Get Off Curbishley's Back (Says Phil The Tinker)

Fanno, what are you on about?

I remember Curbs palming off the credit to the players after every match, praising their performances. Pardew was taking us down and Curbs kept us up, and yet you still prefer Pardew; why?

Curbs didn't play attractive football but at the end of the day, during the great escape, were you really concerned with our style of play or just picking up the results?

The next season we gave him a chance to get us mid table security, and although it was one hell of a boring season, he did it. This season he couldn't take us further in the opinion of pretty much everyone, but he did exactly what was asked. Why continue to bombard him with insults?

I wasn't a happy hammer under Curbs, but we achieved what we needed to. What has Pardew gone on to do? Nothing! Don't get me wrong I loved Pardew as a personality and he got us up and into the FA Cup final, two things I will never forget, but the man was taking us down to the fizzy pop league.

Maybe you should drop some grudges and look at things realistically. You like looking at stats, maybe you should look at the one important stat, we are still in the Premier League. If you are writing a book on this, you really need to become more receptive to other people's opinions otherwise your entire book is going to be one sided and never get published.

As I said earlier last season, I didn't enjoy last season because we were a boring team, but I think the reason we were so boring is because there was nothing to get worked up about. Look at it like this:

Season 1 - Relegation
Season 2 - Lose Play off final
Season 3 - Win Play off final
Season 4 - FA Cup Final
Season 5 - Fight for our lives in a relegation dog fight
Season 6 - Nothing
This Season fighting for Europe.

So was it the football that was boring or the season? Look at things from more than one perspective for a change otherwise you will never become an author.

Phil, Hitler got his book published, I don't remember the chapter, "On the other hand, the Jews contribute hugely to German society"! Just a thought mate. Thanks for the contribution, keep them coming! I think you are wrong of course, but everyone is entitled to an opinion on here! Unlike or the mordant org!

Dear God Phil, don't let the Yanks know where I am! Guildford will be wiped off the map if you let that secret slip!

Curbishley was/is a poor manager, out of time, out of ideas and thankfully out of our club. One fact you could consider is that until those rampaging last nine games, Curbs' points per game ratio was LOWER than Pards'. And he also presided over the 0-6 at Reading and 0-4 at Charlton, two performances far worse than any under Pardew. Things turned round in the Great Escape season in spite of Curbs, and not because of him. He dropped Green and refused to start with Noble and Tevez, and only when public pressure (and injuries) pushed him into playing them did we start to gel as a team. Add to that the fact that the players got together (led by Lucas Neill) and decided they needed to pull their collective finger out, and the performances improved pretty much overnight.

The fact is that Curbs' lost the dressing room very soon after his arrival and the longer he stayed, the more damage he was doing. The players loathed him - the clues have been there for a while and more are now starting to come out with some of the more oblique references in interviews.

One last thing - no other West Ham manager has ever had sung at him 'Too F**king Negative'.

I don't see clubs kicking down his door to employ him. Why's that then?
