Paulista Must Start At Aston Villa

Two games played and two goals scored. OK, it is only for the Academy team but so what? This guy has a record of scoring and his tail is up. Our away record is abysmal so previous formations and personnel have not worked. It's time for something different.

Allardyce has to abandon his negative mentality at Villa Park. Going forward, this Villa team is half decent, with Benteke and Ivebonkedawhore a more than lively pairing, but put them on the back foot, and they are dreadful.

We should get at them, attack them, lacerate them, destroy their confidence from the off. Take the lead and we will win, fall behind and Villa's confidence will surge.

Villa's game at Everton showed all their strengths and all their weaknesses too and the way they folded when under pressure in the final third of the game should decide Allardyce's tactics for him. They won't be able to handle Carroll if we exploit his strengths in the right way, they will lose Nolan every time he gets into the box, and JC and Paulista have the potential to terrify them.

Win at Villa and we are safe. Lose and there's still work to be done. Let's attack and back ourselves to come out as the better team!

  1. Where would we play him? On the wings? Or should we compromise Carroll? Not sure where you're getting at.

  2. You have given any ideas to how the team should line with Paulista in it. Who you going to drop?

  3. I would drop Vaz Te and Jarvis and start with Cole and Paulista personally. Can play 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 with that formation.

    1. Agree 110% need another goal scorer that would make sense Joe Cole and Paulista would make it perfect no doubt Ausie John

  4. Totally agree, currently writing an article on this myself. Seems to have a lot of determination as a player and is desperate to do well. Don't want to see him become another Brian Montenegro or George John. Will be angered if he's not in the West Ham team on Sunday.

  5. Totally agree... I have a good intuition about this Wellington. I have a feeling he really is going to bring something to the team. He comes from another football culture, thus thinks differently, and acts differently. Defences won't know how to handle him. His above average technique (from what I have seen) will also be an asset.

Now that we have a cushion margin is the time to use him, and if it works, we could also test seriously Spence and Potts for the rest of the season. If it goes well, our full back problems will be resolved...

  7. Well you must be really young, the best team we ever had played Frank McAvennie AND Tony Cottee TOGETHER up front. Would mean we have two wide men playing in midfield in a 4 - 4 - 2 formation

  8. He deserves a place on the bench. Not sure starting him is a good idea

  9. Can't see Paulista starting. BFS will start 4-5-1 as usual for away games with Andy Carroll as the lonely 1.
Villa will think they can win this one and come Sunday will fly out of blocks at our creaky defence. The first 15 minutes is our achilles heel. Villa have some good youngsters going forward. If the 4-5-1 can stifle the youthful exuberance of Villa beyond the first 30 minutes I feel we may have a chance. Concede early and that'll be it. We are not Reading -when was the last time we came back from 0-1 let alone 0-2. Should we get 2-0 in front why not bring on Paulista for the last 20 mins or so.

  11. So you still live with this fantasy that one day Allardyce might decide to attack It's not going to happen well not till Elvis rides Shergar to an away match anyway

  12. Benteke is going 2 eat your central defenders Carroll is a donkey in comparison

  13. I think villa will beat us benteke and agbonlahor will run riot against our slow back line and if we're relying on Carroll for goals we might as well give up

  15. Sorry to take you literally Lord Canning, but against QPR and Chelsea as far as 1-0 is concerned, and even against Fulham for 30 seconds or so!

  16. I thought you dedicated the other side of your blogs to your Il Duce Dicanio/ Warnock /Leeds/ Arry obsessions?

Two from that subject matter on the West Ham side in the last five you wrote.
I'm starting to think Leeds fans are correct for suggesting that the West Ham side of your blogs is becoming reliant on the provocative trash you write to keep your hits up.

  17. HF, when we went down with 42 points we only had 20 in the bank by February 4th (Statto is one awesome site). Im a pessimist like you but I can't see how even with a loss we are in danger anymore.
