Allardyce Wakes Up At Last!

Dear God, it has dawned on Allardyce all of a sudden that we need defenders! Most of us have been saying all season that we have sub standard full backs and need cover for the centre back positions, but it's taken until mid January and a 3-0 thumping at Sunderland for Allardyce to Dot Cotton on.

Allardyce is bemoaning the injury situation but what does he expect? Demel, McCartney, Collins and O'Brien hardly have a good track record in that department do they? All of them have had extended spells out of the game over their careers and Demel, in particular, appears to need months of recovery time whenever he picks up a knock or a pull.

The trouble is, clubs now know we are desperate and anybody we do bring in is likely to be a panic signing and grossly overpriced. But we need to act and act fast. The clubs at the bottom are closing on us and we are not out of a relegation dog fight yet. Remember, we were too good to go down the last time Joe Cole played in the team!

Okay, relegation sounds kinda cynical :P - but I hope we sign Olsson to sort out this left-back issue we have!

We are not going to get relegated!! Will never happen with Sam in charge if you ask me. Whenever we have been relegated we have had awful managers - ie. Roeder and Grant.

As for being had over a barrel for defenders I know exactly what you mean, we will probably go for loans or players coming to the end of their contracts, such as Danny Simpson, Distin or Gallas.

At least Demel was once a footballer; the others you mention are merely total mediocrities. Collins in particular was made to look like the useless player he really is, yet some have him as a hero because he 'gets in teh way' of shots. That's just not enough. As for McCartney and O Brien, they aren't PL standard at all - both are at least 5 years past their 'sell-by' date.

I expect this team, with SA's antiquated and very obvious 'game plan' to be much nearer relegation over the next few months.

The owners have to spend money to keep up, but they won't. They simply don't have the ability to run a club at this level - they are really small time dirty picture sellers. No class, and can only flog to a captive audience - which on reflection does make them perfect for WHU.

Weren't you warned about McCartney by my good self and the other good folk from Leeds? Infact you were warned when he signed, fair enough the warnings were in the form of ridicule and uncontrolled laughter, but with your influence in the west ham boardroom you could've pull strings. After all the management hang on your every word. Don't they?

danny simpson rb out of contract in 6 month, 5th choice behind debouchy, santon, ryan taylor and james perch (not sure why the toon are stock piling right backs but its something we can take advantage of, and olsson plays for a struggling championship team, both improvements on what we have, fit, pacey decent defenders, could get the pair for around 4m, maybe a cb on loan

No, please, NOT Gallas ! Greedy and on his last life support tube. Distin ? Too old. Danny Simpson ? Not even a regular with the barcodes. I've mentioned here over and over again the number of good defenders available outside of the insula Britannica. If carefully chosen, they come out very good signings. And they don't have to be necessarily Africans. Look in the Spanish, Italian (both have enormous treasury problems and need to let go players fast) or even French leagues. And what about Belgium ? Several good players there that would be delighted to come.

And for next season, we need a better goalkeeper. Everyone blamed Potts for the second goal but 1-He was there, the others weren't 2-Jussi showed a terrible lack of leadership on that phase. He should have commanded in his area and taken the initiave of grabbing the ball (which is what Potts was waiting for). First goal was hard to stop, but that is where a better goalie steps in and does the save....

Nasty rumour that Upson could darken our squad again!

Did that bloke in the helicopter manage to retrieve that west ham clearance from the top of that building? Those balls don't come cheap for a club thats skint.
