Winston Reid - No New Zealand Lamb In Danish Bacon Clothing!
(Article submitted by Zito)
As a West Ham fan for many, many years - and a Kiwi - I believe I can speak from a unique perspective on this issue.
Winston Reid was selected at Danish age-group level right through the youth system. He became eligible for his alternative nationality, New Zealand, when FIFA relaxed the rules last year. Had the rules not been changed he would have pursued his former goal of representing Denmark at full senior level - a task well within the lad's ability.
Reid made his NZ debut during a pre-World Cup friendly. He impressed to the extent that he was preferred for New Zealand's opening WC game against Slovakia; he scored the dramatic late equaliser in that game, impressed everyone against the Italians and also Paraguay, against whom he marked the dangerous Nelson Valdez.
Still just 22, Reid has bags of potential and there has been plenty of interest in him since the WC. Just because he (only) represented New Zealand at the WC and (only) plays league football in Denmark ought not to colour your thinking about this lad. Ryan Nelson of Blackburn anyone?
You can bet that he will give West Ham his absolute all when he is given his chance as that is the Kiwi way. Players from our part of the globe good enough to play in the Premier League are rare - those Kiwis and Aussies that ply their trade in the toughest league in the world have worked bloody hard to get there and work just as hard to stay in it.
Reid is also a fantastic, down-to-earth lad who will be a great team-man. What more do West Ham fans want? Give the lad, and Avram, a chance - Reid could prove to be a brilliant signing!

HF - Using someone else's comment from a previous thread won't make people believe that you are actually a Hammer at heart.
Perhaps if you'd done your research first before having a pop at what you thought was a mediocre signing from a mediocre league, then you wouldn't find yourself in the position of having to take a u-turn using someone else's information.
That is unless you are just trying to be balanced and actuall still want to chastise this guy before he's even kicked a ball for us.
People like you make are bad for this club and can make us seeem a laughing stock.
At least give the guy a chance. Like a poster on a previous thread mentioned - Hannu Tihinen - was an unknown and set the Boleyn Ground alight.
Bloody Finns, arsonists to a man!
He looked useful, he hardly set the Boleyn alight! Average defender yes, Tevez he was not!
Zito, if you look in, why wasn't Reid picked for the Danish national team and, if good enough, why did he opt to play for New Zealand instead? That's an odd choice isn't it?
What rule needed to be relaxed to enable him to qualify for New Zealand? I'm tempted to make a racist joke at the expense of the people of New Zealand here but I will resist and leave that to the Aussies!
This is disgraceful, you are a racist pig. I am a Finn and I have never set anything alight, not even a cigarette because I do not smoke! You are an embarrassment to our club. I wouldn't be surprised if the Finish branch of the West ham Supporters Club was now finished. I bet all my fellow Finns will now support Spurs, all because of you.
Kevin manchester writes..
Remy jetting in to sign for Stoke !!! God he must really hate us..
Ryanair to East Midlands Airport no doubt. If he is bad enough to join Stoke, I think we have had a lucky escape!
I have a good feeling about Reid and I find the article interesting.
And stop insulting people and races HF. How do you manage this every time? I know you don't mean it (when you say something similar to me about the Greeks) but don't expect everyone to be so understanding.
West Ham may be an English club but it has supporters world-wide. They all count and we should be careful not to offend anyone. I am proud we have Finn supporters and all the West Ham supporters around the Globe.
Ha! You backtracking moron.
Why not include the bit where he calls you ignorant and dresses you down?
0922 brilliant!!!! hahahahahahaha YOU ARE SO RIGHT - HF really did mug himself on that one!
Here it is in full - the non edited version - where HF gets called ignorant.
HF, you have jumped all over this story without checking your facts. Ignorant emotion dressed up as knowledge is dangerous, damaging, and does you little credit.

Yes, it is on the Avram Spending Big post. I haven't removed it. But happy to carry it here too. Of course, if I was Dale, I would delete it and ban Zito
Mug myself? How do you do that then? Punch yourself in the face and steal your own mobile phone?
Did it occur to you that perhaps he meant you've mugged yourself off? as it certainly looks that way from where I am sitting.
