Warnock Set To Add Another Piece To His Leeds Dream Team

Having recruited four players from Portsmouth, Warnock is now hoping to add a fifth relegated player to his squad, Coventry City's Martin Cranie. The Coventry man is available on a free, not that money should be a worry with billionaire owners just around the corner - although that corner is proving to be something of a hairpin bend coated in ice, an oil slick and broken glass!

Now I know Warnock is determined to get Leeds out of the Championship but I think it is about time that somebody mentioned that the idea is to secure promotion to the Premiership, not relegation to Division One! Quite why five players who struggled last season will suddenly transform into match winners when in a Leeds shirt is something of a mystery to anybody other than the die hard Leeds fans who will hear no criticism of their club. Perhaps Leeds will add Maynard to the ranks too. Ignore the fact that he was promoted with West Ham last season, the guy only scored two goals in Claret and Blue and spent half the season at Bristol City - in a relegation place!

It may well be that West Ham will return to the Championship after a year's holiday in the Prem but there's no guarantee we will play Leeds even if we do, because, at this rate, we will still be a division above the once mighty Whites.

Meanwhile, does anybody know when this take over will happen exactly?

  3. have to agree with you.If you want to play in the PL you buy PL players so i dont see how bringing in players that helped get their teams the drop are going to help Leeds. as for the take over beginning to think its bullshit.

  4. Portsmouth conceded very few goals last season, and only went down due to their points deduction, so adding their defensive spine to Leeds is not as bad as you are making out. With Cranie, yeah that one is a bad deal.

Who knows when or if the takeover will happen. It's as frustrating as it is secretive.

I, for one, hope West Ham do alright this upcoming season, but don't let that interrupt your trolling. Some of it is pretty funny, and some of us Leeds fans have a sense of humour.

  6. Needing to build a squad on the cheap, makes perfect sense, just need a couple of quality signings with the loose change from the sale of Snodgrass. Old enough to remember galvanising effect of Strachan & Fairclough that lifted out of the old Division 2 in 89/90' living in hope.......

  8. Tongue in cheek or trolling, you're doing a pretty good job of winding up some Leeds fans! A little close to the bone sometimes though, we're a long suffering bunch. I'll give you a fiver for Maynard by the way. That's about fair, right?

  13. İf you look at the facts! you wıll see that portsmouth had one of the better defensıve records(hence good mıd fıeld to) ın the leauge better than blackpools even. They wouldn't have went down wıthout poınt deductıon. what superstars dıd qpr have ın there team exactly? Kenny, connoly, tarrabt, mackıe and buzsacky were the best the rest were good solıd pro's(some mıght say average) ramage, hall, gabbıdon, derry, hulse, smıth, agymang and hıll. Warnock ıs followıng same blueprınt but wıth better players. Austın, kenny and pearce are class. drury, norrıs, peltır, varney, ashdown and green all top dependable players to have ın are leauge. Add the 3 flaır players warnock wants and what we got already lees, mcormack, becchıo, whıte, rogers, somma, pugh and brown etc we lookıng ın very good shape and easıly auto promotıon contenders wıth or wıthout take over! You cockney wanker, can you suck your own d**k yet or you stıll tryıng:-P WE ARE LEEDS!!

  14. 5 relegated players maybe, but only two who will feature 1st team football - ashdown, norris and crainie clearly all back ups - there's no harm in signing a few tried and tested championship players in case of injury to the starting 11.

I find your blog amusing, but you're a moron when it comes to football!

  15. Haha completely agree with this post!!! I remember when we (leeds) were relegated from the premiership and people only brought our shit players! Was delighted other teams brought the likes of milner, lennon, viduka (the list goes on) from us; we really had the last laugh with that one hey! It should be apparant by now that I'm being sarcastic and only manage to find this clueless blog laughable but love the time you west ham fans are putting in to analysing leeds ;)

The takeover if it comes is from property developers who want to build houses on Leeds' training ground and commercial property near to the motorway and Elland Road

  19. As a Portsmouth fan I can confirm several of the above posts. Pearce is a rock and learnt a lot over the last few years and will continue to improve. Norris is solid in midfield and always gives 100%. He will also chip in with a goal every 4/5 games...mostly when you need them. Varney I am not so sure about, but if fit will be a good squad player as will Jamie ashdown who is a great shot stopper but won't come out for crosses etc. As the other poster mentioned, we went down due to a number of reasons, going into admin, players not knowing if they were comin or going, points deduction and simply not scoring. Good luck to Leeds this season, if we go under I'll be keeping an eye out for them sniff sniff

  25. im a leeds fan but fuck this takeover to be honest wed probably be be better with bates i can honestly not see how the bahrain royal family despite all their economic turmoil aregoing to buy leeds. people who buy football clubs do it as a purely corporste and financial reason... to make more money they do not have our best interest at heart only theirs. if it was we'd spend every penny on players. but to develop a casino hotel new shop and extra seating my friends thats only exploiting you. football is corrupt from the very tippy top. so for people to be so happy of new owners is ludicrous and ignorant coz you dont know these people or their policy and giving them freeroam to manipulate you as people for profit is 100% more than likely soon well be calling our stadium mcdonalds arena

  26. Hammersfan, I think we have to trust in Warnocks judgement. He's the man with the track record.

I actually believe you don't care for him much and you base a lot of your comments on hoping he's going to fail.

Go down to your local William Hill Office and put your life savings on Leeds not getting promoted next season, or, if you have the balls, will get relegated, as you suggest.

This you will not do , I'm certain, because as you know deep down, Warnock is a winner.

  34. And this week in the wonderful world of Wet Spam. Liverpool reject Andy Caroll becomes increasingly concerned that his rumoured transfer to Spam might not be pure hype. Freightened to death by the prospect of a relegation dog fight at football's forgotten team he puts out a statement saying he wouldn't go- end of! Spam then deny ever making such a cheeky bid! Meanwhile Spam can look forward to another season of howitzer football under Sam. Premier league defences must be really worried by the prospect of coping with such uncultured tactics. Oh, and of the seven new signings made by Spam, how many cost money? How many plied their trade in a successful premier league team. George Mcartney? I rest my case! You do realise how silly you're going to look next season. And finally, how many per-season friendlies have you actually won?

  42. Now and again you come up with comments that are either true or funny, regrettably on this occasion you are neither right nor funny. Norris and if Crainie is signed are squad players not first team, as you should know back up is essential if you wish to succeed; re ex portsmouth players; if your employer was seriously in financial trouble, you weren't getting paid, didn't know what the future might hold ; do you expect us to believe that you would be mentally capable of giving your all to the cause? these players now have a huge point to prove that they are way better than the last season at poor Pompey showed. look to your own club as they are going to need all the help and support they can get how many millions are you in debt now? has it passed the £150 million mark yet? PL money and parachute payments are not going to clear that and you'll still be stuck with Fat Sam's revolutionary tactics of up and unders, coupled with that endearing tactic of kicking owt that moves, ( see under Bolton, Blackburn, Newcastle etc) concentrate on worrying about your tinpot club and leave us to our own super club MOT

'my precious' what an embarrassment your club is.

    Im forever blowing gandelf!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Do you seriously think that west ham are a bigger club than leeds united? this is a serious question, please explain your reasoning, my take on it is the size of a club is plain and simply the size of a clubs fanbase, not what a club has won or what money they have in the bank! leeds have a worldwide fanbase of over a million, i seriously doubt west ham have anywhere near that!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Where do I say West Ham are a bigger club than Leeds 2023? The truth is, Leeds have a massive fan base, but so you should as the only club in the fifth largest city in the country. The problem is, the longer your demise continues, the greater the probability that your fan base will shrink.

Take last season, West Ham had an average gate of 31,079, whilst the average gate at Leeds was just 23,283, behind both Southampton and Derby County.

Now I know Leeds struggled but so did Leicester, and their average gate was just 200 below that of Leeds. A TRULY big club would maintain gates, irrespective of performance on the pitch. Man City were getting bigger gates in the third tier of English football than Leeds mustered in the Championship last season.

In 2001-02 in the Prem, the average attendance for Leeds was 39751, the fifth highest in the division, West Ham's average gate was 31570. So our fan base has remained loyal, despite the drop down the division, whilst the Leeds gate has dropped a frightening 41%! THAT is proof of how far your club has fallen.

Now nobody denies that the gates will swell again should you ever return to the Prem, but what does that say about the quality of your support? Glory hunters perhaps? True fans stick with the club through thick and thin, your mob have deserted in droves! Marching On Together? Yeah 60% of you are, but 40% will only march when you're winning!

So, that's why, at the moment, West Ham are the bigger club. Our paying fan base is larger and our fans are much more loyal. Plus we are in the Premiership, whilst you are rooted in the Championship. Look at revenue generation of the two clubs and West Ham's will be far greater next season, inevitably because we are in the Prem. Look at money spent on transfer fees and West Ham will outspend Leeds, Arab billionaire owners or not.

Yes Leeds have won more trophies, but the past counts for nothing I'm afraid. Leeds have the POTENTIAL to be a huge club, but as Chelsea and Man City have proved, any club has that potential if the right owners buy the club. When we have moved to the Olympic stadium the Arabs might take a fancy to us and then we could leave Leeds miles behind. But that's is all speculation and for now we have to live in the present. And, for the time being at least, as Snodgrass proved, even Norwich are a bigger club than Leeds! That must hurt I know, but facts are facts.

Please don't reply with insults; if you can counter the argument with an intelligent response, I will read with interest and concede if you prove your point.

  51. Leeds time in the 3rd tier mustered a combine average of 25,000! not bad for fans forking out 30 plus quid 4 a ticket!! year after year we top the charts for the best travelling support!! all this with a boycott against a certain ken bates over the period of time of his chairmanship! 38 quid a ticket ! the clubs you mention under the same circumstances would get nowhere near those gates!
