Southampton back on top!

Southampton are back on top and based on a fifteen minute purple patch, when they played more football than we have managed all season, deservedly so.

I do like the look of Lallana and Lambert, they are head and shoulders better than anything we have. What impresses me is the way Southampton PASS the ball into the box rather than simply hoof it. There's a considered deliberation about their play that we can only dream of at the moment.

They failed to win again, of course, which is great news, but they are so much more entertaining to watch and are a credit to the game - unlike our bunch of crude mechanicals!

I agree Soton are the best team in the league in every sense but their journey is one that began four, five years from almost rock bottom. They are reaping the rewards now from among other things an excellent youth development squad which saved them from bankrupcy- mega fees for Theo, Gareth and Oxlade Chamberlin- and a stable and winning team with a good manager that have been gelling now for three years. They are also used to winning; none of the above applies to West Ham. Our youth output is overated - since Rio, Frank etc it has been fitful at best but its legend continues to dazzle; we have come off the back of three losing seasons and before you play dazzling football you need to be hard to beat; that's what Sam was brought in to do and five defeats in 22- only one by more than the odd goal- and 13 wins says he's done it so far. As I have said repeatedly he's a pragmatist. Sure the football isn't pretty, depressing even but in whose shoes would you rather be ? Leicester, Forest, Brighton- all tipped to do well, or ours? We are in transition and as such second is a good place to be just now- especially as we are now down to Harry's famous bare bones. It is infuriating that the stats say we are flying ( second best defence and second hghest scorers) but the spectacle speaks of mid table or worse but honestly let's be thankful that we are flying high while playing like we are; imagine what will happen if the team actually clicks!

And we hope you enjoy playing in the third tier of English football next season 1635. Which is more likely. By the way, do they have skools in Sowff Londin? Klub? Dear Krist alive! You are an A1 Kunt mate!

Keep banging the drum Kev. Reminds me of the Gunter Grass novel Tin Drum. Doctor Evil's West Ham Wanderers threw themselves down the flight of stairs to stunt their growth. March proudly in front of the stormtrooper rallies banging the expediency drum for now Kev. But it will come back to haunt us, mark my words! You embrace evil for short term pragmatic reasons and your soul is lost for ever. Ask another Doctor, Faustus!

Kevin in Mancheste you are spot on. I don't know what people expect after our recent history (us to suddenly turn into Barcelona?). I think BFS has done all right. The football isn't brilliant but its mostly effective as the table shows, and we are only point behind a very good team who are years ahead of us in team development and financial stability.

So lets hope West Ham and BFS keep annoying HF by winning more than we lose. COYI!

Kev, great post. HF seems to think Barcelona started playing great football overnight.

And I have to be honest, Nolan's volley the other week aside, we score some of the most rubbish goals. Just look at yesterday's. Dear God.

19:59 I've been coming here for a couple of years now and I still don't have a clue what HF thinks.

All you lot gpoing on about development when have you ever seen West Ham push on and develop something good?
We had a youth team that was better than the manure youth team of the beckham scholes giggs era while manure developed and won European cups and league titles with that core of players West Ham declared their ambition by selling Rio
Bill Shankly was that impressed by Ron Greenwood's West Ham he modelled the Red shite on Ron's ideals and they developed and won European cups and league titles and West Ham?
and if you believe this lot are after anything more than a nice little earner you my friend are deluded

Saints are not BACK on top; they never relinquished the top spot, as they has a superior goal difference. During the past three years, we have not had the same manager. We have had two, or did you forget Pardew? Yes, we benefited from the sale of our home-grown youngsters, monies received from the sale of Bale and Walcott delaying our going under, but Oxlade-Chamberlain was sold after we had been taken over by the wealthy Liebherr family. We do not need the proceeds of that money to keep us afloat now and I suspect that it will be used to strengthen the team next month to help ensure our promotion in May. But in my opinion you are right to say that the team has developed together over the past three years, although there have been quite a few additions to the team, but they have been introduced gradually and given time to gel.

Fair point 0851. Should have said "Outright".

oh HF don't be getting the Saints fans all riled up they already have huge problems with living in Portsmouth's shadow

We score 'rubbish goals'? Honestly, that takes the proverbial biscuit and sums up some of the miseries on this sit. We score 'rubbish goals'- some of you will still be moaning if we get promoted. Go watch Spurs- you're kindred spirits with those moaners.

I could say we score great goals and play great football 13:17 but then I'd be talking utter bullsh*t

Krist.....will you be going to the game at the Den wearing your HF shirt then?

Masty said...

Believe it or not, he'd be safer at the Den in a HF shirt than he would at the Boleyn.
