Hideous Details Emerging On Night of Shame for Leeds United

It seems I may have jumped in too early when responding to the events at Hillsborough last night. I only saw limited coverage on the television and did not understand the full background to events.

If reports now appearing on the net are true, we are not talking about the actions of one moron as I thought. Time and again, I have been subjected to foul "paedo" jibes on here from idiots who think that child abuse is a joking matter, and it seems the same barbs were being directed at Dave Jones last night, whilst some idiotic Leeds fans were actively associating the club with Jimmy Savile and chanting support for a man who, although not proved guilty, certainly does not have the whiff of innocence about him.

In addition, seats were apparently torn up and hurled onto the pitch whilst Kirkland was being treated.

Now again, I would not use any of this to condemn the club. After the infamous League Cup game with Millwall, I called upon West Ham to resign our place from the competition. That seemed the only way of truly showing the club's disgust at the appalling behaviour of a sizable section of the crowd. Leeds cannot resign from the Championship - that would be an absurd suggestion - and any call for a points deduction should be resisted in my opinion.

However, the comments and actions of Neil Warnock after the game do need investigation and should, in my opinion, trigger action if the reports are true. Old Big Gob doesn't seem to get it. Speaking about Dave Jones' reaction, he sounds like a five year old when he says, "he doesn't seem to have heard the things the Wednesday fans were singing about me".

Who cares? That does not excuse the abuse directed at Dave Jones does it? NOTHING excuses false charges of paedophilia against a father and husband and Jones is right, in my opinion, to call the morons chanting this "vile animals". In fact, the game should have been stopped and the Leeds section of the ground cleared in response, especially in the light of the Savile revelations because statistically, there is a strong probability that somebody in the stadium would have suffered abuse. Should a victim of such a foul crime be exposed to mocking chants, turning a hideous personal trauma into playground teasing? I don't think so. Just as racist chants are unacceptable, so this sort of abuse should be absolutely anathema.

Then there is the problem with Warnock clapping the away fans and talking about the action of one moron. It was that one moron who chanted the foul abuse at Jones was it? It was one foul moron who sang support for Jimmy Savile was it? It was one foul moron who regenerated several times in the space of a couple of minutes and invaded the pitch was it? It was one foul moron who cheered himself and hid himself after the assault on Kirkland was it? And it was one foul moron who tore up the seats and hurled them onto the pitch was it?

This is not to say Wednesday fans are blameless. Their taunts about the death of Leeds fans in Turkey were equally disgraceful. But when is the game going to get a grip of this? There were children in the stadium witnessing this disgraceful behaviour of adults. What about our duty of care to them?

Forget individual action against Leeds, it is not the club's fault. But I would like to see action taken on foul abuse by sections of the crowd. If heard, that section of the ground should be cleared before the game proceeds. And until it is cleared, the players should leave the pitch, with a punishment of a 10 point deduction if there is any delay in the fans leaving the stadium. Only then will we end this terrible blight on the game.

And Warnock should also be brought to book for applauding the crowd after the game. That was stupid, reckless and irresponsible. He should have been unequivocal in condemning the chants about Jones, the support for Savile, the assault, the chair throwing and the protection afforded to the thug by other sections of the crowd.

Another big question now is how GFH /GFC will react to this night of shame. What sort of bank would want to be associated with those scenes and with a manager who seeks to make excuses rather than offering an outright condemnation?

  2. As a Leeds supporter I was disgusted with last night trouble and people like that should be banned for life

  3. I think we need a bit of perspective here. If you discount the actions of one mindless Southern idiot who will be punished accordingly the real villain here is Dave Jones (and a stupid one at that). Where most have chosen to hate this great club out of jealousy and fact it harboured the greatest footballing talent the country had ever seen he despises LUFC and everything associated with it on the strength of a few harmless chants from a couple of numpties.

I seem to remember similar comments after the Cardiff game back in 06/07 harping on about peado chants and how they didn't affect him (they clearly did, I mean I thought he was going to cry at one point last night) whilst completely discrediting Istanbul chants from a greater proportion of Cardiff fans.

Is it acceptable to have to listen to chants about twisted versions of events in a footballing environment? Possibly, some would even call this banter. Is it acceptable to have to listen to chants about the deaths of 2 innocent people and the families they left behind? What a ridiculous question.

    Dave Jones you disgust me.

  5. Much of what you write is spot on, but parts of it seem a bit harsh. Please remember that this is ONE fan, the chanting you will not stop, clearing grounds until they stopped would cause far more trouble as it would be indescriminate, as would be the 10 points deduction. This will give the Leeds hating media the chance to voice their hatred of all things Leeds. I fail to see the connection you've made to racism and child abuse from one idiot slapping Kirkland, it seems like you, and others, want to 'pad out' and justify your own hatred for Leeds. This was ONE fan, and to call all Leeds fans 'vile' etc, is that not a form of 'racism'? Kirkland DID drop like a 'ton of bricks' but Warnock should not have stated to obvious on live TV. Good piece though and, as I said, agree with most of it.

  7. Unnecessary article in my opinion. Should have stuck with the original. Hear say and rumor becoming gospel. Neil Warnock was a bit, shall we say, non-pc with his views and actions. I hate this mornings views on News Now. Dave Jones calls for ban after attack etc. No. Dave Jones calls for ban after getting stick. Neil Warnock was getting abuse throughout and you could hear it through the sky mic. The fact of the matter is he was once accused of doing the nasty publicly, and got sacked from his post at Southampton as a result. It was a stupid decision to broadcast a game like this on a Friday night, should have been a midday kick off.

Thanks for including my comment from the previous thread in your last paragraph. Bates will look to a reason to destroy the take over - like he did with the supposed 'investment' last season after ~2000 demonstrated outside the ground.

In terms of the chanting et al, it was 6 of one I'm afraid. SWFC can't be the innocents.

If that effing prat didn't attack Kirkland then none of the others would be mentioned at all.

If the tweets etc are true of this mans identity, then why was he allowed in given his bans? Stewards, police and ticket sellers must be held accountable to a degree for this.

If a points deduction or any punishment is levied onto the club then the FA are a disgrace - would really sum up the broad national hatred of the club over all rational thought. I am proud that the club moved so rapidly to distance itself from the individual.

  9. Don't tar all Leeds fans with the same brush, I for one think what occurred last night was shocking. The match was dirty enough I could see it boiling over but that silly little prick had no reason to do what he did.

  12. Isn't there a film about how well behaved hammers fans are

Green Street and then to make matters worse they made a sequel

Before you write bloggs you really need to look at your own house

  13. The moron that attacked chris kirkland should be given jail time. The seat throwing and chanting from the leeds end a disgrace. To praise the actions of jimmy saville is horrendous. The chants towards dave jones out of order the blokes innocent. Now lets get this in perspective.Dave jones will get up thie morning feeling sorry for his self, venting his feelings on the wife, and then mope about the house all day.The two leeds fans killed by the turkish pigs are rotting away in the ground no moping about the house for them. There friend's and relative's still hurting, greiving over there loss. These are the turkish pigs who the sheff wed fans were applauding last nite.Who are the animal's now dave jones

  14. So a mindless hooligan who had been banned from away games for 5 years was able to initiate the pitch, assault the opposing goalkeeper and stroll casually back to his seat before ripping it out and throwing it towards the stewards?

Yet more embarrassment for Sheffield Wednesday and the South Yorkshire Police Force then.

  15. I can tell you now that Leeds, because of who they are, will be punished by the FA far more severely than the Serbian FA will by FIFA. Its just the way it is

  16. It is a bit unfair to tarnish us all with the same brush and if I had been at the match and I was near him, I would have smacked the knobhead myself, Leeds or not, and would have thrown him back on to the pitch and left him for to the coppers to deal with. The actions of one arsehole as made us newsworthy for all the wrong reasons. I hope he gets 12 months and banned for life from every football ground in the UK.

  17. Dave jones deserved every bit of abuse he recieved the man is a horrible human being who should be put down and so should you for writing more garbage about my club

  18. Ha 'after the infamous league cup game with Millwall, I called upon West Ham to resign our place from the competition'.

Who the hell do you think you are exactly? Even the handful of your own fans that visit this site can't stand you so why would the whole of the mighty 'West Ham' listen to you?

  19. **** off, he will be sent to prison leeds fans will be on close watch, get over it. good result for west ham today think about that mate not leeds!

  20. Stick to your own club you arse wipe!

  21. Not happy with what happened, but chanting about Jimmy Savile is actually kind of hilarious. It's so brilliantly calculated to offend.

  22. The trouble is hf,this one scumbag has given people like you the excuse to feel "holier than thou". You don't seem to remember w,ham singing "sit down you paedophile" to Arsene Wenger. You should also remember that you've spent the past 8 months insulting and inciting Leeds supporters amongst others for the simple reason you don't like warnock. We know why that is don't we? Time to look in the mirror. No matter how vile the insults directed at you have been,it's self inflicted i'm afraid.

  23. So many contradictions...'Night of Shame for Leeds United' in the headline and 'its not Leeds fault' throughout the article

I believe Hammersfan must take some blame with his Jimmy Savile article deliberately written to cause trouble...This is what stirred up a lot of this tension...shame on you sir
