Allardyce Seeking Early Exit From Cup

So, faced with an uphill struggle to avoid relegation - confirmed by our truly inept performance at Swansea - Allardyce has decided to concentrate on the league before we've even kicked a ball in the Capital One Cup. Great!

He's not quite worded it like that of course. The positive spin has it that we are trying to generate competition for places by playing the stiffs against Crewe but we know that there's no point in crap competing with crap for a place in the side. Unless we recruit a left back at the very least, we are more than likely going down. You can probably add to that a keeper after Jussi's showing at Swansea - age catches up with us all - a right back, a centre back, a creative midfielder and a goal scorer. Half a bloody team in other words!

I have always hated the defeatist attitude of concentrating on the league. We start the season with three competitions to win, the two cups and avoiding relegation, and reducing the target to one does nobody any good. A thumping win over Crewe would breed confidence, an embarrassing exit will increase the doubts about the squad Allardyce has assembled.

In fact, if we lose, Allardyce should be shown the bloody door!

  3. hf i dont think bfs would go out of his way to lose the crewe game but today i was looking at our squad and we really are light on numbers i think i counted we have just under 20 senior players i know weve got a lot of untried younger players hall potts etc but give bfs a few injuries and to quote redknapp we will be down to the bare bones re the positions youve mentioned i agree but when bfs says that jarvises signing will be the last in this window i can see us in real shit and panic buying in january and its a shame cos i think with our best 11 we could hold our own but we need numbers even loan signings

  4. I cannot believe you just said Allardyce should be shown the door if we lose. He has done a brilliant job at West Ham. He will easily keep us up and he will do it comfortably.

Every Prem team that gets a League 1 team in this cup will play a weakened team. Anyway when you consider the likes of Maiga, Diarra, Henderson will get chanes it seems like a good idea to rotate heavily for this game. Plus if the likes of Maynard get a chance then they have a chance to impress and maybe earn a Prem game.

1 defeat does not equal a relegation battle. We are West Ham, even when we have a good PL season we still get a few thumpings in a season.

First half I was quite impressed with our performance. 2 mistakes girted them the win and you could see that deflated the players in the second half but I still think there were positives to take away from the game.

Jarvis (Officialy the Premier Leagus best crosser of the ball with 55 successful crosses last season) looks tastey if we can get him on the ball when he has a bit of space rather than delaying passes till he has a man on him.

Nolan looked lively and Winston Reid continues to improved rapidly and continues to impress me after a bad first season. What a player hes turning in to, and I think we will see that he is better than Tomkins this season.

Start looking for the positives instead of being all doom and gloom.

P.S. Im a WHU season ticket holder for 10 years now and a firm supporter of Sam Allardyce. "We're West Ham United, we'll play how we like."

  5. Gifting Swansea with 2 goals was always going to give us huge mountain to climb. Had we been a bit more fortunate before Jussi's error we could have been leading. However BFS's demeanour following the second mistake hardly inspired the team and his 2 henchmen looked similarly incapable of providing any inspiration. The League Cup should provide a welcome distraction but an early exit to lesser opposition will drive us into the doldrums. A good cup result v Crewe will pep everyone up. Both Jussi and Collins must play tomorrow though and put the demons to rest..

  6. How can you differentiate between the stiffs who played at swansea and the stiffs who are playing against crewe? They all look shite to me.

  7. Blah, Blah, Blah!

    what you really mean is:-

Shi£&@ng myself. If we get dumped by Crewe who, worryingly, are known for playing football, I'm going to look a right plonker in front of those Leeds fans I'm trying to wind up.

Does BFS not know that this is my life he is messing with. FFS I'm going to have to up the ante by pretending I'm somewhere exotic like mmmmmmmm Copenhagen. Yes that'll show those Yorkshire puddings. I'll be in Copenhagan, wonderful, wonderful Copenhagan being all important and all well travelled and everything. That'll showem - silly northerners they'll not even know where Copenhagan is the uneducated fools. What a 24 hours that will be and what's more when we do get thumped I can pretend I've got a life!

  9. UWS - Are we West Ham United under Allardyce and do we play how we like? The West Ham "team" at Swansea had little or nothing to do with the West Ham I was raised to love. Yes we used to get thumped in the past but the compensation was that we were trying to play football the right way. I think we created one chance from open play on Saturday and our football was dire.

  10. UWS - the first time I thought it was finger trouble, the second I knew it was just plain ignorance. For future reference the word is "tasty" there is no "e"

  11. @Hammersfan , What I meam is that this philosophy that West Ham have to play good football is crap. Yes we are used to more attractive football but under Big Sam we still do knock the ball arround most of the time. If Big Sam thinks it will be better for us to go over the top because we have more aerial presence than the oppositiion then thats what we should do.

We'll play how we want, we'll play to our strengths. If we knock the ball over the top all season and finsih in the top 10 noone will be criticising his style of play. It makes sense to play to a teams strength and in our case that is physical aerial football but we still do knock the ball arround, look at the first half in Swansea, there was only a few big balls over the top.

  12. Once again showing how much of an idiot you are.

I imagine every single premier league club and probably many Championship Clubs too will be playing a different team from Saturday. Why? Because clubs have squads these days and not just a starting 11.

Maiga and Diarra were purchased as first team players and tonight presents an excellent opportunity to give them a chance to play for the club alongside their new team mates with the opposition being slightly easier than we will be facing every week in the premier league.

This also represents a chance to give some rotation players a chance to bring them up to match fitness or keep them fresh.

If you think Allardyce is putting out a team to lose today (regardless of what the actual result is) then you are even more of a moron than your blog has suggested over the past few years.

Allardyce is right in thinking that even an apparent under-strength West Ham team should have enough to see off Crewe (no disrespect) and he's not playing the reserve team, he's playing players who are at the club to play for the first team or cover for the first team so they are considered good enough.

At least when you're writing about Leeds we don't have to put up with the shit you write about (apparently) your own club!

  13. I agree with you HF ,strange lineup for tonight. This is an opportunity to turn things around after Saturdays defeat ,to build confidence with a morale boosting victory, but he is taking a big risk putting all these reserve and fringe players out.Like you say, ALLARDYCE has only one aim this season it seems, but he's asking for trouble if we lose or fail to perform tonight.

  14. HF, to your credit I can see why you removed the first comment from UWS. What an absolutely deluded fool! Either a Leeds fan in poor disguise or someone who should clearly be locked up. I love the bit "we're WHU, we'll play how we like" - but you're clearly not playing how you like tit! You're playing the way 1 person likes and that person doesn't seem to be liked by anyone else connected with WHU. Correct me if I'm wrong by all means - I certainly don't follow what's going on down there but that seems to be the perception.

  15. Looks like you were totally wrong again, what a surprise.....

....still even 2-0 at home against the likes of Crawley is pretty pathetic for such a 'magnificent' premiership team?

Maybe you should concentrate on winning a cup, bcause sure as hell you ain't gonna win no league title or get into Europe (ha ha ha ha ha) any other way...........
