Here we go then. Warnock has already blown his top, sensibly trying to distance the club from the actions of one buffoon, but there's bound to be a queue of Mr Indignants all desperate to parade his disgust and all over reacting. Yes the idiot should be found and punished. Yes he should never be allowed into a football stadium ever again. And yes the scum who shielded him and cheered his actions have embarrassed Leeds United Football Club horribly, but that's it.
Any call for points deductions or draconian fines for the club should be dismissed. Leeds United did not assault Kirkland, one moron did. Find that moron and punish him. Identify those who shielded him and cheered him, and ban them from football stadiums for the rest of their lives too. But leave the club alone.
I have no love for Leeds United FC but I do believe in justice.
That said, Warnock was wrong to complain that Kirkland went down "like a ton of bricks" - that is an inappropriate complaint in the circumstances - and to say "our crowd were fantastic but we’ve got one moron and I can’t tolerate that". I saw lots of morons cheering that one moron and accepting him back into the "fold" after the assault. A "fantastic" crowd would have handed this thug over to the police, not protected him and cheered him surely?
Spot on, nice to see even yourself seeing sense on this :)
ReplyDeleteDidn't look like they were cheering him to me. Looked like they were cheering a goal. So in that sense, it was the whole crowd and one moron. I feel embarrassed. I must admit I feared the worst with an article from you, but for the most part you are bang on the money. What you failed to pick up on were Dave Jones comments and how disgusting they were. He let emotions overcome him, when he'd recieved abuse for the obvious 'struggles' of his past. Gets it everywhere he goes. But to claim all Leeds fans were animals and to call for a ban is absurd. I hated the man prior to this evening and my opinion of him can't get much lower.
ReplyDeleteSouth yorkshire police, SWFC and LUFC please find this guy and lock him up.. Oh and if any leeds fan knows him, please break his nose.
I can imagine an arab exodus because of this situation. Time will tell.
MOT on a horrible, horrible night.
well said
ReplyDeleteSpot on
ReplyDeleteto say you hate leeds so much, you obviously like to watch them a hell of a lot dont you? theres more leeds fans end up reading your crappy website than west ham fans! (cos of news now and the fact there are a lot more leeds fans out there than west ham fans, the guy in question is from cheltenham!) do you ever comment on 'the irons' mediocre league form?
ReplyDeleteBar the last paragraph because friends look after friends even if they are idiots and the tonne of bricks comment because im small and soft and been hit alot harder and still stood i actually agree with you here. Your last 2 articles (this and saville) have finally shown some degree of responsible journalism. Do yourself a favour and drop the takeover crap and wind ups and stick to articles like these it shows a level of intelligence you have hidden and offers a good read to leeds or nuetral fans. Well done and thank you. MOT
ReplyDeleteTHis is the first time i have left a comment on this blog as generally i have agreed with most leeds fans that you have only mention our name to get a (often angry) response. However i feel this time you have hit the nail on the head. This person should be banned for life and Warnock was wrong to suggest he went down easily. He must have been absolutly shocked to have been hit from out of nowhere. But i think we know what is going to be coming; various reminders of any problems with leeds fans in the past suggesting that this behavior is endemic amoungst leeds fans. There will also be suggestions from other championship chairman and managers that leeds should be deducted points(obviously caring about the good of the game rather than their own teams postion).
ReplyDeleteWhere was the security, I saw one standing watching and letting him pass and he never made a move for him, some security. You've made sense a few times, this is one of them, keep it up.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time you chat sit but I actually agree with you here
ReplyDeleteOn this occasion i agree with u. Bravo. I totally condemn the scum that ran on the pitch and those that appear to clap him back. But Dave Jones is over the top. Can he not here the chants from their own fans? Hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteDavid Jones didn't seem to think it was one moron, "vile animals" I think was the term he used, "12 years" of abusive chanting, much like the kind of abuse you seem to like to attract here from these very same "vile animals". Must be something in the water up there!
ReplyDeleteA more sensible post from you. Have to agree with what you say. I'm sure most fans will agree with me!
ReplyDeleteI read your blog on occasion and often disagree with your general view points. But, being a Leeds fan, I agree with what you have written tonight. I and the majority of Leeds fans feel ashamed by events tonight. Of 5000 Leeds fans, one chose to act in a manner to shame the name and reputation of Leeds fans and even football fans in general; and those few hundred that supported him are no better.
ReplyDeleteWhen it would be easy for you to criticise , I respect you for writing a fair assessment. Thanks, a football fan!
Fair comment. Sadly, there seems to be a small section of Leeds' worst council estates that really do have shit for brains and can't draw the line between football as proxy for tribal rivalry and actually being violent. Presumably these kids (most are) have parents who are equally feral. Luckily the away games i've been to the atmosphere has been amazing and not at all ugly. Just wait for the lazy cliched 'all leeds fans are scum' press- thanks to one incident in years
ReplyDeleteThank you. we're all in it together, the wind up is what it's all about and keep on doing it.
ReplyDeleteBut that guy, and others like him, they're all absolute gut-wrenching, moronic, sad, imbecilic, pathetic, useless, impotent, toss-pottish, creepy, vile, insular, modern, shite-hawk knobs that I hope we will never have to mention again, but, we know, that's not going to be the case. In which case, together with this one, we need to nail him, and his mates, and make sure that, at least for once, as football fans, we draw that line between, well, football fans and no-marks.
Toast him.
I notice that this post, although sensibly written, makes no reference to the filth chanted by the Wendy's about galatasaray? The guy who slapped Kirkland was a prick plain and simple. But we were well behaved prior to the Turk chants. I firmly believe that was the flash point for the whole incident. Now I I make no attempt to condone what he did, but I wonder had the Sheffield fans not instigated a violent response from us whether the whole incident would have occurred? They got the blood boiling. Not us. I feel that they had a huge influence on what happened, and Dave jones comments were not only unjustified, but naive and childish, he condemned Leeds as a whole, ridiculously, and pretended his fans were innocent. I'll be interested to see what the papers make of it tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThank you, couldn't have expressed it better.
ReplyDeleteWe really do need to focus our attention on the the wrong doers, get them, prosecute them and, if there is any justice, make the vile, no-mark, pathetic, imbecilic, twattiish, numpty, moronic, basal, crappily-dressed, pathetic small penis of a boy spend time clearing, mowing, sweeping, crimping and fertilising every ground that he has ever been to, seen, contemplated, dreamt about, driven by, walked near or sniffed.
What a disgrace, and what a time for supporters to rise up and get these toss-pot people out of our grounds.
I think this article is spot on to be honest. First time for everything!
ReplyDeleteWhat about the Wednesday fans singing about Turkey...
ReplyDeleteWarnock quotes...
Dave Jones, Sheffield Wednesday's manager, was unhappy that I went to clap the Leeds fans afterwards but as I said to him, "We had 5,000 fans there, I was clapping the other 99 per cent". Dave was angry at chants they had directed at him but while there is no excuse for that he doesn't seem to have heard the things the Wednesday fans were singing about me.
The atmosphere was tense from early on when the Wednesday fans started taunting our fans about the murder in Turkey of two Leeds fans a few years ago. I could see they were getting aggravated and I said to the linesman, "Should I go on the pitch and calm them down?" He said, "No Neil, that might only make things worse."
I'm interested to know about who, apart from you in this article, ever mentioned a 'Points deduction" ???
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I doubt the Leeds fans in the stand actually saw what he did, bearing in mind their focus will have been on celebrating with the players.. Maybe the other pricks who went onto the pitch will have seen it and they should be banned without doubt.. By the way this "fan" is from Cheltenham and had already had 3 banning orders, I think that a bit of jail time and leeroy bumming him senseless every night is the only solution.
ReplyDeleteGood on you for not jumping on the "ban Leeds from football forever" bandwagon though.
Sensible points.
ReplyDeleteToo many people in football let their mouths run away with them!
That said i thought matches of this type were "Locked Down" security wise?
This was clearly a security breach.
thanks for this HF. yes, there already has been plenty of hysterical over-reaction, not least from the tortured soul that is the current Wednesday manager. All leeds fans are "vile animals" and should be banned from away games? Not because one brain-dead t#sser assaulted the goalie - and will end up in jail and be banned for life and quite rightly - but because after 12 years he still can't cope with chants about his alleged past behaviour.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that there is no doubt that there are some elements of our support who seem to leave any sense of self-respect at the turnstiles when they follow the team. Not that its much different for any other seriously well supported football team but leeds fans do have an unfortunate and well-publicised track record of going well and truly over the top.
The 'ton of bricks' quote from NW wasn't the best thing to come out with straight away after - but he was right though. Kirkland did go down as though he had been shot. More like shock - he's alright but our supports reputation has taken another big hit; or enhancement as some will sadly see it.
Good article. Things were said by both managers in the heat of the moment. 90% of our supporters are great but the 10% of morons let us down.
ReplyDeleteI know it's no excuse but maybe that Sheffield Wednesday thug who floored two of our players in the first half, without punishment, and with deft one - two elbow and punches, made one or two of our ( how shall I put this?) fans with lower intelligence think it is ok to go around assaulting people on the pitch. Again - no excuse for any human being to attack a keeper like that. His mum and dad must be so proud!
The police will already know who he is and who helped him. Ban them all for life and get the scum out of our club for good!
Friday night West v South yorkshire derby wasnt really thought out. But then Sky money talks! There was turkish chants, smoke bomb and missiles thrown at Leeds which does not condon the thug who attacked Kirkland, but it goes a long way towards understanding the mentality of a small few. Dave Jones didnt like the paedo chants so had a bee in his bonnet when he made the idiotic call for an away ban.
ReplyDeleteHave leeds got a football club..............COYI!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd u av a small penis .......on your.fcuking head.
