Bolton's Davies Worthy of England Call Up

On the basis that Macbeth is described as worthy, after unseaming Macdonald from the nave to the chaps and bathing in reeking wounds on the battlefield, it seems appropriate to describe the inclusion of Bolton's bruiser, Kevin Davies, in Capello's squad by using the very same word. Some see him simply as a footballing thug, but they forget that Thiery Henry, no less, once described the Bolton man as the best forward in the Premiership. And I think Henry was including himself in the also rans!

Outside of Bolton, Davies seems to have few admirers, but his critics fail to appreciate his intelligence, guile, power and movement. West Ham fans should not have any difficulty in understanding what Davies brings to the table, and it is not just bruises. The truth is, he is always on the move and occupying areas of the pitch that make it very difficult to mark him. At times, he appears to be playing left wing, next he has dropped almost to the half way line, then he is in the traditional centre forward position, then he has pulled wide right. When he has the ball he is like a bull - strong, powerful, pig headed - but surprisingly skilful. When Henry called him the best, Davies wasn't scoring goals, but now he has added finishing to his repertoire too and with his movement, he will be an ideal foil for Rooney and Gerrard if included in the starting line up.

It is a shame that Davies has not been given his chance earlier - I called for him to be taken to the World Cup. At 33, he is nothing more than a stop gap, called up because of injuries to others. But I would love to see him given his chance because he deserves it. Don't believe me? Ask Thierry Henry!

Filthy thug...but it's ok when he's on our side. Very useful, irritatingly so.

Sorry to stray off the subject, but i'm watching West Ham Liverpool reserves and Sears is having a blinder! McCarthy looks crap, Spence looks good, Boffin looks like a mistake waiting to happen. Our reserves aren't bad.

Trouble is, Liverpool's first team can't beat Blackpool so their stiffs can't be up to much! Sears hasn't scored I see! Still, do feed back how it goes in the second half. How are you watching it?

had a stream on p2p. McCarthy looks so unfit, but he can hit a penalty! Sears really did have a good game, he deserves a place on the bench against Wolves. We look solid defensively against a Liverpool team who have some bright prospects. Good that we have a winning mentality throughout the whole team now, I do believe it will help the team overall.

I agree with Stani, he is a filthy thug. We all know that.

He is everything we all hate about football today. And yet, some people praise and admire him. What is there to admire HF? That he is dirty and has learned all the tricks that make Allardyce's and Coyle's anti football tactics possible?

Winning is not everything you know. I rather lose a game than win with such a disgrace of a player in my team. The has absolutely no morals.

But you are forgetting one very important fact. His tactics don't work with non-English referees! His limited usefulness is therefore confined only within the Premier League.

The last picture I have of him is kicking poor Upson in the teeth, almost knoking him unconscious and making him score an own goal. And guess what, our great fan HF, is an admirer of this guy!!!

My image is Davies terrorising our defence in game after game after game. Upson's face shouldn't have been at knee height should it? Davies was fully entitled to go for the ball and would have connected had Upson not put his mug in the way.

Coyle is certainly not a proponent on anti football. He has transformed Bolton since he arrived although, sadly, we are so vulnerable to route one that he reverted to the crude tactics of Megson and Allardyce in the second half. That was just sensible management.

West Ham fans are jealous of Davies. Had he been a West Ham player, he would have been a cult figure in the style of Dicks, Bonds, Repka, Cross and Hartson. We have had our bully boys too and the fans at Upton Park adored them!

What nonsense! Who got to the ball first? Upson headed the ball and Davies kicked his face! There is no law not allowing someone to head the ball when it is below head hight!

You know, I get the impression sometimes, that you try to be provocative on purpose HF. I don't know whether it is personality trait or just a ploy to get people to respond to your nonsense. I don't think it worth responding to state the obvious anymore.

As far as who is Coyle by the way can I remind you that he was Allardyce's right hand when the latter invented the art of anti-football. And please don't put any West Ham player (past or present) in the same category as the "paid assassin" you seem to admire so much!

I just can't comprehend how anyone who likes to pose as a West Ham supporter has so much praise and admiration for a **** like Davies, not to mention for Tottenham and their dirty manipulating tactics against West Ham.

I am finally begginning to understand why so many passionate West Ham supporters had just about enough of you and your negative comments about their beloved club.

Disagree with Sav & Stani, Hammersfan is right - if Davies was a WH player he deinitely would be a hero along the lines he mentions - the Hartson comparison is particularly apt., although for me Repka was just a clogger - no doubt that made him a 'cult' figure for some, altho how they square that with the "west ham way" is not clear. Still, for a real savage & OTT 'tackler' just check legbreaker De Jong...

HF, It is not like you to censor comments from anyone, especially from me.

I am still waiting to see two posts I have made on this page. It is more than 10 hours now!

Apologies Sav. We had a deadline to reach today to land a very very large contract. I've had a hell of a day. Just walked through the door and the wife has said, "Bloody typical, straight on that blog!" She has had to wait in line so I can post yours and Stani's and others' comments. I haven't bloody eaten yet!

Sav said...

Apologies for my last comment. I should know better that censoring is not in your character. "Annoying people" however seems to be in your DNA.

Anyway, 18:33, I maintain that Davies is a b*****d executing a crime on the pitch. Hartson was always a gentleman, nothing premeditated, just playing tough. I may not like the latter, but I can learn to live with it; no way I will praise or even condone the former.

trouble in paradise eh HF?

Me Sav? Annoy people? How can you say such a thing?

Hammersfan said...

Not now mate. We have landed a contract for the 2020 Mars mission. Mega bucks!

Sav said...

Will they send you to Mars HF? Interesting! Just kidding.

Perhaps Gold and Sullivan should apply for the Olympic stadium there after terraforming the planet in the year 22000. We can always say we were there first. We had HF claiming the planet for us in 2020.
