All Quiet On The East End Front

Rarely has it been so hard to find something to write about West Ham. There are no current transfer rumours, the tactics to be employed in the up coming season are hardly in question, and we still want to move to the Olympic Stadium, but there's no update on our bid.

It's the big kick off on Saturday and somehow the buzz is missing. Is it post Olympics torpor? Or is it a West Ham thing? We know what we are going to get and, like school dinners, we know we are not going to enjoy it very much.

I can't remember feeling so apathetic about the approach of a new season. It doesn't help that I am at Lords on Saturday, although I lost interest in the cricket too during the Olympics and only picked up on the Pietersen texting scandal today.

Perhaps the Olympics has put everything into perspective. Football has lost touch with real sport.

  1. Last paragraph hit it on the head. Whilst the Olympics were on, football well and truly took a back seat and rightly so. I didn't even watch much of the great Britain football team if I'm honest, choosing other sports to support Britain in. Now we are going from watching true sporting heroes and role models in the Olympics, to overpaid, self-glorifying thickos and all the theatrics that come with them. After the Olympics, I have almost changed my stance on west ham, wishing we played the game the right way regardless of the higher chance of relegation. At least I would be more proud of the team. I'm worried about the state of the pedormances this coming season, especially if we lose the first couple

  2. Absolutely Paul. Look at the determination of athletes to make the final, even when they had no chance of winning. They love their sport, not themselves! And their reaction to the closing ceremony was a joy! They were so excited sharing the moment with each other and with the music legends performing in their honour. Can you imagine Rooney, Cole and co in that situation?

  3. You are wrong. Wigan is making all the headlines! Ah, and don't forget Paolo Di Canio! Sam is more concerned about the Olympic Stadium than fixing the team. Unless he gave up because he realised that we are beyond repair!

  7. It was so refreshing, and if I'm honest, the high I got from the whole Olympic experience has surpassed the high I got when we got promoted, and I was at the play-off final! lad from Hemel, gymnast called max Whitlock, won two olympic medals, the whole town was just buzzing! I have more respect for that young lad for achieving that than I have for any current footballer. Hopefully he inspires some youngsters round here, he's certainly inspired me

  10. Thanks HF. But it is nothing compared to what Team GB did. I mean to finish above a huge country like Russia. But it is not only the medals. It is the way the British Olympians conducted themselves, with humility before, during and after the games. Really amazing.

But I maintain that Beckham is more a PR man than a football great. I know most British people just absolutely love him and I respect that, but I can't accept the image he projects for himself because, simply, it is not true. It is a bit like Noble and West Ham, you know. What really matters is what one does on the field not how well he project himself in press conferences and the media.

  11. Well i thought i'd interrupt this mutual admiration society to remind you what a shower of boring tossers you all are. "thanks stani", "cheers hf", "goodnight johnboy". What a bunch of wendys. There is absolutely no point to these posts, they are read by few, written by a moron and serve only to provide entertainment for supporters of other clubs. Butt clenchingly bad. You are making yourself look an even bigger fool hf.

  13. It's not a case of logging in as soon as i can,i was browsing on my way to work as a friend had told me to have a look at some goon who's been having a go at Leeds. Your conversations belong in a pub toilet, where most of you belong also. Why don't you count the hits and comments you get when you attempt football and politics then give yourself a slap and give up? You are NOT a writer or a commentator, you are a semi literate psychotic. Your breakfast habits are of no concern to me or anyone else also.
