Why Tottenham May Be Make or Break

Our run in is certainly tough! Everton away, Villa away, Chelsea and Liverpool at home, Stoke away - we might hope for 4 to 6 points from that lot but we certainly would not EXPECT many more, particularly with all our injuries. Zola set a target of 52 points for European qualification and it is hard to see where those are coming from. The two points surrendered against West Brom could well prove very costly. The only "banker" between now and the end of the season is Boro at home, and we didn't exactly intimidate them in the cup games did we?

So, the Tottenham game becomes huge. A defeat puts them just three points behind us with an easier run in; a draw maintains a 6 point gap, and a victory would make it incredibly difficult for them to catch us. But with all the injuries, is a victory realistic or is a repeat of the 4-0 thumping more likely?

Tottenham fans certainly seem confident. But are they cocky with justification or just Cockyfools as usual? The sending off on Saturday will definitely help us as will yet another error from Gomes. Stuff the short corners lads, get the ball in the air in the box and give Gomes the opportunity to cock up! Defensively we are much stronger than last year and Bent is hardly a one for one replacement for Barbietop is he? Lennon will fortunately be up against Ilunga rather than Neill, unless Tottenham decide to switch his flank, in which case he becomes 50% less effective anyway. In truth, when you look at their team, they aren't too much to write home about despite all that outlay of money.

But what team will we send out? We need Tristan sadly, just for his inches. If Kovac and Parker are fit, will Stanislas retain his place or will Zola play safe and go with experience? I think he should opt for safety first. One point keeps a 6 point buffer and edges us marginally closer to our target. Defeat to one of our main rivals would not just be painful but potentially disastrous.

I hope Clarke and Zola invoke the spirit that saw us shut out Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal on their own dung heaps - banks of four closing, closing, closing. Then bring on Dyer for twenty minutes and go for the jugular!

You know the words though don`t you son, lol
Tottenham fans make me die with their "we wanna be a big club" syndrome, they keep telling the whole world how good they are but this will be the second year running we`ve finished above them with an injury ravaged squad.
I really hope you don`t sell Bentley in the summer because he just about sums them up, he thinks he`s better than he is & has been found out, didn`t he once tout himself about as the new Beckham, which one, Victoria!!! lol,

here`s to a good game this weekend,
IRONS

As a neutral, what the hell is it with you West Ham fans tryng to pick a fight with spurs, its quite obvious that Spurs fans take no notice of you.

Hammersfan said...

The article itself doesn't pick a fight does it?

sorry west ham fans but its not bent you need to worry about defo is back and you cant stop his with his pace and i cant see use stopping lennon for more than 20 min so good lucks but 0-2 to the spurs champions league next year here where come!

Spuds fans make me laugh, Champions League.... riiiigghhhhttt. Redknapp is your handicap, always will be while he's managing. You're just not as good as any of you think you are, a bottom half team at best. But it's always funny for the rest of us to watch as the realisation hits late in the season (when the rest of us could see it a just a smidge earlier) that the only thing you're going to win is 'delusional fans of the year'. Europe this year.... maybe if you use your air miles.

ha ha ha champions league ... you muppets make me die ...

On Facebook there's an application where users can list their 5 most hated teams throughout the world ... I have not seen one yet without spurs in it. I even saw some in other countries & you even made their list. Spurs are hated all over the country because of fans like that ... saying champions league next year

Steady on! I for one do not hate Spurs. I am irritated by the way they repeatedly try to buy a side rather than develop one but, as the last two seasons have shown, that hurts them rather than helps them. I don't see things changing under 'Arry. He can't resist wheeling and dealing so Tottenham will be a revolving door again this summer. Then, surprise, surprise, come August, the team will play like a bunch of strangers and by October, there will be calls for the manager's head. Stability is needed. Consolidation. Dear God, they should appoint Turds!

Some delusional comments from both sides here. Why do some Spurs fans always have to go over the top and set us up for a fall? Our aim for next season should be to be competing with Everton, Villa, Man City and possibly West Ham for the Europa Cup places.
But to call us bottom half at best is plainly ridiculous. We're having our worst season for years, only had 2 points from 8 games, as Harry never gets bored of reminding everyone, and we'll still probably be top half.
Personally I reckon West Ham will still grab 7th spot. Wigan have got an equally tough run-in and are now short of confidence and Man City never win away. Spurs should beat West Brom, Newcastle and Man City at home (but being Spurs probably won't win all three) and will almost certainly lose at Old Trafford, Goodison and Anfield. So that just leaves West Ham. Win it and we've got half a chance of overtaking you, draw and that chance has gone.
Hammersfan makes a great point about Tottenham's revolving door (with managers as well as players). It's the biggest thing holding us back, as we never get the chance to build a team.

The Europa Cup, or whatever its called, doesn't do it for me anymore anyway. Let West Ham have the spot and Spurs put in a big push for the only position that matters.

While I am happy that we have overachieved this season while Spurs have underachieved - I feel that some of your comments are rather deluded....

For a start Lennon absolutely mullered Ilunga at our place earlier this season and when you look at the players they have at their disposal without club bias influencing opinion I think you would have to agree that Corluka, Woodgate, King, Modric, Keane, Palacios and Bent/Defoe would all walk into our line up, with the likes of Jenas, Bentley and Pavylunchnko probably also having a case as well.

Luckily Spurs' season didn't start until the 9th game when Redknapp came in with only 2 points on the board. Since then points wise they've probably been about the 6th or 7th best side in the league and thats about right I think.

Yes we can go there and get a result at the weekend, but Spurs are still big favourites for the result I think. No matter what result though Zola has done a terrific job with a limited budget and squad this season and I hope we can see it through to the end and take 7th place and the European tour that it will lead to.

Anon, no I don't agree all those cockerels would strut into our team. We don't need Woodgate and King, our centre back pairing is their equal and fitter. Corluka would replace Neill and, on his Croatia form, Modric would be a shoe in, but he saves that form for Croatia! I'm happy with our first choice midfield, I'd back them to outfight the Tottenham midfield. Up front, Tottenham still haven't found a pairing that works. But then, through-out his career, for all his ability, Keene has been a misfit. Superb player but you have to be special to play alongside him. Barbietop was, Bent, Pavolva and Defoe aren't!

spurs is gay.

im an everton but i would like to ask,if tottenham are so bad why are west ham fans so obsessed with finishing above them? it dosent really say much for your ambition, which at least tottenham do show even if they go about it the wrong way!! also this has been tottenhams worst season for years and one of west hams best and yet only a few points seperate them, so that should tell that tottenham are the better team

Anonymous said...

typical toffee knob-head ... west hams best season for ages ... ??? what about last year, finishing above spurs ?? 05/06 when we were never out of the top 10 all year & got to a cup final ... (the year that your boys never appeared in the top 10)

Anon,

if you're everton, why don't you stay on your own sites and worry about liverpool winning the league this year. talking about us being ahead of our rivals, what about yours?

on the subject of spurs. my hatred for them has always been the fans. i've never actually minded the way they play football. generally fast attacking play. I also think they have got a half decent team, king, modric, keane and sometimes lennon but i think your players are quite over rated. if i had to pick a team out of both our teams it would look something like this

green
upson
king
illunga
woodgate
lennon
parker
modric
collison
ashton
keane

If this is Spurs' worst season for years...what about last season when they finished 11th?? Come on at least pretend to know what you're talking about!!

I'd bet good money that the 'Everton' fan above is actually a Spud trying to stir things up.
Pathetic

Manu Liverpool Everton man city
Spuds still gotta face these and i cant see them getting much from that lot so all i gotta say is spuds who???

Calm down, calm down, it's only a blogsite. To the Everton fan, from the site administrator, welcome. It doesn't matter the club affiliation, all opinions welcome. Actually, Everton do have a half decent side but the most important factor is the quality of the manager. Moyes has been brilliant, unearthing a series of gems and building an efficient team on a relative shoestring. Semi final of the Cup and 6th place is going some! The comarison with Tottenham is because they are local rivals mate and because they are probably the biggest threat to the 7th place we are trying to keep hold of. Sadly, I can't see us catching Everton this season. We aim to overtake you next however!

Interesting the venom that there is from West Ham fans against Spurs. I feel the same venom for Arsenal, and the truth is though I don'tlike to admit it is jealousy, Arsenal are and have been better than us for years and any small victory is massive to us, now i'm not having a go at all against west ham because I don't hate them, but would it be reasonable to say that your hatred of us is for similar reasons, we have been underachievers for a long time and threatened more than we deliver, but generally over the years we have had more success than you and so your hatred of us is more than ours for you. The only thing that gets on my tits about you is your fans constant hatred of us, but other than that I have always liked watching west ham play.
