What's to be done with a problem like Quashie? Feed him to the Wolves?

For those of us old enough, the old XTC number "We're only making plans for Nigel" might come to mind. I don't rate Quashie as a player and, after Ljungberg, he must be the dumbest of Curbishley's dumb signings, but I can't help but feel for the guy. He didn't ask Curbishley to buy him and, unlike Davenport, he has resisted the temptation to bitch about the club and yet, cruelly in my view, he has been left behind with the kids, isolated from the first team squad as if he is a victim of swine flu. Faubert is on the trip to Austria so surely a seat could have been found for Nigel?

He is clearly unwanted so what are we going to do with him? Perhaps we could follow the example of Michael Owen and prepare a brochure to be circulated around clubs. On the plus side, he has made over 300 first team appearances and has been capped 14 times for Scotland. In fact, he has a unique selling proposition, having been capped at U21 and B level for England but full international level with Scotland. Not many players have bridged Hadrian's Wall in that way have they? Of course the fact that he has been relegated three times from the Premiership might need to be glossed over. With Wolves and Birmingham apparently showing interest, there must be a good chance that Nigel could yet go down again. At this rate, he could change his name by deed pole to Gillian Taylforth!

The big stumbling block to any move is, of course, Nigel's salary. Like so many from the Turds and Egg interregnum he is taking home an absurdly inflated wage packet that no other club would be stupid enough to match. So we can't sell him and I'd imagine that any loan deal would be on the basis of us still paying a chunk of his wages. I am often asked why I am so hard on Curbishley. I give you exhibit A, Nigel Quashie!

I hope Nigel finds a club soon and earns his corn from West Ham by helping that club to relegation. Wolves or Birmingham? Take your pick Nigel, you can go with my blessing!

As you say, nobody's going to pay his wages so the best thing is for him to be used as experience for the younger lads.

Our reserve team is the youth squad plus first year professionals and the youth squad will feature several schoolboys. So if it is not possible to move Quashie and Davenport on, they may discover a future career as a youth team coach whilst acting as the experience that helps young players to achieve their full potential.

Do we really want them passing on to the kids what they know Marty?

Question fanno: Why do you feel the need to keep inventing other handles just to try and prove your point and who cares if you and your one little voice didn't like Curbishley, do you really think anyone else is bothered? Nigel Quashie is an accomplished footballer and the very reason he had gone down with clubs previously was a good reason for buying him for his experience in a dog fight - but I don't expect you to understand that because if everyone is not the top dog at his game (like you are at yours, tee hee) then he's no good. You got to grow up a little to understand that all players have different attributes to bring to the party - Goes to Wolves comes back to UP and makes us pay, forgone conclusion. Man City are building a side of 25m to 850 billion pound players, go support them if that's what you want or try supporting your own - now there's a novelty bhum tish

GZ, why don't you address arguments instead of trying to insult people. Read the article again. I say I feel sorry for Quashie. It is not his fault Curbishley bought him and Zola doesn't rate him. In his position, I would have signed and taken the absurd wages. If you want to argue on behalf of Nigel, take your complaint to Zola, not to me. i would have taken him to Austria and given him the chance to fight for his place. Zola left him with the kids and Downpipe, not me.

As for Marty being me, grow up eh?

Gordon Zola's reply to HF 18:53

The whole tone of your post is to mock and mock you do. When taken to task for your belittling of a West Ham player you fall back on that old trustee of yours, justification. I know what Zola did but that does not give you the right to mock. If you did grow up a little and posted something with an adult theme, then who knows, on the other hand..

It is a shame Quashie was just thrown out there during a shite season. Never had the chance really to mesh and improve with coaches like Zola and Clarkey. Although, maybe he has been given the chance and just wasnt cutting it. 99% of us supporters dont truly know what goes on behind closed doors. Maybe his Mrs likes it better north of watford. LOL

He will be going nowhere near Molineux and I very much doubt that Blues will have him off you.
Wolves will not be going down and I definitely fancy us for 3 points in the opening game!

Club and manager don't have the best of records when it comes to surviving in the Prem rob. Hull will go down but two others will drop with them. Wolves look very weak to me. I fancy Burnley to do the Reading / Hull this year, enjoying one glorious season before plunging back down the next year. As we very nearly did of course.

Much different this time. Our team is packed full of full and under 21 internationals eg Hennessey, Foley, Stearman, Berra, Kightly, Edwards, Vokes, Ebanks-Blake, Doyle, Surman and Keogh.
The sides worse than us are Hull, Blues and Burnley for starters and Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn and Portsmouth I fancy will struggle!

Providing we are not embroiled in it, I hope you are right Rob. I have followed the highs and lows of Wolves over many years going back to when Peter Knowles closed his career early. I loved the passion of Dougan when he returned to save the club and enjoyed your rise from old Division 4 back to where you belong, in that neverland between the Championship and the Prem. Like ourselves, Wolves have always tried to play football rather than clog your way to victory so good luck. Providing we finish above you, I don't care where you finish! Mind you, I hope we stuff you first game up of course!
