West Ham Failing To Learn From Old Mistakes In Transfer Market

Warnock and Pogatetz, I ask you! If it is a case of finding a warm live body, any warm live body, my Mum would just about qualify - though she has a chill and so can't go out at the moment. This nonsense has gone on for too long. Defenders win games just as much as forwards do.

We carried Lucash Neil for too long. We suffered with Upson for 12 months after his sell by date. We used Spector and Faubert at full back. We tried Bridge when he had long since tumbled down. We had Ben Haim, and the mighty MK Dons tore him apart at the weekend. And that's just scratching the surface!

But still the lesson has not been learned! God help us!

I know, but you've got to laugh,no really you've got to laugh. It could be worse armchair hammer. At least you don't part with any money to go and watch the shit defence.

Agreed. If we're not prepared / willing / able to sign real quality, just play the kids. Potts has done a good job at left back and at least the odd mistake or off performance is acceptable.

We don't learn from our mistakes. Totally agree with you.

Another instance of this is our willingness to let go, or at the very least not being able to keep, our best and proven players such as Diamme. Allowing Diamme to leave for a club such as Arsenal and Tottenham only to be a replacement for their starting midfielders when he can be a future captain for West Ham shows lack of ambition and bad management on our part at the very least.

I am sure that both Pogatetz and Warnock are last resort signings. Sam wanted Olsson from Blackburn at left back but was priced out of it. We can only afford loanees or free transfers right now. Beggars can't be choosers. Warnock at left back is better than NO recognised left back. With Collins out for a few weeks and Reid struggling with a groin injury we need cover.

Warnocks a bit old though, don't you think? But i suppose at 63 he could still do a better job. Anyway Potts is still in hospital, with a bad side.

Up until saturday and wednesday the defence hasn't been doing too badly for instance we kept Man U down to one goal. The problems have been at the other end with blatant chances of a goal being missed. If those chances had been taken like they should have been we wouldn't all be in the present panic. Diame has said he isn't going and I don't think he will. The players being brought in are probably just stop gaps until the tv money is available for better signings in the summer

@Sav (not jimmy I hope)

Re: Bad management.

How would you manage a player who gets offered more money to go to a bigger club. And as a bonus ensures that he won't be playing championship football next season.

WTF are you meant to manage exactly?

sav...oh yes that awsome "diamme" guy, he is that great you can't even spell his name, if he wants to leave after 6 month when quite frankly he was a noboddy before joining us then what good is he to us? pt him in a more structured team like arsenal and he wont last 5 minutes, he barely cut it at wigan before we made him. injured half of last season for wigan, injured this season for us and he has a heart condition. have we been that starved of any half decent players that we think diame is irreplacable!!

as for warnock, the guy is on a free and isn't any worse than linda so why not

Sav - there is nothing we can do about Diame. He's got the 3.5 mio release clause in his contract and it seems his agent is desperate for him to leave. The club knew about the release clause when they signed him on a free. Back then you couldn't tell how he'd perform in our team, he could have turned out as another Dyer as well. Sure it sucks if we lose him and the timing could be much better but just get over it and stop whining. The club tried to tie him down on a new contract without the release clause and an additional 10k a week but if he doesn't fancy it there is nothing we can do about it.

I think you'll find the correct spelling of his name is Diame,do any of you lot actually go to games or do you all take turns sitting on the armchair hammers knee as he watches the game from the house? Clueless twats.

To all you guys attacking me for my comments about Diame (sorry about the spelling error by the way - I never argued that he is famous, only competent and I rather get a name wrong rather than an English word), the point is this.Plain and simple.

We are a famous London club with a lot of ambition about the future. We are still in a good position in the League and moving into the Olympic stadium in a few years. Why is it possible for clubs with a lot less resources than us to secure good quality players that make a difference (e.g. Everton - see Fellaini, Jelavic, Baines etc.), while we bring in only players that no-one else is too keen to have?

What makes a difference is not how many players you bring in but rather whether you can source and keep first team quality players who can take us up a level. Whatever Diame does or wants, I can't accept that our owners and manager cannot persuade a relatively unknown but proven good player that his future lies with us. Exit clause or not.

And if we cannot do this with Diame, I don't see how we will ever be able to build a team that competes with Arsenal, Tottenham or even Everton.

I hope I have made myself clear for all now.

Kevin in Manchester writes..

Now come on HF. You recently praised Sam for his perspicacity in the transfer market, a skill that pre-dates his time at WHU. Don't lose the faith now. At central defence beggars can't be choosers when there is a limit on cash to sign new players and a dearth of central defenders with sufficient experience to do the job.

As for Warnock, not sure that he isn't good enough it is more that Lambert hasn't picked him which, given how Villa's defence has played this term, could say more about Lambert's judgement than Warnock's ability.

I suggest we wait and see before declaring Pog and Warnock to be useless stiffs.Sam hasn't made too many transfer cock ups and I trust him to keep up the good work.

Well you missed out on Warnock...The other Warnock got him. I guess he preferred to play for a Championship team on the up rather than the Sad sinking Hammers...

So sav,you know when you're in the sauna with armchair hammer, stani and the "head"master? Do you hit them with the twigs?

Anonymous said...

pity you cant compete with the power of GFH!

Anonymous said...

Oh dear, not good is it when your prime transfer targets constantly turn you down to play for Leeds in the championship? With Diouf and Warnock thats now 2 such rejections in a matter of weeks.

I know we're clearly still a much bigger club than West Ham but, come on, 2 targets is taking the piss a bit though isn't it? At least give us some competition.

I can see why you're hiding away today. The embarrassment !!

Warnock snubs West Ham for Leeds United ;)

Anonymous said...

Well today is certainly a red letter day for west ham united isn't it? I mean i ask you, premier league club tries to sign a left back who is clearly past his sell by date as far as the top flight is concerned, but the left back opts for a championship club instead. But to add to the confusion the premier league clubs manager already thought he'd signed the left back. Arse and elbow spring to mind once again. Oh the humiliation.

Even shit has-been's / never-were's would rather drop a division than sign up to the West Ham way.

Love the contract length spin from Sam. Warnock's obviously looking long term and at least snubbing the Hammers gives him a chance of premiership football next season.

Hope HF is gonna grow a pair and respond to this news. Can't wait.

Well that's northerners for you. Thick as pig shit the lot of them.

Brilliant! David Gold said that West Ham have now withdrawn the offer which raises the wages of Diame from 40 to 50 thousand. Moreover, Sam has made sure to fine him for being late in the 7.00am meeting. If that is not pushing him out the door, I don't know what is!
