West Ham 4 Southampton 1 - Noble Pokes Critics In Eye!

Mark Noble celebrates
OK, so the result apparently flattered us a little, and Southampton were very poor, but who cares? This was another three crucial points, and the boost to our goal difference is very welcome too. Fourteen points banked already, and we are still in October! And level on points with fourth place Everton also makes for happy reading - although, sensibly, all West Ham fans should pray for an Everton victory over QPR!

We should not get carried away just yet, however. The fixtures have been kind to us so far and, in truth, we are 4 points behind par at the moment after the defeats against Swansea and Arsenal and the home draw against a very average Sunderland team. But even the Manchester clubs drop points when they are expected to win or draw, so to complain about our return thus far would be churlish in the extreme.

Bigger challenges lay ahead, but 14 points from 8 games is an excellent return, irrespective of the teams played. At this rate, Southampton will struggle to reach 14 by Christmas. And now Adkins has questions to answer after the perverse decision to start Rodrigues ahead of Lambert. In the summer I said the former Burnley man was an absurd  £7.5m gamble and so it is proving.

  1. With our second half performance we beat ourselfs. You will not be presented with two softer goals in the rest of the season.
The first half you seldom got in our half and you saw little of the ball. It all changed when in the second half Andy Carrol only had to feel the slightest touch to dive to the ground. For such a big lad he dont seem very strong. Iknow the ref gets blamed for everything but he was swayed by your crowd in the second half. You will never win 4-1 again this season playing like that. WE CANT DEFEND FOR 90 MINUTES ,SIMPLE.

  2. Oh HF since when have you ever missed a chance to be "churlish in the extreme" you're slipping or perhaps it's just old age, your testosterone levels must be dropping through the floor.

  3. I haven't watched the match HF, so I can't comment. But many others had a very good game I hear, like Benayoun, Nolan, Maiga and of course Caroll (alhough he din't score).

But as you say, today was about how Southampton's defence is rather than how good we are in attack. Everyone is scoring 3-4 goals against the Saints it seems!

  4. HF you need to include yourself as a noble critic (for free kicks). Either way, noble showed unreal, unnoble-like skills. Either way its great to see the present and future west ham play well

  7. @ 21.12 Just one word: Specsavers!

Carroll diving? You are funny my ol' cockah! Just like your thuggery based defensive tactics. I'm glad you lost and lost big as a little reminder that between Schneiderlein et al and last years pathetic display by Billy Sharpe you don't have it in your locker to beat us fairly. We were poor in the first half, granted, but a woeful West Ham still proved your match though eh!

I can't stand to see cheats prosper - making Saturdays viewing all the sweeter.....

    COYI

Looks like Rodriguez'll be off up to Burnley again next season along with the rest of that sorry bunch of hoodies you laughably see as your team. LMFAO

  8. Fair comment - the fixtures have been kind to us..I'm a little nervous about Wigan today, a win would be sterling, we need to be more consistent just to remain mid-table really
