Leeds Charge Gathers Pace - But Absent Fans Let Down Warnock and Speed

Start a snowball rolling down hill...

The announcement of the takeover seems to have perked up the Kingdom of Leeds and there may now be no stopping them - at Elland Road at least! Two teams in the top three defeated in a matter of days, and suddenly Leeds are surging up the table. Better still, most of their rivals for promotion are stuttering.

Mind you, the locals don't seem to be impressed. This was a memorial game for former great Gary Speed and a crucial match against a top three team, and only 17,717 got their arses down to the stadium. The excuse of not putting money into the pockets of Master Bates no longer holds; it seems that the defection is not as personal as many fans have claimed.

When GFH Capital bought the club, it was on the basis of the Kingdom of Leeds being one of the best supported clubs in the country but last night Brighton, Charlton, Derby, Miserableboro, Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves all attracted more fans through the turnstiles for Championship fixtures. There were only eleven games so Leeds came fifth from bottom of the attendance table on the night in the second tier of English football.

It's a pretty poor state of affairs isn't it, when fans can't even show up on the first anniversary of Gary Speed's death? Well done to those who did; shame on those who stayed away. With gates of just 17,000, some might say that Leeds don't deserve to have a Premiership team!

Just when you think a person can't sink any lower you go and write one of the most antogonistic blogs you have ever written. It is beggars belief that you choose to mention Gary Speed which in itself it discusting. There is a fine line between banter and stupidity and you have clearly out done yourself this time. You my friend are no better than the filthy scum who chanted at the Tottenham game during the weekend.

And by the way Bates has sold nothing yet.

And by the way Bates still owns Leeds United so yes all proceeds still line his greedy pockets.

Very good points and as a leeds fan you are right that people used bates as an excuse to stay away. Prices far too high. Just one things as wouldn't be right not to have a go at you, charlton got less than us so as per your stats are wrong!

Hammersfan said...

Where do I trivialize Speed's death? I think Elland Road should have been packed to the rafters in tribute to the guy. It seems others prefer to save their cash or put their hatred for Bates over their respect for Speed. That is surely trivialising Speed's death, not saying fans have let him down by staying away.

Hammersfan said...

Oops you are right 0816. Leeds beat the Charlton gate by a few hundred. But Leicester are third, Peterborough bottom. You have to wonder how many rival fans swelled the gate at both games.

Hammersfan said...

0755, look at my threads on the Tottenham game, I make very clear my disgust. No inconsistency from me whatsoever. Now answer that if you can!

Speaking on behalf of West Ham fans we are not a racist club but like most clubs we have a minority of idiots. Hammersfan included in that bunch.

you're disgusting hf.so the fans who didnt go last night dont giv a fuk about gary speed?? to use a mans death to have a dig at leeds fans is low even for you! the fact is tickets are too expensive and it has only been a week since the takeover!! if we push on after christmas and sign some EXCITING players the fans will come back. but it wont happen overnight. anyway, get working on your next article....what about how zola has started to get watford playing?-my tip for league winners btw.

I'm not going to lie I normally have to laugh at your articles on Leeds. But on a serious note this particular article is just wrong on so many levels. How dare you have the audacity to question Leeds' fans respect for Gary Speed you halfwit. There's being controversial and there's being down right, out and out disrespectful, which you are. You've crossed the line with this article. Just cause there was 'only' circa 17,000 there doesn't mean Leeds fans don't respect Gary Speed any more or any less. I guarentee anyone associated with Leeds United will have spared a few thoughts for his family yesterday. So instead of writing complete, utter bollocks such as this, why not try and commemorate the life of a fantastic footballer and person, without having one of your pathetic little digs at our club.

Wow, you had to stoop THAT low just to get a read. You poor thing.

Hello Liam...intresting to read your cricket musings full of RACIST overtones....oh dear...not quite the mr untouchable you thought you was.

i like many leeds fans didnt buy tickets because I assumed the game would be off due the severe flooding around Yorkshire..

Also
Interesting fact for HF
last nights win was Leeds first midweek win at home for over a year !

Maybe not seeing your team win on a Tuesday night for a year also wears you down !!!!

and loads of other reasons you are well aware of,

Great win
no way is this squad good enough, but Warnock is working miracles to get get results to keep us in the running for the play offs

First time hf i agree with you regarding the poor crowds! people are just hiding behind bates to stay away! Personally i love leeds more than i hate bates, to all the other people that replys to in reverse i dont ever want you back at ellend road!!!

Anonymous said...

I'll answer you,you knuckle dragging filth. You had no choice but to vent your disgust at your fellow racists on sunday. You were faced with overwhelming evidence that even YOU couldn't wriggle out of. Meanwhile. I predict a 4-0 away win at old trafford tonight. Not.

Hammersfan said...

What a hysterical response, fuelled no doubt by that old adage, the truth hurts! Somebody is using the floods in Yorkshire as an excuse, claiming he thought the game would be postponed. That person clearly has the internet so why presume the unlikely when you can check? The good folk of Sheffield didn't make the same negative presumption did they, and Sheffield is in Yorkshire, is it not?

I show no disrespect to Gary Speed whatsoever in this thread. I refer to him as "former great Gary Speed" and describe the failure to attend a game on the anniversary of his death as "a pretty poor state of affairs". I say "well done" to those who attended and "shame on those" who didn't.

Be honest all you angry Leeds fans, are you happy that only 17,717 turned up last night? If Leeds really are such a big club now, why are fans still staying away in such huge numbers? To say, when we start winning the fans will return is disgraceful. That means 20,000 Leeds fans only sing when the club is winning, an insult hurled at the uncommitted week in week out at football grounds around the country. Sheffield Wednesday fans showed up in greater numbers and are below Leeds in the table. The same is true of Wolves. So, are we saying that Wolves and Wednesday fans are more committed to their clubs because they support through thick and thin? It seems so given the response of 0752.

I was genuinely shocked by the low turn out last night. I didn't know it was the anniversary of Speed's death until somebody posted on here, but apparently the Leeds boards were full of that information. I expected a bumper gate based on the takeover, a fixture against a team in the top three, affection and respect for Speed, and on the back of a victory over the league leaders on Saturday.

My God, what does it take to motivate Leeds fans to attend a game these days? Some support! You lot spout off on here, claiming Leeds are a huge club, but when less than 18,000 show up for a game of that significance, questions have to be asked. Believe me, I would be asking them if West Ham only attracted 17,717 for a fixture like that. We had a bigger gate for the Carling Piss Pot game with Aldershot last season!

Hammersfan said...

1051, go back through the history of this site and you will find many threads condemning the racism and hooliganism of West Ham fans long before the latest incident. I called for the club to resign its place in the Carling Cup after the Millwall riot and have regularly campaigned against racist abuse of Spurs fans. I refuse to use the word Yids for Tottenham or its fans. Sorry but you are wrong.

Anything Leeds do that is 95 % positive-( defeating a very good Leicester Team) and 5% negative ( poorish crowd) YOU will accentuate the negative
The crowds will return to Leeds and so will the glory, thanks to Neil Warnock, a genius who you dispise.

You obviously don't know the SIZE of Yorkshire?
how many miles between Sheffield and Middlesborough?100 miles you dickwad

I drove up the M1 this morning and the A1 was still closed for flooding and York is still virtually underwater....

South Yorkshire was virtually untouched you idiot.

I was looking to buy tickets days before, not two minutes before the match starts, some of us work(have lives) and need to plan in advance...make sense butthead?

You were expecting a bumper gate?
shows how little you know about ANYTHING !

Your comparisons are laughable...
Everyone knows you are not comparing like for like, so why bother..

You can mock Leeds and the fans and wind is us and peddle hatred, but you will never ever be as big us we are.....

You will always have a small dick, and forever be a predictable student t***, with a high opinion of yourself.

Leeds had a small gate....you were shocked? hahaha
You are sitting in there in Romania? worrying about Leeds?
Shocked by the recent fire in Pakistan? NO, shocked by a slightly low gate at LUFC

You need to get your life in perspective....

I think you are just grumpy as you were expecting to be writing about Leeds heading into the bottom 3 of the table....

Thanks for the student "well done" to the fans who did turn up...I am sure they are grateful for your approval.

I hope you have recovered from your SHOCK and have a good day working in the orphanage, before you are finally brought to justice by the child protection services.

As another Month ticks by, let's see how this genius Hammersfan's picks for Championship top 5 'certainties' are standing

In case you missed it, old Big Gob (that's Hammersfan, not his nemisis Warnock)went for Cardiff and Leicester ( they were tough to pick !) and also Blackpool Forest and Blackburn.

Of course it was all about saying Leeds had only one chance after these 5 who 'can't possibly miss'.

Predictions are looking a bit sad at the moment Big Gob, but then again, what do you know about football?

Im as bored with these articles now as you leeds crowd are. If hammersfan spent the time he does on leeds articles writing about our own club this blog might actually be worth a read.

This article does however slightly amuse me, hf is trying to suggest you dont have a big following, although has been using that following for months just to get more hits on his site. But as i said, its getting old so can you lot please stop taking the bait so us hammers dont have to see this drivel everyday. Either that or do you have a leeds blogger that only writes about us? It may be bias but at least id get to read about my own club...

Feeling guilty much Hammersfan!?

You're a sad, pathetic excuse for a man.

Glad you get the hammering you get on here, because you're freaking idiot.

I would love to meet you one day - you would be going home with a very broken nose.

thegarth said...

I think you should clarify your point

Are you saying Leeds fans are disrespectful for not going to the game on the anniversary of a past players death.

Or are you saying it is a poor attendance.

If it is the former - watch some of the scenes from our match last year just after his death. Our pre match tribute was phenomenal - the number of reefs outside the ground etc etc etc.

Support the following Tuesday at Forest filled paper columns after our Speed tribute singing.

If your point is the latter - yes the attendance was poor. Try watching a man take over your club and part you with your hard earned cash and asset strip your club year after year. Selling homegrown players and any player with value to line his pockets.

You can bleet on about loyalty all you want but throwing good money after bad is just foolish. I know people that haven't missed a game for OVER 20 years that refuse to go until he is out of the club.

WHICH HE ISN'T YET!!! WHICH YOU DON'T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND OR ACKNOWLEDGE.

Anonymous said...

Poor away following to be honest

Hammersfan said...

Think you will find I accentuate the positive in the headline and in the opening paragraph! I quote, "Two teams in the top three defeated in a matter of days, and suddenly Leeds are surging up the table. Better still, most of their rivals for promotion are stuttering."

Anonymous said...

If you want to pretend to support Leeds at least learn how to spell Elland Road you cock.

Hammersfan said...

I don't support Leeds!

Hammersfan said...

Thegarth, I am saying that the attendance was disgracefully low given the significance of the match - and the anniversary of Speed's death added to that significance. It's all very well talking about what happened immediately afterwards but, sadly, there's a form of hysteria involved then. Look at the reaction to Diana's death. People like to be seen to be responding; the whole grieving business becomes a competition about who can beat themselves up most about it. What counts is after a passing of time. One year on, the ground should have been packed and all the fans who remembered Speed should have been paying their tributes. Instead, weather, Bates and poor results are trotted out as excuses.

Dear God, supporting a club transcends everything! I am no fan of Allardyce, nor of Brady, Sullivan and Gold, but that would not be a factor in determining whether or not I went to watch West Ham. If I lived locally to the ground, I would go to every home game because West Ham are my club, and I wouldn't let any bastard stand between me and my club, not even the racist scum who disgraced our club at Spurs.

Leeds has a population of nearly 800,000 but only 17,717 turned up for this game. That is a terrible indictment don't you think, given the significance of the match?

Dave Leeds said...

5th lowest attendance in the English second tier yet 10 times (surely) more hits than any other club on your website.

Doesn't make any sense, does it? Almost like there's a bit of a protest happening against the current chairman.

I'm actually really proud of that statistic so thanks for pointing it out. Not quite the vociferous few, more like the vociferous 20,000.

Anonymous said...

One game has a low turn out and we have let Warnock and Speed down, how about the players have been letting the fans down for weeks with dire diplays! Also do you think we have 40k every week, lucky to get 24k with the cost of a ticket lately....and it has been value for money either! average attendance is about 20k i would say so its not that low, should have been higher but i believe fans had genuine reasons. I wont be listing the reasons as it just gives you more reasons to wind fans up...even your own fans dont like you hahahahahahaha. Only you know the real reason why you bother to post about other clubs, mostly Leeds so often. Maybe your in your 40's and live at home with your parents?

So Dave, how do you think the players and Warnock feel about the lack of support? Wouldn't you want to be cheered on by a full house? Wouldn't that be intimidating for the opposition? Anyway, the battle is over. Bates has sold up. Hasn't he?

What has bates or Leeds got to do with you hf? You peice of shit.

Dave Leeds said...

You're absolutely right hf, once again. I bow to your knowledge of all things football. Comfortably beating 2 of the top 3 in the same week with absolutely appalling attendances. Just think what we'll do to the rest of this division (and the premiership for that matter) when the crowds return. We both know the crowds WILL return don't we? Quite a frightening prospect I'm sure.

Was it a year to the day Speedie committed suicide? I hadn't noticed to be honest. Not something I tend to celebrate really. Can any other Leeds fan tell me the exact date Bremner or Revie died (without looking it up obviously)? I bet 20,000 of you can't. Ha ha were clearly the worst supporters in the land! Good week all round for your lot though eh hf?

Hammersfan said...

Comfortably Dave? A penalty, with the opposition hitting the bar? Is that comfortable?

Aparently Dave, it was all over the Leeds boards that it was the anniversary of Speed's death. I was expected to know by somebody who posted on here, accusing me of being disrespectful when I said I didn't know.

Bremner's and Revie's deaths? Did either commit suicide? Did either die so young as Speed?

By the way, Speedie wasn't fit to tie Speed's boots. You should be more careful: show more respect to a genuine legend!

Dave Leeds said...

Silly me, of course we only celebrate untimely deaths where suicide is involved don't we, hf? Motor neurone? Heart attack? Clearly not worthy of a good old celebration on a Tuesday night!

Apologies once again, hf. You see, sometimes I forget who or what I'm talking to. You're not a Leeds fan are you no matter how much you pretend or want to be? Speedie was, how you say, like a 'nick name' used affectionately by the supporters of Leeds United to describe their genuine legend. I can understand why it's a little confusing.
