David James and Shaka Hislop Put Jack Boot into Sunderland's Di Canio

Interesting to read both Shaka and David James chipping in their five pennyworth in the Il Duce Di Canio debate.

According to Shaka, Di Canio is not a racist - not that anybody has ever suggested he is - but he does question the Italian's ability to manage in the Prem and suggests he walks a narrow line between "genius and insanity".

David James goes further, saying that he always regarded Di Canio as a "dictator" and says that his straight arm salute to the Lazio fans simply confirmed what he had always suspected, that Di Canio was an unpleasant individual.

Meanwhile 'Arry has asked where all this fascist stuff has suddenly come from, claiming nobody mentioned it when Il Duce was in charge at Swindon. He really should check out this blog more often!

One last thought, will Di Canio wear a black arm band at Newcastle out of respect for Thatcher?

So you were all for the three day week? 20% inflation, discontented winters and rubbish in the streets? I guess I shouldn't be surprised.... that would have allowed this country to have been taken over first by the unions and then the Russians. Thank god of Maggie that's what I say.

Dear Anonymous (11th April 1:02). Thanks for your reactionary rant. Do you read the Daily Mail by any chance?

I'm no great fan of the Labour party but I can't let your "20% inflation" claim go without comment.

The average inflation rate while Thatcher was PM was just under 7.7%. That’s lower than Ted Heath (Tory) - 9.62%, Jim Callaghan (Labour) - 13.5% and the second time that Harold Wilson (Labour) was PM – 18.9%.

However, it’s higher than John Major (Tory) – 3.77% and three Labour PMs – Harold Wilson’s first stint – 4.42%, Tony Blair – 1.58% and Gordon Brown – 2.82%.

If you want to check the figures then go to this website and calculate them like I did - http://www.whatsthecost.com/historic.cpi.aspx.

That’s assuming that your level of education is adequate, although I somehow doubt it judging by your last comment – “Thank god of Maggie”. I think what you meant to say was “Thank God for Maggie”!
