Warnock Throws In the Towel at Leeds

Oh dear. I don't think I've ever heard a football manager sound so depressed in public. Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Old Big Gob bares his soul and effectively gives up on all hope of promotion this season.

It is a sad and telling cry of despair. Love him or hate him, Warnock is a passionate man and it is this passion that enabled him to achieve success with mediocre players motivated to run through brick walls for their Drill Sergeant.  But take away that passion, or convert that passion to negative energy, and what have you got. Manic depression.

Leeds are not yet out of the promotion race, no matter what Warnock thinks. A top two berth remains possible - just - but a finish in the top 6 is far from out of the question. A good run of results, especially against teams currently in the play off places, could see Leeds charge up the table. But are they going to do that with Warnock saying things like, “We’ve got top teams to play so we could be a lot nearer the bottom in four weeks’ time" or "“I don’t think I’m thick and if you look at the league table, I don’t think we should be talking about promotion at the moment – which is what I came for” or "When you’re like this as a club, as we were at QPR, you’re very much stagnated" or  "I get frustrated because if I was 10 years younger then there’s always tomorrow. But I want to do it today. It’s looking very much like that’s not going to be possible and it’s a disappointment."

We can all understand Neil's frustration, but are his words wise? How are they going to help motivate his players?

Warnock goes on to predict that even the loan window will be closed by the time the GFH Capital takeover happens - if it happens at all! Warnock certainly isn't convinced because he says, "“Until it happens, no matter what anyone tells me, I won’t really believe anything. I don’t think I can.”

Now this extension to the exclusivity period is very strange. As Warnock moans, "“The window for the loan market ends next Thursday and I’ll be very surprised if it (the takeover) happens before then. So it doesn’t really help me. By all means I can look for players in January. But where will be in January?" Tell me, if you are a serious buyer, why would you drag out the deal so long, knowing that as every week passes, the chances of the team securing promotion recede? It now appears that Bates and GFH have yet to agree the deal! Six months down the line and they are still bloody negotiating!

The Guardian suggested this week that GFH Capital need to sell assets before they can buy and questioned the viability of the whole company, never mind the deal. No wonder Warnock is sounding depressed!

Of course, the mood could all change with a victory at Millwall. This is a huge game for Leeds. Lose it and the die is cast; win it and suddenly Leeds could be back on the up. Given the importance of the game, it is doubly surprising that Warnock has vented in this way. Maybe, just maybe, he is personally at the point of no return. Maybe he really has thrown in the towel.

  6. Kevin, I have a question for you to ponder on. Why do you keep returning to the site given you think it is all drivel.

And here's another one, if I write drivel, why have I been right all the way down the line about Leeds United and this takeover? You and others have maintained all along that the deal will happen "tomorrow". How many tomorrows have passed now exactly?

  9. As i have said many times before i do not believe anything until i can see it hs actually happened; this alleged takeover being a prime example. i don't like Warnock and never have, i was prepared to give him a chance and he's blown it quite spectacularly. Back when he came he knew what he was up against, including tight wad Bates, did not know about GFH, yet still went out looking for cut - price garbage; raiding the parts bin at Portsmouth was hardly going to help our cause as you so rightly said on several occasions; he complains about having no speed, yet it was he who sent Roy Rogers and Dom Poleon out on loan. he wasted what money he had on Peltier and a drug addled goalie a load of hard tackling midfielders who strangely couldn't take the ball off my dog; and now he moans about his lot. get the loanees back stick them and the other kids in the side and turn them loose like O'leary did; ay least they would damn well try unlike the present set off oaps and has nearly beens.

  10. Warnock says something positive, HF rips him to shreds, you wong win a thing leeds are shite northerners are inbred!!! Warnock is downbeat, HF says why so negative it's not so bad! Win the next one you might start a run and be up there. Indeed as some one posted yesterday it's not Leeds per se, we are merely the vehicle for HF to vent his schoolboy frustration against warnock (QPR last year) so I say l knighthood for warnock, arise sir warnock!!! p.s I know some of the grammar is bad but I can't be bothered changing it, just in case you thought about relying on old faithful when you know someone is right!! :-)) MOT

  11. I have never said or intimated in any way the takeover is tomorrow. If anything I would prefer that it carried on and on and allowed another bidder with more liquidity to make an offer, like any loyal fan of any club, more money potentially brings security, correct?. As far as visiting your blog lets say it is either morbid curiosity or the interesting chat from my fellow Leeds fans. Believe me I do not visit it to witness your repeated attacks of my club and other shite you write. MOT

  18. I await the time when West Ham return to their normal birth. I wonder if they will feel altitude sickness? They are certainly not used to heights!

Leeds fans are used to crap, we have had 10 years of it. We had a similar amount of it in the 80s but returned. Eventually we will be back!

Hopefully without, Warnock, Goto F*****g Hell or the dirty old man.

  19. 41 Blogs from this twat in November of which 18 were directly about Leeds and another 12 about QPR,Watford and one or two other clubs and I think the remainder referred to West Ham

This is the same West Ham who have made their best start to a season in 203 years. You would think that this would have made a West Ham Blog totally inundated with West Ham news and views.

What a strange fellow this 'Hammersfan' is
