A slip of the tongue or a short circuit into the guy's subconscious? Why is he back exactly? To save the club or to perpetuate the myth that, like Keegan, King Al can walk on water?
It is high time the Geordies checked out the story of King Canute. The tide will come in no matter who orders it not to. Shearer, as ever, is looking after number nine, looking for personal glory and adulation. If he had really had the interests of the club at heart, he would have stepped in as soon as Keegan left, or when Kinnear was rushed into hospital. Trouble is, he could then have been judged and might have been deemed a failure. Now, if the Loony Toons go down, everyone will say, "What chance did he stand, there were only 8 games left when he took over and the transfer window was closed."
Ginola was on the radio this morning and talking about how boring Shearer was as a person. He termed him a "winner on the pitch" but suggested that he was uninspiring in the dressing room. Well he can't bang in the goals from the dug out so it is his ability to motivate in that dressing room that will now count. He sends me to sleep as soon as he starts droning on MOTD so I can't see how he is going to get anybody fired up personally. He reminds me of Curbishley - boring, boring, boring. Tell me, how often does the return of an ex player as manager signal success? Not often! But why does that matter, if it doesn't work, it won't be Alan's fault will it?
It is Heads Al wins, Tails Al wins. And Newscastle? The castle doesn't count, it is only the King that matters!

Newcastle are only trying the same thing as Wet Spam did with Trevor Brooking so what are you moaning about. They have absolutely nothing to lose by appointing Shearer because under the leadership of Hughton Calderwood and co they were definitely getting relegated anyway.

Not moaning mate, commenting. I have a £20 double on Newscastle being relegated and England winning the World Cup - it pays £1200. Nothing personal but I hope he fails because of my bet!
I've been a Newcastle fan for every one of my 280 dog years and I've seen us in worse trouble than this. I was at the Arsenal match a few weeks back and the Houghton/Calderwood pairing were woeful. If we'd stuck with them then we were down. The Shearer effet might, just might, be worth a vital extra two points come the end of the season. I'd like to think big Al has come in now because a) he was asked and b) because he couldn't sit back and watch us go down. Toon fans aren't beer swilling, dole signing, Keegan worshipping neanderthal's as much as the southern half of England want to believe us to be but we do know our football, we know what's good for our team and right now it is Alan Shearer.

Anon, I was in Ladbrokes in Newcastle for the Grand National that never was. Two guys had money on the horse that "won it". As an ex bookie, I was tempted to tell them half way through the race that the bets wouldn't be settled but I thought better of it. We left as a stool was hurled at the bandit screen! I know that isn't typical of all Geordies, I play footy with one and have enjoyed many beers in foreign climes with very sociable holiday makers from your Northern outpost. I'm not sure you do know much about football though. Your hearts always seem to rule your heads!
So, you follow up your rediculous claim to the effect that Shearer accepting a job at a club he loves is selfish with a rather ignorant observation that Geordies are ignorant, thick yobs? Anymore insightful regional stereotypes to enlighten us with?
strange because in the telegraph in January Ginola championed shearer for the job saying he had all the attributes for the role and was a great guy.

All power to the Geordie's and if it works then good for them. It all adds up to a crazy 2008-09 season in the Premiership with further twists in the tail. If West Ham had got Brooking in earlier that season they probably would have stayed up because Roeder was taking them down for sure. He couldn't motivate a group of five year olds to play pass the parcel.
Personally think with Owen around who's got a point to prove to the England boss - its very possible and its not like they are on low points like Boro or WBA -

Why didn't he return earlier if he thinks he is the man to save your club? For the record, I said, "I know that isn't typical of all Geordies, I play footy with one and have enjoyed many beers in foreign climes with very sociable holiday makers from your Northern outpost." The anecdote about my visit to Newcastle was true. It is the one and only time I have been in your city and, on the eve of the National, it is a sharp memory. It happened, I am not talking about a stereotype but a real person who threw the stool.
