Avram Spending Big In Bargain Basement Stores

We were promised a "young international who represented his country with distinction at the World Cup" and have ended up with a Kiwi who sounds like he has been bought from a bargain basement clothing retailer in Snow White!

Have you ever heard of FC Midtjylland? I'm not having that they are a genuine football team! I don't ever remember seeing them as an option for a pre season friendly on Championship Manager! A combination of Matalan and Midget Land? It sounds like somewhere Santa would go shopping for his little helpers!

£4 million must be a King's ransom to that lot! Tell me, if this guy Winston Reid is worth having, what was he doing playing for a no mark club in Denmark? I have faith in Avram but I have this nagging worry that Spector may look good compared to this guy! I hope to God I am wrong!

Ive heard its 1.5m with add ons depending on performances... Could go either way, great deal or major flop but i have faith in A vram.Apparantly the Kiwi manager picked him for the squad without seeing him play. He shone in a few of the qualifiers so went to the WC where he put in some solid games. From what im getting from a few Kiwis he is one for the future ! He may of only played for a 2nd rate Danish clud but hes 22, Im praying this is a fairytale story for him and us !

Ok, I admit, I have never heard of FC LegoLand or whatever their name is but I do have to say I did see a boit of Reid in the World Cup and he wasn't half bad! He was probably one of the best players in The New Zealand team, but that's not saying much!

The only problem is that he is a CB, it has been stated that he can play across the back! Maybe he can but natively he is a CB. we don't need CB's, we have Tomkins who can stand step up! We need a RB to replace he that I shaln't name!

But come on for an initial outlay of a million or so, it has to be a punt worth taking!

Also, it has been noted today that remy is being very patient with his club but he is about to gve them an ultimatum as he wants to play in England and apperently he wants to play for West Ham.

Again you manage to astound. Your ignorance has no boundaries. It is a decent team from another country. Would you like all players to start playing for clubs that you know about? Shall we just narrow it down to 20? You are a moron of the highest calibre.

HF, you have jumped all over this story without checking your facts. Ignorant emotion dressed up as knowledge is dangerous, damaging, and does you little credit.

As a West Ham fan for many, many years - and a Kiwi - I believe I can speak from a unique perspective on this issue.

Winston Reid was selected at Danish age-group level right through the youth system. He became eligible for his alternative nationality, New Zealand, when FIFA relaxed the rules last year. Had the rules not been changed he would have pursued his former goal of representing Denmark at full senior level - a task well within the lad's ability.

Reid made his NZ debut during a pre-World Cup friendly. He impressed to the extent that he was preferred for New Zealand's opening WC game against Slovakia; he scored the dramatic late equaliser in that game, impressed everyone against the Italians and also Paraguay, against whom he marked the dangerous Nelson Valdez.

Still just 22, Reid has bags of potential and there has been plenty of interest in him since the WC. Just because he (only) represented New Zealand at the WC and (only) plays league football in Denmark ought not to colour your thinking about this lad. Ryan Nelson of Blackburn anyone?

You can bet that he will give West Ham his absolute all when he is given his chance as that is the Kiwi way. Players from our part of the globe good enough to play in the Premier League are rare - those Kiwis and Aussies that ply their trade in the toughest league in the world have worked bloody hard to get there and work just as hard to stay in it.

Reid is also a fantastic, down-to-earth lad who will be a great team-man. What more do you want HF? Give the lad, and Avram, a chance.

Thought the kid had a first rate World Cup, it also shows the depth of scouting the club is accomplishing at the moment. Best pre-season I can remember.

Top marks the IRONS!

NZ were the only team not to lose at the world cup. If only we could say that about West Ham last season. Or even better, the coming one. He's a good, very solid player.

HF - Basic Wiki search would inform you that:

"On the pitch the Club has been runner-up twice in the Danish Cup final, and finished second twice and third twice in the Superliga.

The best international result was in the 2002–03 season, where the team reached the 2nd qualifying round of the UEFA cup, but lost to RSC Anderlecht of Belgium.

On 14 Aug 2008 they beat Manchester City 1–0 in Manchester, in the 2nd Qualifying Round 1st leg of the UEFA cup. It was Manchester City's first ever loss at home to a foreign team, having only ever lost at home in European Competition to Chelsea. Manchester City won the return leg in Denmark 1–0 after Danny Califf scored a last minute own-goal. Neither team was able to score in extra time and Midtjylland eventually lost the tie on penalties."

I think if you actually looked on the positive side of things for once you might see that a world cup goal scoring centre back is going to put pressure on Da Costa, Upson Ban Haim and Tomkins and can only go some way to improving our defence. Personally I think he could be our second choice centre back over Da Costa, Ben Haim and Tomkins (subject to Upson staying of course).

Good business I think.

Remember Tihinen, who was universally praised in 2001 and most wanted us to buy him, who came from an unfashionable club (Viking Stavanger) and played for an unfashionable country (Finland) went on to represent Anderlecht (also in an unfasionable country - Belgium) in the Champions League group stages.

Before you come back with anything negative - to get to the group stages is a task in itself and look at the way Celtic have failed.

Personally, I think you should give this blog up mate. So many people find you negative and irrelevant. Go have a look at Kumb or WHO where the real fans are - and are positive (most of the time). Perhaps some of it may just brush off on you?

A "young international who represented his country with distinction at the World Cup" - I think that's exactly what we're getting. What were you expecting FFS? We're not even a UEFA Cup club at this stage, so to get the players in that we have so far is, IMHO, quite a major coup.

PS: They are on Football Manager PPS: What's wrong with Matalan? ;-)

There is no point to this signing!

From the Danish leage to PL is a huge step up!

What is the point of wasting money when he will be a squad player at best!

I reckon we will loaned out stright away.

I would rather G&S tone down there announcements on whufc.com and stop misleading the loyal fans

0835 I can see why you come here, you are almost a clone of HF. Did you not read the previous posts, imbecile?

hahahaha HF you got this one mightily wrong..... were you on the Chardonnay again?

I so love it when you're made to look an arse - I suspect like me, that's why more people come here.

Good reply Zito, I've carried it as a main article.

As for some of you guys, did you REALLY think that article was serious? Of course I could pop over to Wikipedia! But it is a silly sounding name isn't it?

Thor The Pig Farmer said...

You racist git. I'm Danish. Midgetmatalan is not a funny name, it's the name of a Danish region. Don't you understand how hurtful it may be to see the name of where you live ridiculed? How would you like it if people took the micky out of the name West Ham. We are only called West Ham because of the Vikings who came from...you've got it, Denmark! Our club name comes from Norse you ignoramus! You are an embarrassment to our club. I wouldn't be surprised if the Danish Supporters Branch of West Ham now closed down with all my fellow Danes becoming Spurs fans instead, all because of you! And no, we won't come round and rape and pillage Bracknall in revenge. THAT is another popular racist misconception. The word Viking in old Norse simply meant "expedition overseas". The Vikings were a sophisticated people who were the victims of genocide at the hands of the much more vicious Normans. So, no jokes about pig farmers because that's probably the occupation of your ancestors if your family really comes from Newham which I very much doubt!"

Is that Grumpy from the Org with his arms folded in that picture?

Pig farmer (9:34)

Interesting article and you are quite right to run HF through the bacon slicer for his blog.

I had not realised that "Ham" would have been a medieval name for a pig farming area. In Shakepeare's time sheep were kept at "Shepherd's Bush". I was wondering what might have been going on at "Totten-ham"?

Anonymous said...

Then there is "Bucking-ham". Perhaps the name has been mis-spelt slightly over the years?

Hammersfan said...

It is short for hamlet you idiots! As for Thor's article, did you honestly not understand that I wrote it as a piss take? Dear God, how stupid are you? And I did check out Vikings on Wikipedia first! Derrrrrrr!!!!!

Oh and I am Tiet Finish too!
