OK, the cricket fight back against South Africa was down to a South African, but that apart, and ignoring the bloody football, tonight is a night when we should feel proud to be British. I'm no fan of West Ham's proposed move to the Olympic Stadium, but after tonight it should be renamed the Theatre of the Sporting Gods based on the efforts of Rutherford, Farah and Jessica Ennis. And all that on top of two more golds in the rowing and another in the cycling. We are third in the medals table - truly incredible!
And best of all is the marvelous sportsmanship on show and the wonderful humility of our champions. Of course fantastic wealth will follow these victories but it is obvious that these heroes are true Olympians, valuing sporting Gold over the gold of Mammon. What a contrast to the likes of Giggs who couldn't even bring himself to sing the anthem!
Rutherford was cocky and glorious. Ennis was brilliant and humble. But Farah topped the lot with a breathtaking break at the bell, daring to win it from the front with a host of brilliant distance runners trailing in his wake. Absolutely awesome!
What a night!
And West Ham are STILL shit.
ReplyDeleteMOT.
Amen.
ReplyDeleteDon't blame you for avoiding football. You've lost more arguments than w,ham have lost pre- season games and that's saying something. As for winning medals in the rowing, big deal. A suitably trained orang utang could do that as well as keep a clean sheet in goal for w,ham v ipswich.
ReplyDeleteYou have made yourself look foolish I'm afraid Mick. This is not a suitable thread for cheap and silly shots. If you are not proud to be British tonight, it is very sad. Every right minded person in this country admires the fantastic efforts of all our medalists - gold, silver and bronze. In fact, the hunger just to make it to an Olympic final, even when there is no chance of winning, demonstrates the fantastic sporting ethic of the Olympics. It isn't just about winning, but about doing your best for your country. Dear God, even Murray has found a patriotic streak!
ReplyDeleteI was not a fan of the London Olympics, regarding it as an absurd waste of money, but have been won around and am happy to hold my hands up and say I was wrong. This is what sport should be about and every time I see an athlete interviewed I am filled with awe and respect. These guys really are super heroes!
Best sporting day of my life.
ReplyDeleteHF, do you really expect Mick to understand your eloquent response? He's probably still trying to work out the hidden dig at Leeds in the origional post and as for Orangutans (no second G, Mick), I'm sure you could train one to write better prose than Mick. As for this habit you have of goading another group of supporters, Spurs, Liverpool, QPR, I find this latest Leeds target of yours the most unengaging with the torrent of distasteful responses most unpleasant and uninteresting.......but hey it's your blog and it seems to be the most successful hit multiplier since the Suarez threads, maybe as a stats man you could provide details of the ratio between hits on Hammers and non-Hammers threads?
ReplyDeleteScotty is right, these guys and girls are amazing, wouldn't go as far as saying heroes but definitely role models and a positive influence on youngsters throughout the country.
ReplyDeleteBut all that to one side, West Ham are STILL shit.
MOT.
Completely agree HF. Amazing achievements so far and everyone should rightly feel proud. Scary thing is it could easily have been better!
ReplyDeleteExpect the world to sit up and take notice over the next four years, trying to pinpoint the reasons for Britain's successes.
awesome performances tonight by our competitors. was proud watching it
ReplyDeleteI certainly was NOT proud of a set of public school boys doing what a trained monkey can do. Bet they all get knighted and i bet you doff your cap and say "gord bless ya guv" if any of them walked past your fruit n veg stall.
ReplyDeleteThe fact you couldn't see the potential for the olympics and this country as a whole shows what limited foresight you have, for a man who spends an inordinate amount of time explaining to all and sundry of your great predictive powers when it comes to sport.
ReplyDeleteI called it on here first...you're a prick.
Absolutely right Hf
ReplyDeleteWell done team GB. Amazing feat yesterday! By the way, Cyprus is going to win its first ever Olympic medal tomorrow (silver for sure and rather unlikely can also turn into Gold) in the Sailing! Which I reckon is going to put Cyprus above Turkey (and Greece) in the Table!.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry that our team is not at all ready to begin its Premiership challenge. For me, Big Sam is the obstacle. He wants to build a new Bolton in East London. He doesn't know any other way. And this is why, the sooner we get rid of him, the better chance we have to stay up and finally start playing footbal the West Ham way.
Travelling hammer,i'll bow to your superior knowledge of all things primate. I do apologise for my one spelling mistake. Not bad a bad ratio though for the amount of comments i've made. I do however think it's a bit sad that you felt you had to take the time and comment on it though. The rest of your comment didn't really say much either. Get a girlfriend you cretin.
ReplyDeleteMick, do you have a life outside of this blog? I know it is addictive because I am such a brilliant blogger but really, is it healthy for you to sit in front of your computer waiting for me to post up comments so you can respond asap? It is a West Ham blog you know!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Cyprus Sav. I will cheer your guy on!
Youre a twat. It's stnuc like you that make this 'class' business such a big issue. It doesn't matter where you're from, it matters where you're going or what you're doing. Just because somebody's had a priveliged upbringing through no fault of their own that justifies you to dislike them for no reason?
ReplyDelete17.46,classy. I see the public school education wasn't wasted on you. You speak with such eloquence. I suggest you immerse yourself in the Paralympics which is truly representative of our so called class system. Granted there have been many heroic feats achieved by British athletes, but if you're going to defend some public school ponces to me. I wouldn't waste your time. Clearly you're a poorly educated fool.Even Colin Moynihan, (of all people) is beginning to see the light. As for hf,are you taking the piss? You're on your computor all day every day, you've gone beyond obsessive. At least i'm only using my phone to either take the piss back or expose idiots(see above).
ReplyDeleteGuys, can we just get back to the cheap insults please?
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with Leeds Mick on this one. It's just a shame that 17.46 didn't go to a public school really. He could do with lessons in spelling and grammer. He already seems to have the odious personality required at such archaic institutions.
ReplyDeleteWhat a ghastly creature you are 17.46. Semi literate also,i notice.
ReplyDeleteNever thought i'd agree with a Leeds fan.spot on mate.
ReplyDeleteLeeds Mick, what a classy charmer you are...... as you say not bad after all the comments you (a Leeds fan) have made on a West Ham blog. The point is when you try to belittle the efforts of dedicated athletes like our GB rowers you at least try to demonstrate your higher level of thinking by spelling properly.......and you think I'm the cretin who needs a girlfriend!
ReplyDeleteHey Hammersfan, I couldn't help but smile. Clarkeonenil, who you describe as the best Leeds blog out there described the 3-1 Leeds win v Preston as a dire performance by Leeds. At the same time the 7 times Championship promoted Coach Neil Warnock said it was a great performance , one which he is proud of.
ReplyDeleteSo that leaves us , as Leeds supporters to decide who we believe, Hammerfan's favorite bloggers or N W ?
Hmmm...looks like you backed another loser to me H F
Mmmm 'odious personality'and 'ghastly creature'....could Kano and 2222 actually be alter egos of the legend that is Leeds Mick, I wonder??
ReplyDeleteLeeds Mick: You sir, are a penis of the highest order. I congratulate you on your Olympian achievement, but it's probably just your public school education.
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise,HF likes the watersports. Bet you're getting bummed by a rower too.
