Bruce is Sunderland's New Big Man!

Well, listening to Niall Quinn as he humiliated Sbragia on Sunday, I had visions of Blunderland appointing a top continental manager or a really clever choice like Jol or Woy Hodgeson. But no, Niall was anxious to elbow Sbragia aside in order to appoint...Steve Bruce!

It suddenly all makes sense doesn't it? Blunderland need a top manager to take them to the next level, a man experienced at spending big transfer budgets and managing top players with huge egos. They need a man who has achieved regular finishes in the top half of the Premiership and a record of winning trophies. So the obvious candidate is clearly...Steve Bruce!

Yes Steve Bruce! You know, the guy who took Birmingham down once and who would have led them to relegation a second time if he hadn't jumped ship to Wigan like the rat that he clearly is! Yes, the same Steve Bruce, whose Wigan's side was in pole position to qualify for Europe at the beginning of February before they fell away pathetically to finish 8 points off seventh place. The same Steve Bruce who cannot manage Zaki and who has had falls outs with other "big name" players over the years. And the same Steve Bruce who supports...Newcastle United!

Perhaps they should put up a welcoming banner at the Stadium of Enlightenment, carrying this delicious quotation from the new Big Man to replace the loyal and devoted Ricky Sbragia:

"I have always been a Newcastle lad and when I was a kid, I crawled under the turnstiles to get in to try and save a bob or whatever it was. They were my team, I went to support them as a boy and being a Geordie it's in-bred in you, you follow the club still the same today."

Blunderful, absolutely Blunderful!

He 's not too popular at Crystal Palace either is he??

THIS ARTICLE COULD BE WRITTEN BY ANY OF A BITTER BARCODE, A RETARDED WELSH TWAT OR A BRUMMY (SAY NO MORE) BRUCE DIDNT WALK OUT ON B'HAM HE LEFT BEFORE HE WAS FIRED BECAUSE THEY OPENLY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE HIM, AND THEY WERE IN A GREAT POSITION BEFORE HE LEFT THEN GOT RELEGATED, AND IN JANUARY WIGAN SOLD HIS BEST MIDFIELDER AND BEST STRIKER SO NO WONDER THEY DROPPED DOWN THE TABLE. CLEARLY U KNOW VERY LITTLE.

Anon 17:02 - Hmmm big writing. What happened at Crystal Palace then eh?? Ask their owner what he thinks about Bruce. Clearly YOU know very little.

maybe the big writing is there too try and get you to understand (supernumbersix) or don't you remember saying that yourself recently?

Two points:
1) Quinn in no way humiliated Sbragia on Sunday, Sbragia was in to do one thing and one thing only, keep Sunderland in the Premiership. He was never going to be a longer term appointment than that.

2) Steve Bruce is a strong candidate for the job, and would have finished considerably higher this season had he not been forced to sell two of his best players in January.

I'm not hugely in favour of Bruce being appointed, but he's a manager with a lot of experience, and the potential to step up and manage a bigger club than Wigan.

LOL Bruce left Birmingham 4th from bottom having played a game more than the sides beneath them. I suppose 4th from bottom is a great position if you are a Sunderland supporter - it's 3 places higher than your usual finishing position! Look at your nose bleed when you climbed to 5th from bottom this year! Funny, West Ham parted company with Bellyache and lost half the team to injuries but still had a better second half of the season than Wigan. But hell, Bruce is obviously a great manager! I suppose he doesn't support Newcastle 1702?

Durham Boy, Sbragia was in tears on National TV as Quinn said that Blunderland needed a "bigger man" for the job. That's not humiliation? I'm surprised he didn't urinate all over him for good measure! Shameful way to treat a loyal employee.

Anon 17:17 - You don't have to write big for me to understand thanks. I know exactly what happened to Brucie whilst at Brum and more recently at Wigan. So he lost his best striker, big deal, so did we. Bellamy sold, Ashton injured all season, Cole injured quarter of the season. Take your pick.

I also know how he behaved with Palace and you can throw as many insults as you like, I still don't like him.

HAMMERSFAN!
Your knowledge of football astounds me it really does. But i wonder what the REAL reason is why you hate bruce eh?
Wouldn't have anything to do with that cheating, robbing, should of been relegated to the conference shower of a team you support being slated by Steve Bruce's chairman would it?
Naaah didn't think it would!!!!!

Anon 18:02 - hahahahahaha !! Love the way you came in with that!! Top!! In your dreams mate, in your dreams!! No we ain't lovers. (only of WHU).
I've not much on today, so I've been on here lots. I just happen to enjoy this blog. Unlike alot of contributors, I don't have a problem with HF's opinions and happen to agree with alot of them. Not all, I hasten to add. I log onto many WHU sites and I find most a bit dull and unchallenging truth be told.
We might be on the same wavelength sometimes, but sorry to disappoint, we ain't lovers!!

supernumbersix, I'm heartbroken! I thought you were the one. Well, the six obviously! ; ) (What a sad reply from 1802! Straight off the playground!)

1804, I have nothing against Bruce, apart from his moaning about referees. I actually liked his comments after our game at Wigan, saying the ref had got it wrong sending off Cole and making no attempt to defend Cattermole. But he was moaning about Neill being sent off too. I loved the way MOTD embarrassed him by showing that a full minute and three phases of play had passed between a supposed foul on a Wigan player and Chelsea netting - and it wasn't a foul anyway! My point is not that Bruce is an idiot, though some think he is, but that he is not the "Big Name" that Quinn led us to expect.

have you been to a playground recently?

Sunderland's interest in appointing Steve Bruce as their new manager receded on Wednesday as Ellis Short's buy-out was confirmed.

On the day it was officially announced that the Irish-American businessman is to take complete control of the club in which he bought a 30% stake last year, the Black Cats took a step back in their efforts to find a replacement for Ricky Sbragia.

Wearside woke to claims that a compensation package, amounting to anywhere between £3million and £5million, which would allow Bruce to leave current club, Wigan, had already been agreed. But the Black Cats privately insisted they were nowhere near that stage, and their stance hardened as sources in the north-west prematurely claimed the Black Cats had been given permission to talk to the former Manchester United defender.

Sbragia is a dour, incompetent, waste of space, who was never going to be the man to take the club forward. If Quinn did anything he did the honourable thing and put him out of his misery. Acting as quickly as he did was vital to set the club up for the summer's transfer business, drawing a line under Sbragia's truly terrible reign and allowing everyone to move on.

I haven't no. I haven't been to church for a while either but I know the Bible when I hear it. Derrrrrr!

Gordon Zola (great name!), there are conflicting reports out there. My money is on Bruce getting the job.

Durham Boy - 24 hours was all that was needed. Let Sbrabia take a few plaudits for avoiding the drop. It was Keane that bought the overpriced rubbish remember, not Ricky. He is just the fall guy!

"Ellis’s involvement to date also enabled us to turn down a club-record bid of up to £20 million for Kenwyne Jones from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window." It is also rumoured that the new owner currently has negotiators in Madrid on hand to speak with Juande Ramos regarding the vacant top job at the Stadium of Light

Leaving it for 24 hours would have simply dragged it out, better to do it as quickly as possible, and get it over with. Keane had bought some excellent players, we've actually got the best squad I've ever seen, it was the gross mismanagement by Sbragia which had us fighting for our lives on the final day. As far as being a loyal employee goes, it was Sbragia himself who was agitating when Keane's time in charge was ending, which hardly speaks volumes for his loyalty.

Hammersfan said...

LOL Durham, where were you in the table when Keane left? Bottom three wasn't it? How much did he pay for your reserve keeper? £6m for McCartney? Well he is Irish I suppose! Does he pray to the Virgin Mary though? Not sure! £8m for Anton? How much for the barrel of lard? How much for the ex Newcastle reserve whose name I can't even remember? £6m wasn't it? And so it goes on! I tell you what, Keane made Curbishley look like an astute wheeler dealer!

You call Ricky Sbragia loyal and what not, but i'm 100% sure you would be criticising him had it not added to your argument of making Steve Bruce look bad. As you often say, it is easy to hurl criticisms at people, and your including yourself in that, as criticising Steve Bruce is fair enough, however look at the positives, he has an amazing capability of signing good players who attract the attention of big clubs, and has turned Wigan into a side who are putting up a fight in the premiership.

Bruce has done an ok job at Wigan. But his record away from Wigan? he is not the "Big Man2 Quinn seemed to be hinting at on Sunday.
