Take note Leeds, Watford, Forest, Wolves, Cardiff and Leicester, six into three doesn't go!

They are getting jolly excited down in the Championship aren't they? With West Ham out of the way and take over money soon to be flying left, right and centre, there's more cocky fools suddenly shouting the odds about their club's promotion chances than you can find on the terraces of White Hart Lane for a home defeat against Arsenal.  The trouble is, six into three really doesn't go.

We kept hearing last season what a tough division the Championship was to get out, but we didn't find it all that difficult, and the other relegated teams Birmingham and Blackpool finished on our coat tails. Wolves, Blackburn and Bolton fans can take heart from that, and of the three, you would have to fancy Wolves and Bolton to be in the running for an immediate return. And Blackpool, of course, should still be in the mix assuming Ollie stays.

All of which makes it a tad more difficult for the take over pretenders who seem to be assuming that the division is there for the taking once the money is in the bank. Yes Leeds fans are excited about the prospect of being rid of Bates, but the recruitments made so far do not suggest a promotion charge even with Warnock at the helm, because player for player, Wolves, Bolton and Cardiff are certainly stronger at present.

Then there are the other pretenders. Leicester were pretty poor last season but the squad is stronger than last season's performances suggest and they should progress. If the Forest take over happens, they could be in the shake up too. I was impressed with them at Upton Park and their performance at Elland Road suggests there may be more to come, even before new recruitments are signed.

Meanwhile, Watford fans are suddenly getting excited about Nani, Zola and their new Pogle's Wood owners. I make Watford very long shots indeed, personally, but who knows, Zola may have found a magic bean since his departure from Upton Park and Pippin like, he may unearth the source of milk and honey.

Charlton could do a Southampton and Blackburn and Birmingham, despite their owners, might have something to say about Leeds walking the division too. It promises to be a very, very interesting season!

  1. fair point, but out of the other teams mentioned i would still prefer to have warnock in charge, even at this early stage.given the tools, he will do the job.

  2. What you fail to mention is west ham kept most of the prem players they had..... So that's why it was easy try doing it after losing all your team in one go

  3. We're did you get your money from to go straight back up

  4. What nonsense! We parted company with Parker, Boa Morte, da Costa, Upson, Bridge, Keane, Spector, Jacobsen, Ba,Dyer, Hines, Stanilas, Gabbidon, Hitzlsperger, Kovac and Obinna. I make that SIXTEEN players!

  5. Reasonable article, although I'm not sure I agree with your statement about your lot finding it easy. I seem to remember much negativity on the Hammers forums when it became apparent that Reading and Southampton were going to bet you to it, something about Sam out?!
    Fairly typical West Ham arrogance.

  6. Hammersfan, now list the players you replaced them with! Wasn't there a little known player called Nolan for one?

    ReplyDelete
  7. What money? O'Brien, Faye, Diop and Demel were all frees. McCartney was on loan as were Bentley and Lansbury. Nolan cost £4m. Taylor just £1.5m. Baldock £2m. Maynard £1.5m and Vaz Te £1.5m We collected £5m from the sale of Parker and £1.5m for da Costa. So we made a net outlay of about £4m. But we saved £8m in wages by getting just Dyer and Parker off our books! Add in all the other wage savings and the parachute payment and we actually paid off debt last season.

  9. Oh well mate, you're screwed now, you've got Mccartney. Anyway we'll have an advantage to help us over the finishing line if bates is completely out of the picture, nigh on 40,000 advantages. Incidentally why are you in posession of those images at the top of the page? You're not all there, are you?

  10. What has this got to do with west ham? Yeah you got promoted last season well done nobody cares

  11. This is about as sensible an article that's been posted on here, even with the familiar West Ham arrogance. some fair points but with the transfer window only officially open a day ago, this article is rendered pretty pointless. Squads may look entirely different in a months time so save your predictions till then I reckon.

  12. As a Watford fan, with Zola in charge, I fear more a relegation battle. To many foreigners coming in to the game, with out understanding English fans. Thanks for nothing

  13. QPR have signed England goalkeeper Robert Green on a two-year deal, the club have announced.
Must hurt, chooses QPR over you! Shame:)

  14. Not sure who's going up from the championship but one thing is safe to say west ham will be relegated from the prem. George McCartney and jussi jaskelainen as signings for the premiership! I'd be worried!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Think you're right 2310.

I don't rate Green and never have so QPR are welcome to him.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Perhaps you should be more concerned at West Ham's impending relegation battle next season then your future Championship rivals the season after.

West Ham did well to scrape through via the play offs but without a major investment in the team I see you as favourites to get relegated again.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 23:11 Do you honestly think that Green left the Hammers because West Ham couldn't match his wage demands? No, wouldn't is more like it. Allardyce never fancied him, mate. He is pants in the commanding his area sense as you'll find our next year when the more agricultural sides are lumping in the long balls. He was a good servant to us but the reality is he was deemed to be surplus to requirements. Not a question of Green choosing anything!

  18. What a load of rubbish

  19. From a West Ham fan.... How did we find it ''easy'' to get out of that division??!!?! Utter rubbish! And we were lucky in the play off final too. You make yourself sound very arrogant in this article just because we have been promoted you look down at other teams with pitty. '' with West Ham out the way''... What you think we were the best team? Think again pal. That's why we came 3rd mate!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Listen lad your only mentioning Leeds because of the hits on line they get..so i guess when they talk about been everyones cup final they are right..you sad old donut.

  21. More shite ! Just can't resist aving a pop at championship clubs ........why dont u ever talk about wet spam and the prem and your challenges in staying up ? .....Your a fcuking wanker and sad as fcuk imo......jog on cock head.

  22. mcHammerfan how can you call anyone arrogant? your cocky arrogance knows no bounds, we just concentrate on our own club, unlike you. Why shouldn't we be excited and confident? We are getting took over by someone who must be loaded to pay bates the silly money he wants. We have the best manager for getting out of this leauge fact! We are about to sign 4 or 5 class players for cash who even you will struggle to slag, a few solid signings kenny, peltier and chambers. And it starts looking ominous. We dont care about bolton wolves or any other club because we have now got the 6m and profits to spend there will be no stopping us, you lot know this thats why all you haters are shitting it and also because WE ARE THE MIGHTY LEEDS UNITED(FILTHY RICH TO) HA HA HA

    ReplyDelete
  23. Watford fans are pretty realistic. Mid table would be fine for us - Udinese wasn't built in a day, and all that...

  25. west ham had money when they were in the premier league and couldnt stay in it,you had money in the championship and you just scraped through it,only thanks to vaz te though..yes you got promoted, but you were quite shit through the season, you were dubbed the draw specialists, especially at home, and everyone knows a good football team have a good ho,e record, something you havent had for the last 3 seasons, and one of them were in the championship, all i can say, leeds will see you next season one way or another..

  26. Just wish the new owners would hurry up and announce themselves and get rid of Bates. Our lass reckons I am cheating on her the number of times I look at my phone to check news now. Incidentally it was news now that led me to your blogs some of which have tickled me. You just love getting a bite from my fellow Leeds fans. I wonder how old you are? my guess you are 40ish and have followed the Irons as long as I have followed Leeds. Bet you can remember when football was for the working class, Man City played at Maine Rd and interactive football only took place on the walk to and from the train station. It is with that in mind I find it ironic that you have a wee gloat about getting promoted. If as I suspect you have followed WHU as long as I have followed Leeds you would have, like me (91-92 apart)seen some shite over the years. You would also be as cynical about your chances of survival in the prem as I am about our chances of getting promoted (takeover or not). Like many my age I struggle to reconcile my love for a game where we are treated as cash cows for dodgy chairman, a game that is run by CEO's of TV companies that expect us to take Garth Crooks seriously as a pundit.Genuinely wish the Happy Hammers well next season but I think your ambition will only stretch to hoping that there will be three teams worse than you, helping you to finish 4th from bottom. By the way I used to love the Johnny Lyall era. Watching him walk to the dug out dressed in a sharp suit and cashmere coat draped over his shoulders flanked by heavies looking every part an Eastend gangster.R&R to all true Hammers fans....you know who you are.

  27. Is that all you/wet spam payed for maynard 1.5m? Ha ha I remembr when they were holding out for 7m two year ago, thought you payed 3or4m for him. I wouldn't mind getting him for us now bates is going, we will have plenty of money and ambition. Latest rumour going round is the Quatari roayl family buying us and want us challenging for top honours by the time they host world cup. Give them more credibility and raise there profile in the football world. just a rumour just hope it doesn't turn out to be them two plonkers who live near you that buy us.... DEL BOY! and RODNEY! :'(

  28. West Ham will find the Premiership even easier to get out of than the Championship.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The game hasn't gone crazy, you have. Make it sound as though you walked the championship, when we all know you didn't. At least your happy, unlike a lot of West Ham fans..Big Sam, don't make me laugh!

  30. Oy, this is a Leeds United website, we aren't interested in Watford, Forest, Wolves, Cardiff and Leicester - leave them to their own flipping sites...

  31. "this article is rendered pretty pointless"

Why on earth do you think the Wet Spammer posted it??

Have you actually read one relevant point on here yet?

If you want to read real articles and news then try a proper website, not this rubbish tip.....

  32. "I don't rate Green and never have so QPR are welcome to him."

Didn't hear any complaints about him last season? So he's good enough for you when nobody else wants him, and then he isn't when you can't aford his wages - ha ha ha.......

  33. From one of your OWN supporters:

"What you think we were the best team? Think again pal. That's why we came 3rd mate!"

And pretty dam lucky to get there, too. Don't get too worried about not settling in the premiership very well, you won't be there long enough to worry about it.....

    ReplyDelete
  34. "your only mentioning Leeds because of the hits on line they get"

You mean this ISN'T an official Leeds United site? Oh my God, how did I not notice that...???

No, it must be, there are just so many Leeds articles here, and the blogger is such an expert on all things Leeds...???

I think he just pretends to be a wet spammer to actually draw their fans onto our site - yes, that it!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. "why dont u ever talk about wet spam and the prem and your challenges in staying up ?"

Oh, come on, give the guy SOME credit, why write an article on something that's never going to happen?

  36. Hi Ya Knob again

Have to say we now know why you are in the hospice in the first place.

Someone posted leeds can get over 40,000 every home game, remind me what are your crowds? As for the bull shit of the new stadium, you couldn't fill it or even half it, sorry you could with the away fans as well.

At the end of the day I understand your not well and most likley was picked on at school so we all feel a little sorry for you.

Keep taking the pills and hopefully the doctors may release one day back in to the general public.

Must be a sad life living a monkey in your cell with all the doctors looking at you all the time

    Hope you get well soon

    ReplyDelete
  37. Quite a few fair points for once. But that doesn't excuse the fact that at the end of the day you're nowt but an arrogant cock-nosed jellied eels, pie and mash wanker. Can't wait to see you back-peddaling next May when WHUFC are heading back to the Championship. Then again this blog will probably be closed by then. MOT!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Seen a few of your blogs and you seem to be more about 'having a go' at other teams and supporters than blogging about your own team? Not a good blog ethic to have but good luck with it!

    ReplyDelete
  39. We did find it pretty easy to get out of the division! As people rightly say, we were pretty crap most of the season and we still got up. Had we played decent football, we would have walked the division but Allardyce chose to pack midfield for home games against the likes of Doncaster, Watford, Bristol City etcetera. When he finally woke up to the fact that we needed to win home games in the last month of the season, we suddenly showed what we were capable of! Shit team, shit tactics, shit performances - still promoted! What's that if not easy exactly?

0639 You clearly did not read this blog last season, nor the season before, nor the season before...I nicknmamed Green England's 666 for a reason!

    ReplyDelete
  40. "0639 You clearly did not read this blog last season, nor the season before, nor the season before...I nicknmamed Green England's 666 for a reason!"

You didn't support Leeds United last season, so no point in reading this blog then.....

... much more interesting now you have swapped your team from a crud wet spam to the mighty Leeds United!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Long odds for Watford eh? Suits me. We were favourites for the drop last seasonn and almost made the play offs.
Imagine what we are capable of now we have some investment in the club, hey we may even end up with four stands!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yeah thanks....my lot have been in this division for most of the last 20 years; i really needed a smug, patronising hammer to teach me lessons about limited promotion places...

    ReplyDelete
  43. What an arrogant hammer you are, getting all high and mighty because you got out of the chanpionship, why are you saying it was easy?? you were so sure of automatic promotion and that didnt happen, and you didnt exatly ease through the playoffs, could easily have been Blackpool, and dont worry you'll be back in the championship soon enough, west ham can never do well in the premier league, always scrapping, oh to be a hammer...

    ReplyDelete
  44. You were average last season, and you spent nigh on 10 million pounds to finish 3rd, yes 3rd in the Championship. Go away and write about West Ham, you are an embarassment.

    ReplyDelete
  45. theres no way that west ham found this league easy!you had 2 better trams than you, southampton and reading, plus you didnt deserve to go up,you couldnt even beet leeds,or reading, and so on...,you will get relegated again

    ReplyDelete
  46. Trying hard to keep the faith ere lads cant help thinking this is another 1of papa smurfs dirty tricks hope im Wrong Mot

    ReplyDelete
  47. Joking aside, irrespective of any takeover I dont think automatic promotion is achievable for Leeds next season. Basically even if we do keep hold of the 3 half decent players we currently have you're virtually creating a new side from scratch with no preseason. Realistically I think it probably will be Wolves, Blackburn and Cardiff in the mix next season. As for us and Forest I think well have to wait another year (assuming West Ham dont invest the millions again in their attempt).

As for Watford I still haven't really forgiven you for breaking my heart back in 2006 but good luck with it all anyway and welcome to the site.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @0852.... Because mate to find it easy to get out of the division we would have been 1st and by by some considerable points difference too!! You make me ashamed! Get your head out your arse and Count ourselves lucky we made it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well they'll be trying to keep it tight at the back(or not, as the case may be) at w,ham next season with all those dildos flying around upton pk next season. God knows what they'll do with all those leftover relay batons if they get the olympic stadium.
