Well said David Gold for knocking Newcastle and Manchester City!

It may not be wise to wind them up, especially when we are playing Newcastle at the weekend, but Gold got it absolutely right when he called the two line ups, for last night's game,  a "disgrace" because there were only three Englishmen amongst the 22 starters - and one of those was sent off!

This is a World Cup year and it is shameful that Premiership clubs are not doing more to help the national team's cause. We have seen what has happened to the Scottish national side because of the selfishness of the Glasgow clubs, and there is a real danger of England going the same way.

Counting our Celtic and Irish players, we could field virtually an all British 11, with players in correct positions:

AN Other: O'Brien, Tomkins, Collins, Tayor: Noble; Cole, Nolan, Morrison; Jarvis, Downing; Carroll

And that is without playing any kids, Collison or McCartney!

I know the Treaty of Rome ties our hands a bit, but it would be easy to ban all non EU players from the game if clubs show a contempt for the national team.

Manchester City and Newcastle United are not in the business of developing the English National team. They are in the business of winning football games using any resources legally available to them.

If you want to field a team made up of only Brits, be my guest, but you do so at your own peril. There should be no complaining when you finish well off the pace.

It has been said time and time again and if West ham had the money to buy quality players they to would buy foreign players. So Gold you may not like it but it is here to stay as fans pay good money to see the best players not average English players.

It's not long ago that City had SIX players on the field representing England. David Gold couldn't give a monkey's about England. He's just taking a cheap shot. It's teams that don't let their players go with England that are holding the national team back. And the fact there aren't any good English players. If they were good enough, the likes of City would buy them.

Don't be hypocritical you wouldn't complain if your team had any of the foreigners city have .why pay well over odds for British talent when you can sign the top scoring Spanish player for 20 million .just concentrate on your own club gold and not on ours .mcfc

Get back to what you publish best Mr Gold

Sadly this is "Cobblers" the days of an all British is impossible. Man City fielded 11 Englishmen in 69 Cup Final. In 69 there was no Sky TV or "Champions League" the emphasis was on the league or cup.Today it is all about Worldwide marketing thus the necessity to have lots of foreigners.

Henderson in Goal and your team is complete

Gold has a point. but he is pointing the finger in the wrong place. Especially with City. If you do your research you will find an awful lot of Ex City and England player knocking about. QPR a classic example. Sorry David for an owner you really should know your football better than you do.

What a shit national side that would be

Yes, well done David Gold, the man who bought Carlos Tevez and deposed English forwards Harewood and Cole, with his foreigner.

Special mention for breaching Premiership rules in signing Tevez and getting fined £5.5M

nothing said from knock knock .

Henderson might be able to make the step up, considering there aren't all that many British strikers around. Could extend to British and Commonwealth nationals to get Reid too.

As a Newcastle fan I'm not a bit interested in England. Club before country always.

None of dem playas is in the nashional syde tho innit

Anonymous said...

Shame none of those will get in the England side anytime soon

I couldn't give a toss after the way that England shafted us over Dean Ashton's career ending injury. England play boring football and I hope they don't qualify. F*&^ 'em.

If Newcastle focused more on developing local talent, you might get a team that plays with pride in the shirt! How hard are the French Foreign Legion going to try in the middle of a cold, cold winter?

Gold didn't sign Tevez you Dickwod! Hardwood left before they took over too! Geez you get some right thicko's on here. True we would be signing Europes best if we had enough coffers but the wank brothers have spunked what they've got on British talent, and fair play to them. He's just a bit of a dickhead winding up another team before we play them.

Anonymous said...

You will know come the end of the season when they Finnish above you in the league spam dangler! And as for a side that consists of British players....... It's not the Olympics!

Anonymous said...

gold didnt sign tevez u nugget. seems u need to get your facts right

Anonymous said...

David gold had nothing to do with the signing of tevez, he had been & gone well before gold took over.

Hammersfan said...

I think to be fair to Gold 2055, he was just reacting as an Englishman without any thought to the implications to West Ham.

As for the Tevez remark, it was so stupid it didn't really warrant a reply. As if Sullivan and Gold would be THAT stupid! One thing's for sure, they would never agreed to compensation for Shafting United. Well played Mr Duxbury - NOT!!!

I'm a hammers supporter, and to be honest who gives a toss what Gold or his manikin says, they need to concentrate on us, and sign a striker, all this bollocks on sky is going to their heads, good luck to city coz i'm damn sure if we had the dough we'd be overwhelmed with foreign player, and wouldn't that be cool, COYI

West Ham first team squad - 11 English players

Well played Mr. Gold.

Your all a disgrace to English football. Saying you dont care about english football. Gold got it right. Well said. Even the few hammer fans in here that just slagged him off. Fo and support millwall you dont deserve to wear the claret n blue shirts. Id rather watch a game with a British back bone any day of the week.

Well admitted 2236. We all make mistakes some times. Just ask Robert Green!

The reality of the situation is that the Premier League is a global league. It's the equivalent of the NBA or MLB. More often than not, the best and most notable players will gravitate to it due to exposure, wages, etc.

One side effect of this in the MLB is due to the in flux of Latin players and the increasing popularity of the NFL and NBA, there are very few African American players in the Majors now (just 8.5% of the league is black).

Demographics are ever-changing in top flight sports leagues. The Premier League is not a training ground for the national team. If the players were good enough, they'd be playing in other countries if not England.

Sea change is necessary from the bottom up. Smaller wages at lower levels and more of a focus on technical prowess would get players accustomed to playing in another country.

As for robert green. Its a shame he never chose to stay with us but hey money talks nowadays. But i think jussi has filled the position brilliantly but the question is how much longer can he go on for he's getting on now. But i have faith in bfs he had proved time and time again he no's what he's doing. Great job by him and the owners for what they are achieving coyi!!!!

Take out the foreign players and the quality of the league drops. English players need to be developed to play against the best players in the world not each other. If English players don't shine in the premier league/champions league what makes anyone think they do well in WC's???

Anonymous said...

Gold didn't say it. A bogus david gold twitter account said it..

Man City where the last English club to win a domestic league with a entire English team, so shove that in your pipe a smoke it goldyloxx!!

Why are West ham not making top drawer signings? Because Mr Gold voted for FFP, so he has a ready made excuse when fans complain about not making them. All the while he sits in his mansion, smoking cigars rolled on the thighs of Cuban virgins and laughing his wotsits off at the Hammers fans who continue to line his pockets through their loyalty and hard-earned money.

Don't want to be a killjoy, but your irish players are not british, so it wouldnt be an all british team. Have you ever heard of the British and Irish Lions? Hench the "and Irish". You could have a British and Irish Hammers though.

Anonymous said...

I, for one, couldn't give a f*** about England's national team. Football these days is about club success whether anyone likes it or not.

Anonymous said...

How can you "...make up a British XI with Irish players"? (Proving that Wham supporters ain't got no 'istry innit)

Unknown said...

Im a hammers fan but I care about my national team too. I am English it hurts like fk when we lose. Im an Eastender too, it hurts like hell when the hammers lose.

The reason england are sht is that people like the ones that couldnt care about their own country and only like their own club side want instant gratification! No time to bring players through. Slagged of by "want it now" so called supporters and held back. Not to mention the fact that they are paid way too much too soon and thus have no hunger so settle for mediocrity with an average club.

Unknown said...

The only people complaining are a bunch of jealous & anvious genital heads.

Micah Richards was out injured and James Milner was being rested otherwise Manchester City would have had 4 English players on show.

You should see how many English players we have in our reserve and youth ranks as well, these people need a slap.

Anonymous said...

what difference does it make to you hf.youre not even a proper west ham fan.why dont you get a steaua season ticket. armchair wanker

Anonymous said...

'O'Brien, Tomkins, Collins, Tayor: Noble; Cole, Nolan, Morrison; Jarvis, Downing; Carroll ' all mid table players which is exactly where west ham are.unless they ban foreigners, which they wont, the only way to be the best will be to buy the best From wherever

Anonymous said...

So spam dangler, do you feel stupid now praising gold even tho it wasn't his Twitter account! Ha ha ha u also made yourself look stupid with your comments about the Celts and Irish when also referring to the national side, like I said it's not the Olympics!

Revolver said...

This is all bollocks and as usual one of our owners is opening his big fucking mouth as wide as he can.

The team that started against Cardiff only had four English players and of those, three are unlikely to ever get near being picked for England and the other one's England career is pretty much over.

On top of that, every striker we've been linked with recently has been foreign which tells you where our priorities lie.

The fact is that clubs have to pick players they think will give them success and unfortunately that generally means bringing in foreign talent.

Michu....or Carlton Cole ? Who cost the most ?

English people are sadly now too fat to play football, after years of booze, pies and chips.
