Leeds Fans Green With Envy As West Ham Close In On The Olympic Stadium

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. It seems Leeds fans are getting decidedly uppity about West Ham securing the Olympic Stadium at a cost to the club of just fifteen million pounds. Dear God, that's three million less than Leeds paid for Robbie Keane en route to bankruptcy or two and a bit Seth Johnsons if we are talking really silly money!

The esteemed Leeds blog "The Scratching Shed" goes off on one, moaning that the public purse was not opened to help Leeds repurchase Elland Road, whining "Who needs billionaire owners when you can have government handouts instead." Of course, it's a bit rich when northerners start complaining about government handouts because the good people down south have been subsidising the north for as long as anybody can remember.

The author admits, "I know this comes across as an incredibly bitter rant from a frustrated football supporter, and that’s mostly because it is" before complaining,  "But sport is supposed to reward success. No disrespect to West Ham but the reason they don’t play in a world class stadium is because they’re not a world class team. That’s how it should be." What he forgets, of course, is that England only won the World Cup courtesy of Moore, Hurst and Peters. I reckon the nation has been in debt to West Ham ever since, and the Olympic Stadium is fair redress.

He then has the audacity to argue, "Like it or not, most of the teams who do play in world class stadiums – Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool – achieved success the right way. They didn’t get government hand-outs, nor did a multi-billionaire buy their success. They achieved success, reaped the rewards and built their stadiums with the proceeds. Forgive me for thinking that’s how football should work." But didn't Leeds try to buy success, bankrupting themselves in the process and cheating the taxpayer and other creditors out of money when signing off as one Leeds United and signing back on as another? And is selling your soul to Shaton a fair way of trying to secure a return to the Premiership?

Of course, Leeds fans, like those of Tottenham, are shitting themselves at the thought of West Ham joining the elite club at the top end of the Prem. First it was Chelsea  gatecrashing the megabucks party, then Man City - and when the next genuinely stinking rich Arab or Russian comes along, which club are they going to fancy? A tin pot club up north with a glorious past or the team that plays its home games in The Olympic Stadium with a glorious future?

Scratching Shed? Leeds fans are coming out in hives as we speak!

  9. Get your facts right, Dr. Weevil - it was about £11m for Keane, we spent £18m on Rio (and got £31m - don't think you had a sell-on clause).

Factual errors aside, it's the usual desperate stretch for wittiness, falling well short, again as usual.

  10. Sh1tting ourselves? Maybe with laughter. West Who? Once again another non story where Leeds have been dragged in
From what I see most of your blogs include Leeds presumably because you don't have enough fans to read your non-blog from your own club.

You are on the same level as an internet troll, only making these reports to get a reaction from others.

Did you get a bit upset with a Leeds blogger having a go at your team?

Wow, I really love your well crafted end to the piece..."hives.....scratching"...hahaha brilliant.....
needless to say Mr Partridge, you had the last laugh

  13. I cannot think of a club that deserves a great big white elephant more than the Hammers. I'm sur ethe atmosphere in a quarterfull distant from the pitch by a running track will be electric. if you are lucky you might get a trip to Elland Road before you yo-yo back to where you came from.

  17. So what if you play in the olympic stadium..... You don't exactly have a crop of players with the quality that should be playing there home games in that great stadium. And how the 5th smallest club in london has got it over spurs an actual great attacking team that is going places much faster than your clubs shite hoof and run approach to football i will never understand. And anyway even though we haven't been in the prem for a decade and your team has yo yo'd up n down.... Who was the last one to make it into the champions leauge.... Win the english title, ah yes that would be leeds united . So why don't you stop writting these shit articles about a team that has nowt to do with you . See you in the prem next season fuckface.... Mighty whites are on the charge . M.O.T

  18. You are blatantly deluded if you think West Ham will become a top club simply because of the stadium. West Ham had their day in the sunshine, with their World Cup heroes, but you can only dine out on past success for so long. Many proper football fans barely give the national team more than a passing glance - their club is the be all and end all.

West Ham are a nothing team, all history and no present and no future. Games at the Olympic Stadium will be laughable - a half-full stadium with no atmosphere and the fans far away and disconnected from the play. You can keep it.

  19. boring Leeds story again...

  20. You cant even fill your stadium now so what makes you think your gonna fill the olympic stadium you prick!

    ReplyDelete
  21. So now you're gloating about the more than likely aquisition of the olympic stadium, the same stadium you stated you were against west ham owning, the stadium you will never visit and stadium your team will never fill. Also statements England has been in debt to west ham for the world cup and Southerners have been subsidising the Northerners since as long as you can remember goes to show just wot a jumped up pius prick you are.

Envious of west ham ....my arse!

  22. Kevin in Manchester writes

Now steady on HF the South have not been subsidising the North: The wealth of the pasty southern money men was built on the sweat of the hard work of the northern working class; left to the South there would have been no industrial revolution. If there is one theme that runs right through English history it is that the south has freely plundered the north, and the other regions, to grow fat on the back of others labour - basic Marxism really. Agree with everythng else though!

  23. you got lucky with Geography..that's it

No great reflection on WH as a team
you won it by default and your friends in high places.ie. Trevor knobsucker

The same friends that saved your bacon over the Tevez affair...
any other club would have been dropped 3 divisions...not given money as a punishment...

look forward to seeing you rattle about in the stadium, pity it came second to a plant factory in the recent architectural awards...haha

The only medal ceremonies ever to be seen in the history of the stadium will be to Yorkshire Athletes!, maybe we can get Jess Ennis to nip down and show you what talent it...

Why cant you just enjoy doing well in the prem and a new stadium. What do you get out of having a go?

One of these days you will be in a bar...and you will be spouting off to your student chums, and you will get lynched by some Leeds fans
I hope they jump on your head

  27. Well you obviously haven't done your financial homework; 15 mill upfront is correct, however your failing (in your usual characteristic way)to mention the yearly rent of currently 3.2 mill (fixed till 2017 then who knows?)business rates, cost of policing, cleaning and maintaining environmental standards around the park (not just the stadium),The fact you will never own the stadium its on a 99yr lease with no rental guarantee. So unless you gain a high premier ranking giving a sufficient gate and TV income you will end up unable to meet the high ongoing costs. Then consequently end up in liquidation.

  39. Interesting you pick out just three members of the England 1966 squad, simply because the were Hammers players. There were many other key players in that side, for example a certain Jack Charlton of Leeds Utd. It's a bit disrespectful to ignore them.... but not as disrespectful as claiming the South has subsidised the North for years. I think you will find that it was the in North that the industrial revolution, to which our country's global status is almost wholly attributable, was built, London merely 'handling the cash' like a bank teller. Anyway, good luck filling that stadium. Hope you don't mind the echoes.

  84. I am a west ham fan and I just want to say that the plonk that writes this blog has nothing to do with any of us!

By so many of you replying to his uneducated posts you really are just proving to be on the same level as his.

I have a number of good friends that are Leeds fans and I hope you do end up back in the premierleague, you belong there the same as west ham...

There are a lot of die hard fans that don't want to leave Upton park but if we really are going to move forward then the Olympic stadium is our chance.

We won't be miles from the pitch as retractable seating will be installed to take us right up to the pitch edge and with the excellent transport links we will easily fill 60,000.

And as for it being a 450 million pound hand out that is just a joke. The reason we have been given the ground is because our business plan is the only one that will allow the Olympic legacy to live on as well as paying money back into the governments pockets.

And as much as I hate the guy that writes this blog by all the posts that I read above from Leeds fans it is proof that, whether you admit it or not, you are jealous of the future that could be in store for west ham.

Hope we will be playing you back in the prem soon....

By that reckoning I'd say Leeds are the 6th biggest club in the North of England.

Anyhow, loving the vitriol from Leeds fans with small dicks. 'My club is bigger than yours'. Oh dear. But you're wrong anyway.

As the original article infers, Leeeds are a club with a glorious past but one which has realised it's potential. WHU are a club with a great history and tradition but one which has yet to realise it's potential. The potential is indeed a glorious future.

    Peace.
