Elano to Upton Park!

Sorry, not news, just speculation. But who on here would fancy him? City are planning to offload and he seems the ideal partner for Parker in central midfield, offering genuine flair as a counterfoil to Scotty's endeavour. We need creativity and goals from our midfield and I fancy a Zola managed Elano would fit the bill perfectly. With Behrami and Parker running themselves into the ground, Collison springing beyond the strikers and Elano picking the passes, we really would be a force to reckon with going forward. Just imagine a fully fit Ashton in front of that fabulous four!

Am I in cloud cuckoo land or is this a possibility?

You are in cloud cuckoo land, Ashton will never be fully fit

LMAO I think him Beano and Dyer have been locked in a cellar somewhere in Austria haven't they?

You've got to question his season-long commitment. He's something of a throwback for me - the classic foreign player, looks class in August when the suns out yet goes into football hibernation between November and February. I'd rather give Collison a much greater forward role TBH. I worry about his effect on the dressing room. Zola must pick carefully to improve the squad AND retain the balance of the side. Its a 'no' from me I'm afraid. Denbighammer.

Fair enough. We could do a Di Canio with him though. OK, he won't figure on a cold day at the Britannia Stadium but with the sun on his back and the UP faithful in full voice, he could look magic. If not Elano, who would you go for? Yossi won't return will he? Kranjier is likely to be too expensive. Any ideas?

I heard deadly Don Hutchinson might come back for a 3rd stint??

The trouble with players like Elano is that their contribution has to be be measured not only in what they contribute , but also in what they fail to contribute when they go missing. At a top four club they can be used as an impact player and may be happy as part of a squad, but with us they will expect to play all the time and put in jeopardy the excellent team spirit we have working for us at the moment. Not to mention the continuity that is such an important part of any success achieved by smaller clubs.

Welcome on board Adam. Ironside, I offer again Di Canio. Perhaps not always 100% committed to the cause but I don't think any of us would prefer that we had never signed him. Elano plays football the West Ham way - I'd love to see him in our colours!
