Has Sullivan Been Slapped Down By Gold?
What the bloody hell is going on in Diddy David's head? His retraction today, following yesterday's ill advised remarks, sounds like the confused bumblings of a madman. In one breath he says he was out of order, "I can see Zola's counter argument that these issues are best not brought to light so close to a game, and yes he has a point, so I am not upset for him expressing it"; and in the next he claims his salary cut comments were a masterstroke of motivation, designed to "galvanise" the team and improve results, "I hope it bonds the team and the manager closer together, so they go out and say they are going to show everybody what they can do, what they are made of".
Has Gold perhaps had a word in his shell like and told him he is not the only David running the show? Sullivan sounds like a man who has had a flea in his ear as he protests, "People at West Ham have got to face reality. West Ham have won four of their last 24 games, so who can blame me for wanting to take a strong stance if that ends up motivating people?"
Just how threatening a 25% wage cut is meant to be a way of "galvanising" a team is beyond me! Lining up your players and kicking them in the bollocks just before the kick off seems to be in the same ball park to me!
And then Sullivan admits that the threatened wage cut is impossible anyway, saying, "As for reality, you cannot impose a 25% cut in players' wages, you cannot cut their wages at all. They have contracts, so it cannot happen, you simply cannot enforce it however much you would like to." I made this point yesterday so maybe David is reading this blog!
It is all very odd. My guess is that Zola went to Gold and told him that there was a player revolt in the offing and Gold then slapped Sullivan down for his stupid remarks. It seems typical of the man that even in his retraction and apology, he is still trying to claim credit for himself. In his mind, he is probably now putting the victory tonight down to his comments!
Just listen to the arrogance of his closing remarks! "But I have become an optimist. I believe we will stay up. But it won't be easy beating Birmingham. They come with an impressive record of only one loss in 18, against a team with four wins in 24. Let's see if I have helped motivate the team and the manager."
Apology and retraction? What apology and retraction?

Ok, neither agree OR disagree on this one! :)
But I have to say, I honestly think that Ricky Gervais, ummm I mean David Brent, ummm sorry, I mean David Sullivan knew exactly what he was doing! He apologised and backtracked incase we didn't win tonight, which lets face it, wouldn't have been a massive surprise!
DS is a brilliant business man and he knows how to work the media and press to his advantage! He has done it many many times!
And he is not mug when it comes to running a football club!
Sorry, but he knew what he was doing!
And........IT WORKED :)
David gold was always putting out the fires at brum and always said he supported west ham and was liked Sullivan said that one day he wanted to own Cardiff his home town club take what he says with a pinch of salt
Anonymous, that is a massive crock of spud poo!
David Sullivan was the oil in the cogs that kept Brum going! Gold is also a great businessman but he is by NO means superior to Sullivan!
Why does NO ONE understand business, media and publicity!
Once again, NO publicity is bad pulicity!
The squad and club knew exactly what was going on and they were part if this! He 'publicly' slates the players and their wages, Brum think we are alll over the place, turn up and expect to win! We walk all over them!
Errr what happened? We walked all over them!
Well done David! Job well done!
Sullivan hasn't apologised for anything Matt, and so he shouldn't. Do agree that he is a fantastic business man though. His attraction to the media has shown West Ham fans to be a real picky bunch, which has annoyed the f*** out of me to be honest. I don't see any reason why they can't make us great 'again'.
Matt Ryan!
Stop using exclamtion marks after each sentence!
It makes you look incredibly stupid!
And it is highly annoying!
And you're talking shi t!
Matt Ryan...
I get the terrible feeling that you are serious about this being a staged event.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
does anyone else think sullivan looks like Baron Greenback ? thank you for pointing it out to me Gordon S, hilarious

T.I.S - I should have said Backtracked, not apologised! Sorry! :)
Anonymous, shut the f**k up! If I want to use exclamation marks, I'll use them! If you don't like it, F**K OFF!
Apache, yes I do believe it because it's the truth! If you can't see that then you need help!
If you watch Zola in the press conference when he was asked about Sullivan's comments, you will see that it was not staged/planned at all. Zola was vexed.
Sullivan should not take any credit for yesterday's win. There is no logical reason why he should. Well done Zola and the players and the fans; you deserve all the credit.
When the 2 David's were lining themselves up to take over, I wasn't impressed. But they say you know ho well a manager (owner) has done by the health of the company (football club) shortly after they've left - well Birmingham are doing well! The fact they are (apparently west ham supporters), want a world class stadium, brought in 3 strikers, which didn't cost them a bomb, and are pulling (what ever) strings to motivate the team - they must be commended for it! For the first time in many years you get a sense that someone (or 2 to be precise) are fully in control of the club.
Wow mate! That is optimistic for you! Sure one win hasn't gone to your head?
Yes it would have been brilliant to have got a billionaire owner like Chelsea or Man City, but it didn't happen.
I do think these guys will do well for the club, and are shred, have experience and will spend in the summer (hopefully)..
Well if DS really did this and used the media to somehow motivate the team, it really was a short sighted communication strategy.
But then again, these are pretty desperate times.
!
Only wish that someone would slap you down.
You would have to stand on a chair to do it!
