Oi Arry shut it! (Hotshot’s rant)
Harry Redknapp's comment that the current bunch of West Ham graduates aren’t in the same league as the former ones he managed, and the comment that the club should never have sold the former players, must have boosted his ego, while denting a few on route. I don’t think he’ll be getting wedding invites from the current graduates: Tomkins, Collison, Stanislas, or Sears anytime soon.
Of the four, the first two are potentially world class, showing immense talent, Tomkins is comparable with Rio Ferdinand, and Collison with Michael Carrick, both playing the same positions respectively while displaying maturity beyond their years, as did their former counterparts. Their manager Zola commented, defending the young players, saying that the world is their oyster, if only they keep applying themselves!
Although Rio Ferdinand always showed great poise and skill, when he was first thrust into the West Ham first team, many will remember that he was quite often prone to bad positioning and basic mistakes – which many put down to a lack of concerted concentration; in contrast Tomkins has shown, even at this early stage, that he doesn’t suffer the same problems. By this reasoning it could be argued that Tomkins has the potential to become a better player than Ferdinand, and arrive there sooner in his career.
Collison like Carrick shares the same unassuming personality off the pitch, but on it he shows great maturity, confidence, and skill. As Zola put it “he plays like a veteran”. The Welsh national team manager is in agreement, putting him in the team at only nineteen years of age, nutmegging Capello in the process.
Not being the media’s, or fellow manager’s, favourite, suspected of dodgy dealings, then being cleared, then being accused by a number of managers of tapping up players, publicly saying that he wanted several rival team’s contracted players, why would Harry Redknapp make this kind of comment? And more puzzling who’s working on his PR team - Salmon Rusdie? It seems his comments are a self publicity stunt.
Redknapp went on to say that he had scouted Lampard, Ferdinand, Carrick, Johnson, Joe Cole etc, which doesn’t seem credible seeing that Lampard jnr would have been there as a result of Lampard snr encouraging him to join the youth set up, and Joe Cole joining the club around the time Redknapp became club manager. Yes most of these players emerged while he was club manager, but surely it would have had more to do with the scouting and development of Tony Carr’ s academy team, and the current manager of that time - Billy Bonds?
Carr has brought through many of West Ham’s world class players of late, including Tony Cottee and Paul Ince, so when 'Arry Claptrap' talks about it being his doing, lets get it right – it’s the club’s tradition, and more recently ‘Carr’ that found and developed these players. Since providing England’s backbone to their world cup winning team, West Ham have never ceased to provide world class players in every decade – and one of them now sits on the board of the English Football Association, having been an ambassador for the game over the years – Sir Trevor Brooking.
Lastly and for the record ‘Arry’, didn’t the mass exodus, starting with Rio, begin when you were the manager, then turning into a flood after you got the boot for making a silly remark? Some would see this as mismanagement of a great resource, as could buying the player Marco Boogers - that went missing and was later found sulking in a Dutch caravan park. The team existed before Harry and I am sure will continue bringing immense talent through after him – Harry get over yourself.

As a Yid, I'm probably about as welcome as a fart in a space suit, but I gotta say, 'Arry has turned us around, but he does have a nasty habit of saying the wrong thing. I would also be happy if he buttoned it.
Spoken like a true, seething Spammers fan...Harry was probably just asked 'what do you think of the current crop of young talen at West Ham?' He probably gave an answer a long the lines of 'very good, young british talent'.. He was then probably asked, any comparison to the bunch that he had when he was in charge? then he probably responded with 'no, they were a very special bunch and what i've seen so far of the current bunch, there is no comparison whatsoever'.. all these reports are taken out of context. Anyone who believes word for word any 'media' interview is just a plain idiot!
'Arry's comments might be misjudged, but the attack that he sold Ferdinand is unfair.
After all - he was sacked because he told the board that if Rio was sold, all the money from the sale and more on top would be needed to buy new players just to stand still.
And he was probably right.
HARRY SOME TIMES SAYS THE WRONG THINGS BUT SINCE HE ARRIVED AT SPURS THE PRESSURE OF KEEPING A SQUAD OF UNDERACHIVERS UP IS BEGGINING TO TELL BECAUSE ITS NOW EVERT TIME HE OPENS IS MOUTH .THE ONLY TIME HE SAYS THE RIGHT THING IS WEN HE IS WITH SANDRA AND THE KIDS ON IS WII ADVERT . HE IS A LIKABLE MAN HAVING SAID THIS AND HPFULLY HARRY WILL SETTLE DOWN AND TAKE US UP UP AND AWAY FROM FULHAM EVERTON VILLA AND DARE I SAY IT WEST HAM .AND I THINK WE HAVE BETTER KIDS THAN WEST HAM CAULKER DERVITE HENVILLE BOSTOCK MASON TOWNSEND OBIKA PARRET ROSE TO NAME A FEW .
Anonymous, your claim that the media have taken his comments out of context, and then admitting that he probably said that the current bunch or incomparable, with the ones he apparently scouted and managed, goes to show that it's another misjudged comment. Harry Redknapp has diplomacy skills on par with Bin Laden....
tony cottee world class WTF!!!!!!!you must of bin high while doing this blog!that is the biggest piece of bullshit iv ever read lol
Regarding Tony Cottee not being world class, West Ham almost won the league with him and Frank Mcavennie playing up front, (scoring an average of a goal every two games, a statistic only reserved for the best strikers in the game)! Also you've obviously overlooked that he was sold on he was the most expensive player British football.... I rest my case.
Michael Carrick and Jack Collison are nothing like each other. They play very different positions and have very different qualities. Get it right mate.
For anon, above comment, referring to the players having different qualities and positions. Collison has shown with West Ham and Wales that he can play in any midfield position comfortably! Things they have in common, both can pick a long pinpoint pass from a distance, both are extremely tenacious, and have great technical skills... Do you want me to keep listing them....
Remember that uncle you had when you were a kid that you thought was great but every adult in the family rolled their eyes when his name was mentioned.
Thats Harry.
His track record is patch at best. He has always hogged all the credit when things go well and passed the buck when they dont. His claims of being responisble for Rio, Coley, Fat Frank, Carrick and other players is an insult to Tony Carr.
Why doesnt Harry hold his hands up and say sorry for all the muppets he signed while he was "developing" such incredible young talent.
His behaviour in the last transfer window was disgraceful, not just towards WestHam but other clubs as well. Whatever affection that was felt for him in the hearts of the footballing public as a likeable rouge was well and truely ended as he flapped about bursting to spend money and claiming every player wanted to play for him and getting his muppet of a son to make his case on sky tv.
Even the way about some of his spurs team after poor results shows the character, or lack their of, of the man.
I know spurs fans will defend him with the blind delusioned smugness that hallmarks them as fans but WestHam fans and for that fact Pompey fans and Southamption fans will sit and wait to see the state he will leave spurs in when his inevitable and acrimonious departure comes.
Harry's made some pretty patronising comments about his team in public, as Kinear did about N'zogbia calling him 'insomnia'.. which while funny to neutral fans probably isn't the best way of dealing with you team...
If you were a true West ham fan then you'd know that Rio started his career as an attacking midfielder, indeed even made his debut replacing Cottee at a time when Reiper and Bilic were on form. Comparisons with Tomkins therefore are way off the mark and show your lack of knowledge of your club. Bad mistakes and positioning? I think you may be getting mixed up with his kid brother.
London Red, even your own fans agree that he was error prone when arriving at man u (via further experience at leeds), suggest you continue being an exiled red (with a mixed up identity).... http://www.soccerpulse.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=200847&st=75
arry is just a chancer and or barrow boy, delete as applicable.this is the man who sold rio(after saying he would only be sold over his dead body)and made a nice little earner for himself and terry brown, offshore bank accounts etc(tom bowers book broken dreams will explain more).stabbed billy bonds in the back, signed suker, titi camara, rigobert song and countless other's on crazy wages, blamed everyone else when thing's went wrong etc.the man is a disgrace, this time next year spurs fan's will be calling for his head as he leave's yet another club in dissaray.
johnny, above, meant to write the word "allegedly" but was unable to edit his post after hitting "publish your comment" as the system does not allow for review once publication has been selected. All sorts of rumours centre around 'Arry but nothing has been proved. Some say, "There's no smoke without fire", others say, "Innocent until proven guilty". Still others say, "I will refer this to my lawyers"! We can say for sure that The signing of Camera, Song and others left a very bad taste in the mouth. We know that 'Arry left UP under some sort of cloud and performances on the pitch do not fully explain it given the traditional loyalty shown by West Ham to their managers. There are lots of rumours. 'Arry is a very wealthy man. The clubs he has managed are not so wealthy: Bournemouth and Soton in administration, Pompey close to it, West Ham bought out by an Icelandic banker (out of the frying pan into the fire!). Now, all this is probably coincidence. 'Arry is probably a straight down the line, honest geezer with none of the Arthur Daley about him. 'Arry is probably innocent of everything the BBC and the police may or may not have tried to pin on him. 'Arry is probably 100% honest. And Carlsberg is probably the best lager in the world. I just happen to prefer Stella.
I think that old arry is just saying that there were more quality kids coming through the ranks when he was incharge. I don't think the quality had dropped, but I do think that there is fewer of them coming through at this very moment. Maybe not in a few years, but now there is.
Sears, collison and tomkins are quality and I can't wait to see how their career progresses.
www.football-academy-life.com
I'm not convinced about Sears mate.
Football Academy Life, It was clear that Harry wasn't saying that there were fewer academy graduates, but that they were inferior quality and that he had manufactured the last bunch..... And I agree with Hammersfan that Sears at the moment doesn't look special at all, and if he wasn't from the academy we wouldn't have bought him for 5 mil etc as a great prospect....
