We wondered where Dyer was when he didn't take the field against Depotivo and now we know. He was resting up for a week after playing a full hour at friendly pace against Ipswich.
So, after all the "I'm fit and ready for the new season" bullshit, we now see the truth. That "scar tissue" may have been reduced, but Dyer will still take to the pitch with Kleenex tissue at the ready for when he cries off before 60 minutes are up!
There is a mini splurge of articles today talking about the progress Dyer has made on the fitness front but the situation remains an absolute joke. We are paying the guy £83k a week and there is still no sign of him being able to play for 90 minutes. An unnamed "source" - so that would be Betty the tea lady - said: "He might just be able to make a major contribution again."
Well even Betty doesn't sound too confident does she? Might and just don't sound great when we are shelling out £4.3 million a year in wages to the guy! Bloody hell, Davenport is trying to make a comeback after having a leg as near as damn sliced off, Dyer sounds as if he is still behind Calum in terms of playing a full game!
