No sooner did I post that we needed three defenders than we edge closer to landing three defenders. It was frightfully impolite of me to call Sullivan stupid, and I take it back given work has clearly been going on behind the scenes to strengthen the defence. Two centre backs and a left back - Ramis, Collins & Boenisch - is exactly what the doctor ordered!
As for Collins, I was calling for him to be signed before the end of last season. I see him as the ideal partner for Tomkins. No nonsense and a forehead like a brick shit house when the ball is crossed into the box. With Diame sitting in front of the back four, there is suddenly a sense of solidity - and boy do we need that!
Kazim Richards may also be on the way. I'm ambivalent about that one to be honest and suspect there are better players out there, but he has done well in the friendlies apparently so maybe he deserves a chance. The interesting thing is that Maiga started as a winger, so he Vaz Te and Cole could all be used together if Allardyce is feeling positive!
So, assuming the three defenders all arrive like London buses we are now looking at a team like this:
Jussi
Demel Tomkins Collins Boenisch
Diame Noble
Nolan
Vaz Te Maiga
Cole
Subs: Henderson, McCartney, Ramis, Maynard, Morrison, Taylor, O'Neil
Apart from the fact that I know nothing about the Pole and that Demel is a yard dog, that side looks good enough to stay up to me!
It is still all rumours, conjecture and speculation. I cannot see anything on the WHUFC.com website announcing ANY of those players joining us. Until then I will remain skeptical about Sullivan just trying to sell season tickets
ReplyDeleteBut we haven't signed any of those 3 yet. Don't count your chickens.
ReplyDeleteI'm certainly NOT counting my Carrolls!
ReplyDeleteIf we sign any decent central defender then I don't see Tomkins keeping his place, and it saddens me to say that. He's been awful for GB.
ReplyDeleteAs for Carroll...
G&S call Nolan into their office and ask if he wants to earn a few extra bob. He says yes. They say to him, since youre close friends with Any Carrol, tell him that we're going to make a significant bid for him which Liverpool will not refuse. What we need him to do is once the news gets out, we want him to turn us down. This way, fans will see we're wanting to splash the cash and season tickets sales will rocket...as highlighted in the lead article currently on the site. The plan was then put into motion. Nice little story
I still feel this is a team thats set up to prevent teams playing against us rather then having our own style
ReplyDeleteIts not defenders you need,it's brickies.
ReplyDeleteRamis is a starter if he signs, my guess is Collins would be cover, however as others have said these deals are not done, in fact 2 were meant to be done by today...so don't hold your breath.
ReplyDeleteMick, I can't believe we keep missing out on all those quality players that Warnock is signing!
ReplyDeleteNot inspired by any players arriving, they're gonna be asked to play in a certain style aren't they!Allershite would destroy the Spanish national side given the chance!
ReplyDeleteYou old cynic Stani!!!! But I reckon you've called it right!
ReplyDeleteI dont because one Tomkins hasn't been awful hes just not playing like we know he can. Two Tomkins is better then collins and ramis is unknown and theres two center back positions so how is he going to be dropped. Three, bit off subject HF but have you seen jussi this pre season hes been awful a lot worse then green was and I have a feeling you will give him benefit of the doubt when you see him because you will compare certain aspects of his game to greens.
ReplyDeleteI will be honest about Jussi Fred. I'm keeping my fingers crossed he will have a good season but if he doesn't, I won't hold back!
ReplyDeleteIf you can't get any brickies to shore things up,i can recommend a cracking Indian keeper called Durga.
ReplyDeleteCul de sac says...
ReplyDeleteBoenisch is another yard dog like you say. He is very average, like the euro showed when playing with Poland. So my comment would be, why sign someone worse than McCartney ?
Ramis is a good player, not great, but a fighter, never gives up. Has collected a significant amount of cards in the Spansih league though, and I'm curious to see how he will do under Englsih standars and the awful refereeing you have in Britain.
I still think there are good and better players out there that would be pleased to play English first division. How about Van Damme,(Standard, Belgium), or Zaccardo (Parma, Italy), or Nilmar or most of the palyers from Villareal (Spain), that just got relegated ? Or from Racing Santander ? The options are out there. It just needs to be researched.
Ultimately, the same thing will happen over and over again. Transfers will start happening close to or at the deadline, or just before competition starts. Regrettable but that's the way it is.
Nobody seems to be mentioning that Ramis is likely not signing anymore. We have added Collins, and that is all. We are still very far away from safe back there.
ReplyDeleteNeed a new right back. With Collins now confirmed, I'd prefer to see the Ramis money go on a free transfer journeyman to provide a bit of extra cover at centre back with room for Spence who could get a turn at right back as well. We will be very vulnerable to all the quality wingers in PL if we don't get quality at RB. O'Brien and Demel are far too slow and both can play centre back so plenty of cover in that department. But we are not even Championship standard at RB,
ReplyDeleteCul de sac, Van Damme of Standard has had two failed spells in England? Couldn't even force his way into Wolves starting defence last season. And Nilmar would not come to us, he is far too good for us.
