Leeds set for Bournemouth, Wigan, QPR, Reading, Doncaster and Brentford or Yeovil

No wonder GFH Capital did a deal on season tickets given the profile of the Championship next season. Apart from Leeds themselves and Leicester, Nottingham Forest, Birmingham, Derby, Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday, the division has suddenly taken on a distinctly mediocre look.

Home fixtures against the likes of Bournemouth, Wigan and Brentford or Yeovil are not going to set the pulses racing are they? It is true that Doncaster offer the prospect of another derby game, but Hull City are a more mouth watering prospect than little Donny aren't they? And as for Brentford or Yeovil, well Leeds might as well be back in the old Third Division for the glam factor in those fixtures.

The big London clubs are all in the Prem, meaning that a trip to the nation's capital will only involve games against relative minnows QPR, Millwall, Charlton and either Palace or Watford. And even amongst the "big 7", outside of Yorkshire, Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday would not trigger much excitement for rival fans.

Still, Leeds fans can look forward to a few days at the seaside - with games at Bournemouth, Blackpool, Wigan and Brighton. And if Yeovil win their play off final, it would be a relatively short pilgrimage down to Cornwall to pay homage to the Warnock sitting beneath his Bohdi tree.

Of course, fans of Ipswich, Middlesbrough, Blackburn and Bolton will object that they belong in the same bracket as Leeds, Leicester and Nottingham Forest, but outside of their fan bases, everybody knows that's not so.

The marketing men have a big job in selling the Championship next season because, apart from the parochial conflicts centered on Yorkshire and the Midlands, it all looks very much like a low budget cast.

Apologies, accidentally posted on wrong site.

Good morning troll. Another busy day at the office? No, you'd rather sponge off the state. The life in Romania, the fancy balls and garden swimming pools are just a fantasy in your head. We know the truth now, Corey. You're just a loser desperate for attention.

Leeds have been minor league for so long now that I don't even associate them with any of the real 'big' players any more. However, now you've been taken over that will change eh........?

Ye and I cant wait hf! Ill be attending leeds games next season, how many wh games will you be going to???

As a Bournemouth fan I take great exception at this. If Leeds are such a great club why are they not in the Premiership?
They are in the league that results over the past few years have shown they should be in along with all the other Championship teams.
We are all where are results have put us.

Lets smash Bournemouth up again!leeds leeds leeds.

HA! I'd like to see Bournemouth £100m in debt and see if their still going as the same club a decade later.

Upper tiers of football are becoming full of over-ambitious, overly financed small town clubs. This is because it is easy for buisinessmen to run and finance them, which means getting them in the premier league means a higher profit margin, rather than taking on the running costs of a city club. Within the next ten or twenty years I think it is inevitable we will see a franchised top flight with no promotion or relegation, but clubs based on fanbase and catchment area

Leeds... Yet another self-professed 'sleeping giant'.

Big club, yes. Relevant in the modern era, no.

One league title in 39 years does not a giant make.

In fact, 3 league titles puts you on a par with Blackburn, doesn't it? And Huddersfield? And 1 behind Wednesday?

Guess that (further) ruins your article!

to all the fans of their local village teams whining on here - the person who wrote this is NOT a Leeds fan , quite the opposite he is a self-professed Leeds hater. As a Leeds fan I personally don't care who we play, football is 11 vs 11 at the end of the day, if a club has the finances there are no limits to what they achieve, so good luck to Bournmouth and Yeovil, I hope you do well

Accidentally posted, or a feeble effort to generate more readers responses to 'this side' of your blog than you ever get when you write about West Ham?

Erm ... may I suggest you use a calculator? Leeds was the last team to win the old First Division in 1992 before the 'Premier League' came into force. Which I think you'll find is 21 years ago, not 39 yrs. By the way, you conveniently overlook our 2 x Fairs Cup Wins (now Europa Cup)which the other teams you mentioned have failed to achieve!

Im a Leeds fan, and admit Leeds aren’t a big club anymore, but there is always potential for Leeds to be one, theres never going to be that potential in 90% of the clubs in the championship apart from probably Forest. Leeds were a great team from mid 60s to mid 70s, however that was more down to having a great manager, who found an outstanding crop of young players. However once he had gone, Leeds reverted to its true status as a provincial team. Leeds have never really been able to cement their place as a elite club after that, the club could not keep up with the likes of Liverpool etc, who had bigger stadiums and finances. Leeds have potential to be a super-club if they had either a 60k stadium or big financial backer, or both, but that is as unlikely now with FFP rules coming in. Leeds were unlucky to collapse financially before the emergence of foreign backers

The 1 thing that us northern folk agree about is , we all hate Leeds scum whatever division there in

And how many years before they won it in 1992 numb-nuts?!

I'll make it 23 comments. I love us being referred too as "the likes of Doncaster". It's just a reminder of how far we've come over the last few years.
