footballers I have ever had the privilege to see play the game too. Bowles was a genius. Shame about the gambling and the fear of flying. He merited many more caps. How ironic that the boss of an airline company is now in charge of the club the Bowles graced so charismatically.

  8. Hammersfan, you really cannot let this thing go. I appreciate there are some sympathy comments to Rs fans in that article but all in all it is rivel. There is no comparison here with the hammers. They guy is ambitious and has prove he is willing to have a go. These poor quality off loads have completely changes our team for the better and everyone can see that. Yes we got hammered against Fulham but it looks like it was there day and would have beaten most. They clicked and put everything away with aplomb. I can accept that and there will be more hammerings but thats fine, we are the new boys, we are realistic and thats why we gave the Rs a standing ovation at the cottage. Whats cocky about that.
The 4-0 against Bolton, well 1. totally different team than we have now 2. a lot nerves out there, was obvious 3. They got two wicked deflections and an og to boot. So lets put that one to be once and for all.

"Keep watching. My prediction is that you will be watching Championship football next season."

Thats not the first time you have predicted this. i look forward to digging up this article at the end of the season to show how non sensical you were.

Whats wrong with moving to a bigger ground, it makes complete sense. How many successful clubs do you know have a capacity of 19k. As much as I love Loftus Rd, it is the right thing to do. No real star player would be attracted until this happens. Ground share, why not. We will move but when?. Right now I am not concerned. I am not istracted by this. I am really enjoying our premiership start so far and cannot wait until we play the big 6. Thats what it is all about. Positions in the table are false right now bar the top three.

To round off, I am not cocky, I would be happy with a 17th place finish and seems you need to get that chip off your shoulder. Oh and there is nothing more I would like than playing you next year in the prem. Some nice comments but a bit deluded.

  10. Well said Irish. The trouble is, the new stadium idea is a distraction. If you did ground share, who would it be with? Chelsea? Do they neeed a junior partner? Fulham? Can QPR and Fulham combined outbid Chelsea? And if you do, surely you would involve overpaying horribly?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes, you are bang on about paying over the odds if we got into a bidding war with Chelski, particularly over the bbc grounds. But if the financial burden is shared with Fulham (no other option, club wise if we want to stay in the area which for me is vital), it could work. Ground sharing is not new and we have precedent with Palace and Wasps. Speaking of which Wasps, maybe our only other option as they are looking for a new ground after their sports village in high wycombe fell through. Problem there though is owner Steve Hayes is looking for a new owner who will have their own ideas.
I am not saying the ground share will happen but it is an option. I just sometimes look at Loftus Rd and think its a bit outdated, are we lagging behind other London clubs. I love Loftus but think we need to move on. We (the Irish) moved out of our version of Loftus Rd in Landsdowne Rd, a fantastic venue full of history but we are now very proud of our Aviva Stadium and look forward to a new era of Irish international football.

  13. Blimey Hammersfan, you seem more worried about QPR than your own sorry lot. I have to agree with your views on a new stadium though. QPR would not need a new stadium till their Premiership status is a lot more solid, and maybe not even then. We haven't got a huge fanbase, and I can't see it doubling just because there are more seats! Loftus Road is worth at least 10 points a season to us. It's small, noisy, with the crowd right on top of you. Just like the Dell was for Southampton & look what happened to them, & Coventry, & Leicester etc etc. I don't want to see QPR in the distance at some massive, soulless, half-empty stadium. I remember seeing them at the White City and it was fu.king terrible.
I don't agree with your assessment that ALL QPR's new signings are garbage. Do you really think Wright-Phillips & Barton are crap? Surely not.. they're quality players, and Luke Young's not bad either. I don't know why you're wasting so much time & space harping on about QPR, when WHU are in a far worse place. We're not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination, and, yes, we might get relegated this year, but why should you give a sh.t? Sort out your own problems instead of having a go at someone else. By the way, you're absolutley right about Stan Bowles. One of the best (if not THE best) players I've ever seen.

  14. As I've said elsewhere 1402, they have all been relegated from the Prem - Barton (Newcastle), Wright-Phillips (Man City), D J Campbell (Blackpool) Dyer & Gabbidon (West Ham) Luke Young (Charlton), Warnock (Shefffield United). Anton only avoided relegation courtesy of Warnock! Average, average players.

  15. If it wasn't for the knee jerker's you wouldn't have an audience - it's what you do best, winding up petty people just like yourself.

  16. Barton is an average average player? is that bait for the knee jerker's? you are so transparent and mind numbingly boring.......

  17. Armand Traore hasn't been relegated yet.

  18. Barton is nothing special is he? True, Traore hasn't gone down - YET!

  28. Why do you keep referring to players who were relegated? Teams get relegated not players. That's why they move on. I could name hundreds, but Scott Parker springs to mind. The quality change with our new players has been immense, and never mind the Everton game, Wolves and Newcastle was a little window on what will come when we have a decent striker - I.e Jamie Mackie back. If you actually watch qpr week in, week out, you know its impossible for us to be relegated this year - confirmed by the bookies - with mid table a real possibility.
You litter your essay with loads of little digs about being 'chelsea's junior partner' and "cocky little R's", so you're just a wind up merchant! It could work if you were amusing, but you're not very funny really, just tiresome.
At the end of the day though, i can see why you're upset. Your new stadium will be a dreadful way to watch football and it represents one of those rarest of rare reasons why one should change support.

  30. I must say you get a damn site more replies when you post about QPR and no doubt the all important hits go up too - why don't you just have a go at all the teams in the country and you'll get more angry knee jerk posts and more hits - you'll be like a pig in sh1te. From the amount of replies you get from Hammers fans I think you're probably getting close to the end.... people just can't be arsed anymore.

  31. Maybe AJ, or maybe there aint a lot of news about West Ham at the moment. Still in the top 10 on the News Now board for most West Ham threads. In fact 4 of the top 8 over the weekend. So maybe, yeah, you are right. Last legs.
