Sorry about the headline but the pun was irresistible. On paper it looks a fantastic deal. £650,000 upfront is chicken feed in the big scheme of things, and apparently the wages are not that huge if the "wonderkid" doesn't perform to expectations. If the fee does rise to closer to £3m then great, that means the boy has developed and has international caps to his name.
But there is a but of course. First off, Ferguson doesn't make many mistakes when all is said and done. Name me a player who has gone on to greater things after Fergie waved him goodbye. Luke Chadwick? Nicky Butt? Carlos Tevez? Chris Eagles? It's difficult isn't it? I suppose Beckham may claim to have proved a point after moving to Real Madrid. And regret was expressed over the sale of Jaap Stam. And Phil Neville has prospered at Everton. And I bet Ferguson would rather have Howard between the sticks. But has he let any young nuggets go? I'm struggling to think of any. Most are retained too long, just in case, like Gibson. Ferguson is a Scot when all is said and done, and Scots don't give anything away, apart from university education and prescription medication at a cost to the English taxpayer!
Then there is Ravel himself. This boy isn't just bad, he is nasty. Let's face it, there's been a few footballers done for knocking the wife or girlfriend about, but I've never known one to lay in to his own mother. How screwed up in the head do you have to be to do that?
And now he is down in London, with a Manc accent presumably, and staying in a hotel in East London. It's a bloody recipe for disaster if you think about it! How long before he bumps into a John Terry, gets called a f*****g black c**t, and takes immediate retribution? How long before an Essex tart sells her story "How Ravel Ravished Me?" to the Sunday Mirror? How long before a girl is blazoned all over the front page of The Sun with two black eyes? Let's face it, there's a lot of money to be made from a loony young footballer. More reasons to shop at Morrisons as they say on the adverts!
I'm not criticising the deal itself, but I think it wise to exercise caution. Yes, we could reflect back in years to come with the same level of amazement as we felt when it was announced that Tevez and Mascherano had joined us. But that deal didn't exactly go to plan, did it?
One for the future, perhaps. Or one for the rubbish heap. Only time will tell. And meantime, Allardyce is looking to "develop" him! "OK son, so I've seen all the fancy stuff and you can cut that out for a start. See that ball? Now show me just how hard and far you can kick it!"

I think the board and manager have considered all of what you have said and accordingly the price is commensarate to the risk factor. Fergie is at a time of life when he will make mistakes and lets hope this is one of them. We don't know what type of parents or friends this lad has ended up with or the circumstances or truth of any the alleged offences. If he is as good as everyone makes out, then he must have been a bad lad for Man U to let him go, but everyone deserves a second chance, so lets give him one, and hope he has the guts and concentration to accept it.
Diego Forlán
Forlan's a good call but he wasn't a kid as such was he?
Really can't think of any other kid that Fergie let go. But the price was alright,so we'll have to wait and see what happens next with that guy. Presumably,he's got a shitload of talent and has a Joey Barton-esque character. Hopefully,he'll be a gem for us! COYI!
Giuseppe Rossi
Great call Dean. And Frazer Campbell may come into the category too. Great goal last night and at the weekend.
Gerard Piqué
Jonathan Spector lol!
Blimey - how do you do it, you've a gift I tells ya.... you're like a direct conduit to the all seeing eye. Your insight is amazing... ever thought of working for the government or the church?
LOL 1921. Pique is a reasonable shout but I could play at the back for Barcelona and Spain - the opposition never get the bloody ball!
Maybe this move will help him, he wants to play and is (hopefully) eager to prover a point.
Maybe he was so frustrated by not being in the mU 1st team that he lost motivation and lost controll.
Cpatain Kev will take him in his house (just like Carrol) and keep him out of trouble.
How about Gerard Piqué? He was 21 when Fergy sold him to Barcelona.
He's since won the Champions League twice, (both times against Man United), as well as the Euros and World Cup for Spain.
He's also getting his end away with Shakira.
I am hopeful for this signing. There's something about the club and its supporters that has a habit of working for some cast-offs. Has Tevez been truly happy at any other club? Was Paolo Di Canio not 'in disgrace' and a besmirched name when he arrived (admittedly under the tutelage of one Harry Rednapp)? Let's face it, we are yearning for a hero!
Hope you are right HM!
Let's put it this way, HF, he's the only one of the 3 signings that gets my pulse racing! It isn't that long ago that we were heralding Baldock as the new messiah. Does Maynard promise any more?
I can name two players, guiseppe Rossi and gerard pique!!
Might be music to all our ears... An attacking playmaker that don't listen to his managers! Here's hoping for a through ball on the ground !!!!
LOL Spot on Beelzebub!
