Horrific Coincidence for the Greater West Ham Family

Bobby Moore's son, Dean, pictured with his father and mother, Tina outside their home in 1970
How sad. Genuinely so. I took some stick when I complained that the "sincere condolences" messages when Scotty's Dad died were maudlin, but how sad is it to read of the death of Bobby Moore's son, aged just 43, the day after the news broke that Dylan Tombides has been diagnosed with testicular cancer whilst still in his teens?

Perhaps there is a message of hope here for Dylan. The incomparable Bobby Moore was, of course, successfully treated for testicular cancer in 1964, and yet still went on to be the greatest defender ever to grace the game.

Unbelievable news about Tombides. Just made senior and with a promissing future ahead of him. Its further proof that our club is cursed! Lets hope for a speedy recovery.

I read a lot about cancer research and it does seem as though at last the scientists are beginning to chip away at the edges of this accursed disease.Feel confident that Tombides will be ok. If it should return in years to come, by then it will probably be curable.
Bobby Moore's son? What a tragedy. They all look so happy in the photograph. Life can be a 'bitch' as they say.

Puts things into perspective.

Bobby's mrs always comes across with such dignity. I genuinely feel for her tonight (stop it HF / Stani... don't go there!)

I agree mate. Moore led her a merry dance but through it all, she sought to protect him. A huge contrast with the WAGS of today.

You took some stick for the Scott Parker thing because it was insensitive and unecessary.

Bobby Moore didn't die of Testicular Cancer he died of Bowel and Liver Cancer.

Still, the good news for young Tombides is that it's been caught early so it is likely he will be fine after surgery and treatment.

I didn't say Bobby died from testicular cancer, I said he RECOVERED from it! Try to keep up.

I wouldn't have posted about the death of Bobby's son if not for the news about Tombides. I remain of the opinion that if not directly connected with the club, it is a private matter. You will note that I have avoided trite and meaningless "sincere condolences" nonsense. If he has died due to his alcoholism - as is being suggested in some quarters - then I'm afraid I have very little sympathy. The point about the thread is that the news coincided with the announcement of Dylan's testicular cancer - a cancer that afflicted Bobby Moore in his early twenties.
