Tottenham's Gloats, Should I Get My Coat?

Amazing how depressed you can feel just because of a football match. Saturday night was ruined, Sunday morning and I woke with that, "Stuff it, what's the point?" feeling. But then I thought, hang on, this is West Ham, and how often have I felt like this since Christmas? And the answer to that, of course, is not very often. Yes we lost but, to be honest, I didn't really expect anything different when I saw the team sheet.

The reaction of the Tottenham fans has been predictably ridiculous. I have left the Tottenham replies on my LBM article despite the odd obscenity and the pikey jibes, because I wanted everybody to see just how sad and desperate some of these Cockyfools have become. Yes lads, you won! Yes you beat West Ham! But dear me, just pause for a moment and look at the West Ham team you beat! You edged out a side without Ashton, Cole, Dyer, Parker, Behrami, Collison, Gabbidon and Kovac. That is eight first team, first pick players. Add in Spector and the fact we had to play Neill in midfield and Tomkins at right back, and you get a sense of how desperate was the situation faced by Zola and Clarke. Turds moaned about the injury jinx but I can't remember so many first choice players being ruled out of a single game under Baggyeyes. Had Tottenham not beaten us, there would have been some massive questions asked about the 'Arry revival. And, to be honest, those questions should still be asked.

1-0? So what? Had Di Michele either taken a tumble as Woodgate tried to rugby tackle his ankle in the penalty box, or poked home that one-on-one opportunity, the result would probably have gone the other way. We know that Tristan and Di Michele are not good enough for the Prem, we know we have to get Ashton, Cole and Dyer fit and we still need another striker, so the fact we failed to score was no great surprise to anybody in Claret and Blue colours. Pavlova took his goal very well, it was a lovely turn and finish, but Green didn't exactly have a busy afternoon apart from that did he? For all the money spent, Tottenham looked pretty impotent considering they were playing against our stiffs!

So gloat away you Cockyfools but the result should really read Tottenham 1 West Ham Reserves 0. A one goal victory over our stiffs when you have home advantage doesn't look so great the following morning does it?

3 points is 3 points and it still looks good to me.

Hammersfan said...

Of course 3 points is 3 points and of course you are pleased with them. No argument there. We were pleased with 3 points against Blunderland but we didn't gloat in the same way about it!

Anonymous said...

this is a ridiculous argument offered by all west ham fans after the match....but in the build up to it, all we were hearing was west ham kids this, west ham kids that...its a weak excuse to pint out yesterdays team sheet, what about the team sheet when we done you at your place this season? what about the team sheet when we 'hammered' you 4-0 last time out at WHL...what about all the different team sheets in our domination over you in recent years?...so you can try find some comfort in your team sheet yesterday if that takes away some of the feeling you have, but the truth of the matter is we beat you yet again. as per usual. and all you are doing is offering another excuse.

Get yourselfs a squad then, you lot carry on about how Wet spam are on a par with spurs yet as you can see you are miles apart. No depth to your team aint our fault, bottom line is Your just a small team from Barking. Oh and i suppose we beat your reserves earlier on in the season as well?

Anonymous said...

Have alook at all the west ham forums in the build up to this match...there was far, far more bitter articles about spurs, with alot of them just jibes and nothing to do with the match..that is because this match meant so much more to west ham fans as it always does. ALWAYS...have alook at the white hart pain blog, and see the comments left by hammers after the match, because they couldn't take the same old result...and then what about the poor old hammers so enraged with another loss to spurs, they tried to "ave it" outside the ground yesterday....so please, please dont try to take the moral high ground.

your second cup final defeat this season must hurt. your big trip round the North Circ..29 years since you won anything apart from being one of 3 joint winners of the inter two bob cup

what bittereness by the author! "1-0 so what"...he talks about DDM 2 chances and it would of been a diffrent game....but you know what? if my aunt had bollocks she would be my uncle...if we finished our numerous chances in the first half it would of been alot higher scoreline, if robbie keanes goal bound shot wasn't cleared off the line, it would of been a different result...if, if , if , if.....if west ham has a squad, insyead of just a handful of decent players it might of been a different result...if if if if if...FACT:spurs 1-0 westham

Excuses, excuses excuses what a joke you lot are. You lot was bigging up wet spam before the game and after ANOTHER defeat you make excuses. Try and get yourselfs a squad of players and try not selling the better ones every five minutes.

Hammersfan said...

To the five above, thanks for looking in and keeping it decent. I did look in on the White Hart Pain blog and, in fact, left a message deploring the obscenities and racism from both sets of fans. That does no credit to either club. I would apologise on behalf of the West Ham morons who posted there but what's the point, they would not support the apology. Yes, there are some foul people who support West Ham, and there are some foul people who support Tottenham too, but let's not judge the two clubs on the basis of these morons eh?

With regard to the comments on the game and previous encounters, yes, Tottenham have had the better of the head to head battles lately but we have suffered incredible injury problems over the last 2 years. I will come back to you on how many players were ruled out from the 2-0 defeat at Upton Park and the 4-0 massacre at the Lane last season!

Anonymous said...

this article just makes me smile...the pain obviously lingers...can you imagine if the result was the other way round! can u imagine the west ham forums today! easter sunday gone...national pikey day in........this is just sour grapes from a lame old hammer. all the west ham blogs will run a similar story today, to try cover up the fact that our domination over them continues.

Hammersfan said...

LOL Your domination sees you a place below us in the table ... for now at least!

Anonymous said...

All just sour grapes. You haven't won at WHL in about 10 years, did you always have injuries? We have beaten you 6times in a row so give up with your excuses. We also played the whole second half with our second string centre mids.....You lost to Spurs again as usual get over it.

Anonymous said...

I thought the game was very entertaining, both sides played the ball on the deck, my 'Boro mate watched the game and really enjoyed the match. I would agree that it looks like West Ham have some squad building to improve next season, as injuries in these times are no longer a credible excuse. Spurs must do the same if they wish to improve, but the same can be said of every team in the league. As a Spurs supporter I admire Zola as a manager, and of coure am delighted with 'Arry, as we were definitely going down if he had not taken the reigns at WHL. For both sets of fans, let's look at the table at the END of the season, as that's the only table that counts....

Anonymous said...

Christ - say the hammers had won, how would they of reacted? They wouldn't shut up for weeks about it. And fair play: it's a London derby, and there is a mutual antipathy between the fans. Did you really expect Spurs to keep schtum?

Either way, GET INNNNN, great day, HANDBALL HANDBALL HANDBALL HANDBALL!

James147 said...

I've no interest in gloating - never have. It's always been glaringly obvious to me that as obsessed football fans, we all have much more in common than we have differences. I'm a Spurs fan and some of my best mates support West Ham, Arsenal and Chelsea. I think you have to keep things in perspective.

I thought West Ham did as well as could be expected yesterday given the team you were able to put out. But to be honest, I thought the scoreline didn't reflect Spurs' dominance.

Anonymous said...

So says the complete and utter pathetic excuse of a human being who GLOATED about beating an ILL team

Hahahah your shitty team lost once again and whether it is full team or understrength we always beat you and you cannot handle it so you have to resort to complete and utter nonsense!

Predictable excuses

'You edged out a side without Ashton, Cole, Dyer, Parker, Behrami, Collison, Gabbidon and Kovac'

Firstly, in the 2-0 defeat earlier on in the season, Cole, Parker & Behrami started. With Collison an unused sub. And you had Bellamy then. AND Faubert the Real Madrid legend.

Why you've included Dyer (who's played a grand total of 5 or 6 times since you've signed him) on the list is beyond me. Have you used this excuse every time you've lost over the last two years?

Has Gabbidon even played at all this season? If not it seems you've managed without him for 32 games.

Next we have Dean Ashton who's also missed nearly every match this season. Yet you've still managed.

Leaving us with the cruel, cruel absence of Czech superstar Radoslav Kovac....

Nuff Said

Without a win against any of the top 6 this season, West Ham fans can't really expect too much. Especially not a win against Spurs.

Dixon Bainbridge. said...

What a surprise West Ham didn't really lose, Spurs never beat you. Typical blinkered West Ham comment. By the way what's that Aussie soap called oh yeah home and Away.

bradhotspur said...

Yes injuries can disrupt a team and looking at your teamsheet yesterday I thought this is a match we should win and no excuses. However, football these days is a squad game and injuries just have to be covered. Yesterday the 11+subs representing Spurs beat the 11+subs representing West Ham. Simple as. Yes your guy should of scored but then again we should of scored given the two v one chance plus the clearance off the line at the end. Neither did, result 1-0. As much as I enjoyed the result I still would rather be up there fighting for a CL place than whether we finish above or below WH. Although it's optimistic it's certainly not impossible.

Hammersfan said...

LOL Very good Dixon. The other one was called Neighbours. Didn't the theme tune say something about good neighbours being good friends?

Sounds like sour grapes to me

Ironic touch with the picture Fanno.
Though yesterday's result wasn't exactly a massacre, I like your linking of Duccio's version of Herod's 'massacre' to it. Herod was a king; wasn't he? Now who was he the king of ……..? King of the Spurs - wasn't it?

Anonymous said...

Don't be fooled by the 1-0 scoreline as an indication that this game was somehow close. If any of you poor uneducated, unemployed hammers could actually afford to watch a game you would have noticed that there was only one team trying to win the game. It was attack v defence. You're agruement that it was an injury hit side is also very weak as had you have had a full strength side out there, you may of been required to venture out of your own box for a change. Making it a more open game. This type of game suits our players (e.g. modric, keane, defoe) and the outcome would have been more favourable to spurs. We'll see next year. This year we'll take the 6 points and 7th. Thanks

ha ha. you are so bitter. we had no palacios, no defoe, no hutton, the difference is we have the players to replace them. you're an over achieving club, and i expect you'll go down next year.

Super Spurs said...

I can only say what I see, & what I saw yesterday was a very poor Westham side take on the mighty Spurs, and lose.
I will admit you do have a lot of injuries, and at full strength you would have won yesterday, but you didn`t, you lost, and whilst it was only your "B" team you fielded, three points is three points... It`s almost as if you want us to stay up!!!
Thank you Westham, let`s hope we`re as "lucky" next season.
COYS

Anonymous said...

I am a West Ham fan, went to the game and thought the game was ok but the better team won. Had we been close to full strength we may have done better but we weren't. Our tactics were wrong as indeed they were at UP earlier this season. Tottenham do have better players than West Ham. Because of our run in and the injuries I would be pleased with a top 10 finish. I would expect Tottenham to finish above us. Get over it West Ham fans. We play Tottenham twice a year and it really is no big deal.

Anonymous said...

Well said Annon,
I really hope we don`t get in to Euro next season because we aren`t no where near ready, we have no strength in depth, as was clear yesterday, & we would struggle.
If we qualified for Europe next season with the squad we`ve got, it would have a detremental effect on our season, so much so I wouldn`t rule out relegation.
Forget Europe, at least for the moment. :)

It used to be i would wake to listen to the market traders going on about Berbatov now its Keane or Lesley this. I am surrounded by these lads but believe me i am from Gypsy blood, But i aint the Pikey round there!

To Bring Back Le Ginn - Mate I deplore the revolting racism of many of our fans. The whole Jewish thing is disgusting. Personally I would like to see Tottenham fans drop the Y nickname - it betrays a lack of understanding of the much wider issues involved. If you guys belittle the issue by playing along with it, you kind of encourage the morons to go over the top. If our "fans" were really joking about the Final Solution, they should have been arrested on the spot. The Kick Racism Out of Football campaign should be more than a slogan - and it should apply to antisemitism as well as to prejudice based around colour. I apologise for their actions but sadly they probably still think it is funny.

seems strange some westham fans at the lane yesterday wanted to ''ave it''. I served my country in Falklands, iraq ,northern ireland and serbia.Sometimes having to kill people, but always in the knowledge that we were part of a disciplined force trying to do good.I never knew any westham fans to have served with my regiment or regiments who served with us. Yesterday i witnessed some of the most scum like dregs i have ever seen, scum that made me wonder what the young soldiers of my regiment are actually serving and sacrificing for.Its a game you lost get over it,all fans want their team to win, friendly banter is fine, but why are you westham fans so aggressive and why are you not putting that aggression to use at the front line/hotspots or is it too hot for you lot.

Hammersfan said...

Mate, see what I have written above about the revolting actions of some of our fans. One solution might be to send them out to Iraq. Don't endanger any of the regulars, just put them in a regiment of their own and let them take what is coming to them. I have no time for thugs and racists. It's a damn shame they made the Green Street movie glorifying the thuggery.

Labelling the spam fans as pikeys is so appropriate, as like pikeys, they seem to be a law to themselves. We got hammered with waht happened down in Pompey, regarding you know who, but there was a mob of spammers being marched to the ground by old bill, giving the anti-semitism all the way, but no arrests. The spam are bigger scum than THE scum! As for the game, had we played Pav from the start, it would have been a rout! We really were a different class and they were no better than a bottom three side. One chance in their "cup final". They should be ashamed not hiding behind some injuries to average players!

Hammersfan said...

No excuse for the antisemitism as I say mate, but also no excuse for the abuse directed at Sol. I can understand the anger, but racism and homophobia are not the way to express it.

Anonymous said...

West Ham have loads of injury prone players in the squad, in most cases you knew this when you signed them (Dyer and Parker for example) so why be so surprised when you miss 5-10 players every week of the season? You will never field that perfect 11 since Ashton plays 10 league games a season, Parker 25, Dyer 2 etc. You also spent money you don't have on player wages over the last couple of years forcing you to sell without replacing and as a consequence make yourself even more vulnerable to injuries. I don't think this will be any different next season, you can't afford to strengthen your squad and the usual suspects will be just as injury prone as always.

It is funny listening to the excuses when a team loses especially when they have been mouthing off in recent weeks. I have always liked West Ham because they are a proper club, play decent football and are never a threat to THFC. They beat us and we beat them, but they never change from a team that will end from the middle to the bottom of the table and never win anything. They have a really problem with us though and it's called jealousy. We are and always will be a much bigger club. That's life - get over it.

Hammersfan said...

Yep mate, you are a bigger club, but what do you have to show for it? A couple of League Cups that the real big teams play reserve sides in! All that money spent for what exactly? How many managers? How many home produced players?

Anonymous said...

Why can't all fans just enjoy their teams victory instead of feeling the need to gloat over the vanquished? As a Spurs fan I know how Hammer fans feel because our closest neighbors have been beating us like a drum for what seems like forever.
There is so little civility amongst too many that attend games. Racism is nasty but it is only the tip of the iceberg. I'm afraid it will never end because it's our nature.

There is no racist hate of sol cambell

The song we sing that got so many backs up is all about judas (the mate of jesus

let me break it down for you

"sol sol wherever you maybe
not long now til lunacy"

refering to him going AWOL from the gnners and the subsquent hints of a break down

"And we won't give a f*ck when your hanging from a tree"

refering to judas ascariot who after selling out jesus to the romans for thirty pieces of silver ended up handging himself from a tree, this is nothing to do with the lynching of african americans in the deep south
don't forget that Ledley King is the fans fav player

"your a judas c*nt with HIV"

So yes the referal to him having HIV which i beleive is homophobic in the asumpsion thta being gay means you have HIV which is of couse not the case.
so homophobic yes raciast far from it

Mate, it was viciously personal and whilst you may try to make clever links with Judas, many made the Klan link. As I say above, I am disgusted by the racism of many West Ham fans so I am not saying we are saints and you are sinners. I think it would be best to drop the song and not try to defend it. Don't you agree?

Anonymous said...

Well i don't sing it anymore because as you say others made the klan connectin but its all about judas and what he did once you have a player of his position in the club leave on a bosmen free transfer to your most hated neighbours after promising the fans he was staying you might feel the need to chant judas at the man on every occasion.

the song was never racist until sol started to complain about it and his PR team spead the story in the papers about it being racist

Having said that the adeboyour song about his dad washing elephant is very racist and shames me when we sing it

Hammersfan said...

Then don't sing it mate. It's a thin line isn't it, between racism and humour. We can get too PC and end up banning all humour and banter and I don't think that would be good for the game but some of what goes on is deplorable. What annoys me is the failure of stewards and the police to act. If West Ham fans were really hissing to simulate the gassing of Jews at the Tottenham game, then every single one of them should have been arrested. That sort of behaviour is foul. There is nothing witty in that at all. And I don't think there was anything funny in the Sol song either. I think the key is what motivates the song / chant. If it is malicious or vindictive then it is unacceptable, if it is good natured banter, then fair enough. You lot hate Sol, so the song was never going to be "just good natured banter" was it?

Anonymous said...

Look when we went to Upton Park, we beat you 2-0 and totally out classed you, don't even tell me that wasn't even your strongest side. Plus for the carling cup final you didn't see us making excuses, Defoe, Keane, Palacios, Hutton, Chimbonda And Woodgate all missed the carling cup final. I think excuses are used too much, It's all about facts and the fact was SPURS WON.

Hammersfan said...

Spending £134.5 million helps you cope with injuries mate.

Anonymous said...

What is the relevance of spending £134.5m? When does this randon figure go back until? The fact is the net spend is about £10m which is the real figure. All THFC have been doing is buying and selling. We got £32m for Berba; £20m for Keane; £9m for Defoe; £18m for Carrick; £18m from Sunderland for 4 players; £15m from Portsmouth for 4 players - that's £112m and I'm bored now. No one mentions that Arsenal spend millions because they too get it all back so why use this useless stat for THFC.

Hammersfan said...

Transfer fees paid for your squad on Saturday mate.

Anonymous said...

thats the point i don't sing the adeboyour song

but why does banter have to be good natured if you've been shafted by someone then why can you not express that to them i'm sure your not to keen on 'arry and if you know the history of arsenal you'd understand our hatred for them

on a light note i'm all for the banter being taken lightly by other fans nothing beats a chant off, on a train back from the match, betweeen two groups of fans

but on saturday it was west ham being voilent (in fact i got my shirt ripped by some thug who tried to put one on me as we left the ground)

ps
transfer fees
well we turn a profit why begrudge us spending a bit.
In the summer we made a net profit in transfer fees so we had the cash in january to spend.
The fact is that us fans have the to weigh out for the most expensive tickets in the country at spurs ensures a healthy pile of cash to splash.
