Remy & Reid. A Tale Of Two Cities.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of Avram’s wisdom, it was the age of Sullivan’s foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, after the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, after the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way--in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

WTF? Sorry, that should be WTD! Has the world gone mad all of a sudden? Is the new Thierry Henry really about to sign for Stoke City whilst West Ham sign a big lump of a farm hand from New Zealand? Surely this is all arse about face! Next thing you know, Her Royal Highness will move to a two up two down in Stoke and the Olympics will move north!

Of course it will serve Remy right. He thought he was too good for West Ham and held out for Arsenal or Liverpool. But instead he could find himself playing for Stoke City! Presumably the guy aint all that. If he was as good as the Sullivan PR machine would have us believe, Villa or Tottenham would at least be sniffing surely?

I would love to see Remy's face as he steps off his Ryanair flight at East Midlands Airport to be greeted by Pulis. “Here’s the helmet son, my scooter is parked up outside. If you think this is no frills son, wait until you see us play football!”

I don't think he rejected us HF. We just wouldn't complete the deal unless we could cash in on Carlton Cole. In any case, Remy was supposed to be Cole's replacement.

It seems that there isn't sufficient demand to buy CC therefore West Ham did not proceed with the deal. I am pretty sure this is how it is. It is not about what Remy wants. In fact, the fact he is now willing to consider Stoke proves my point. Only a crazy man would reject us for Stoke.

Sorry to go off on a tangent but I've just seen this article on KUMB about the Olympic Stadium...

http://www.kumb.com/story.php?id=124846

I'm not convinced at all about the whole idea and really hope we don't get it. Can't stand the idea of having a running track between us and the pitch and also the idea of sharing the ground with other sports and events could be a problem. Apparently a lot of the problems with the pitch at Wembley are because the stadium is used for so many concerts etc.

If it's really going to cost £100m+ to convert the OS into a football stadium why don't we just bite the bullet and either redevelop UP or build a new stadium of our own? What happened to Royal Mail site option in West Ham??

I've had my doubts over Remy for awhile. I clearly remember that we had met all the demands a few weeks ago, just as Liverpool and Spurs were rumored to be involved, and had offered the lions share up front of a 13.5 million pound (euro?) bid. It was reported that way. Then Nice said only us and Fenerbahce had made official bids. So I've wondered what was going on.

I could be wrong, or even nuts (my kids think so), but I am not that upset by this. If Remy wanted us, he would have come. He assumed a "bigger" club would come in, and now that they haven't they are all scrambling to make a deal.

And I actually don't think Cole was ever out the door, and that getting REmy depended on selling him. I still think the strategy is to buy now and sell in January.

Let him go to Stoke. F*&* him eternally.

That last line may be your funniest yet HF!

Stani Army said...

If Remy is the new Henry, Stoke must be the new Arsenal?

Anonymous said...

The last line doesn't make sense.
Stoke have less debt than us and more disposable financial resources.
West Ham just about avoided relegation. We are a little club.
No one has seen Remy play, it's amazing what you lot think you know from Skysports reports and the "Thierry Henry" soundbite.
Just let what ever happens, happen. Hopefully we will buy a striker but not one that will exascerpate our debt or will proove unsuitable for our system under Grant.
This vitriolic angst towards a player no one has seen perform at any level, and commenting on the intricacies of a deal you have only read about in newspaper NIBs. Noone knows whats happening, so just chill out.

Everyone's a bloody authority.

Dear Mr Anonymous, I found the last paragraph in HF's article amusing which I shall reproduce here for your perusal.

"I would love to see Remy's face as he steps off his Ryanair flight at East Midlands Airport to be greeted by Pulis. “Here’s the helmet son, my scooter is parked up outside. If you think this is no frills son, wait until you see us play football!”

It makes sense to me. I think you may have mistakenly concurred that I was referring to another poster's comment.

Headmaster said...

Vitriolic angst eh, I must have missed that!
As for Stoke being a bigger ckub than us - yeah, right.
I wonder whether Sav is right - perhaps the original plan was to sell Cole in order to finance Remy. Perhaps with all of the procrastination it is us that has cooled on the deal. Perhaps Avram has taken a good look at an in form Cole pre season and now reasons that it is better the devil you know?
Anyways, if the transfer window shut tonight, I wouldn't be at all unhappy. Problem is, it doesn't so we've got another 3 weeks of this endless and tiresome speculation to 'look forward to'.

1. Apache - I didnt mistakenly think you commented on a different post. That last paragraph about Pulis arrive on a scooter doesn't make sense. And I mean, mainly, it's just not funny.

2. Headmaster: Missed the vitriolic angst? "Let him go to Stoke. F*&* him eternally." What are you blind or stupid?

3. Headmaster: I never once said Stoke were bigger than us. I said they have more disposable cash and are in less debt. Fact. West Ham are not a big side, Im Hammers till I die but I refuse to join this league of fantasists who think we deserve a pedestal when we haven't won anything in 20 years. That's our goal, and I hope Avram takes us in that direction.

Im so bored of conjecture and procrastination about intricate transfer deals and why theyfell through. Its all hypothesis and is boring. People desperatly trying to fill the football void with idol gossip and VITRIOLIC ANGST - "Let him go to Stoke. F*&* him eternally."

14.36 - With all respect, I think you might be in the wrong place.

Most football blogs are generally about transfer speculation and fan angst. If you want to avoid that sort of stuff then I'd advise you to start by avoiding football blogs.

Headmaster said...

Anonymous - by juxtaposing the statements about Stoke having disposable cash and our just avoiding relegation your inference appeared to be very clear - Remy is choosing to go to a club in a better place. Ok, you didn't use the term 'bigger' but you might just have well had.
Secondly, if one quote advising Remy to **** off for eternity is the sum total of the vitriolic angst, I repeat my assertion that you have over reacted somewhat and I do not agree with you.
For what it's worth, as I alluded to in my last post, I do tend to agree with you that blogs at this time of the year do tend to become breeding grounds for endless speculation about transfers (90% of which never come to fruition) and that is why I cannot wait for the 31st of January and August each year. On that point I suspect we agree.
On your retort to Apache, I would have to disagree as it goes. I thought HFs final sentence was a scream! Still, sense of humour is, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder eh?

Headmaster - Like others I wish you to go away - you weren't interested in this site until you got thrown out and barred by Iain "bad boy" Dale - you are not welcome here and to be honest your posts are boring in the extreme... anyone who uses "vitriolic angst" in football blog is way too far up their own arse - no wonder WHTID had enough of you.

Headmaster said...

Anonymous (which one would this be, do I care!)
Firstly, I was quoting 'anonymous' at 1331 when I used the term 'vitriolic angst' = derrr.
Secondly, I have not been either thrown out or barred by Mr Dale - I have chosen to leave of my own accord
Thirdly, I won't be going away until I choose to, unless HF asks me to or, as is the case shortly, whilst I am away on holiday.
Love n kisses xx

Just saw skynews footage of him getting off the plane HF! He was looking around into the distance like where the hell am I?!

Headmaster, I like you already. You seem to have got up as many noses as me!!!!!

To the anonymous who did not enjoy my last paragraph, may I suggest that, instead of reading meaningless blogs full of hyperbole (look that one up mate!), you spend your time more usefully by reading a dictionary. You remind me of Joey from Friends when he discovered the Thesaurus button on Word. You use words incorrectly and your spelling is awful! God knows what "exascerpate" is meant to mean, it is a hybrid of at least three words! Do you know what procrastination means? Who is procrastinating? Remy because he hasn't signed for anybody yet? If so, it makes no sense in your sentence. I love the idea of "idol gossip". Which idol is gossiping exactly? Presumably an idle idol! Usually, my friend, we refer to "idle gossip"! Still vitriolic angst sounds mighty good doesn't it?

Dave said...

HammersFan - Good entertaining post though I would've used the word 'if' in this sentence; "(if) He thought he was too good for West Ham and held out for Arsenal or Liverpool." you're just assuming the worst about the guy here. After all none of us really know any of the facts do we? I have to agree with Apache over your last sentence (lol).

Anonymous 13:31; 14:36; 17:46 (especially) & Headmaster - put the handbags away ladies!

Hammersfan said...

Cheers Dave and Apache. If he joins Stoke, I'm going to assume the worst oof him regardless Dave. Who would join Stoke unless he was trying to put 200 milles between himself and a pack of angry bookmakers?

Straight4ward said...

Good point Dave, but it might have more to do with his employers than the player himself.
I've read elsewhere that Stoke may be prepared to offer all the money up front whereas other clubs were looking at paying in installments.
All speculation, of course.

Regarding the lively debate, no don't put the handbags away - keep bashing each other over the head with 'em.

Hammersfan said...

Spot on Straight4forward!

Dave said...

Hammersfan - Totally agree 'if' he joins them, even if this is the only choice he is left with. I'd prefer to stay at Nice and be spat at to be honest!

Was he spat at in Nice? That's not nice!

This blog actually makes me sad to be a Hammers fan.
I came here by mistake because of westhamnews.net. Why is this even on there? It's just some idiot on a soapbox talking rubbish.
I agree with anon 1... what do you know about the details of the transfer...if someone is there saying so and so should f off...that IS vitriolic rage. It's nothing to do with opinion. Its objective fact. Im gonna work day and night to bring this forum down. You're a disgrace to the colours and not welcome on Green Street

Hammersfan said...

Back again? You tiresome twerp. I didn't say anybody should f off, not even you!

Dave said...

Anonymous 19:49 a.k.a. Mr Angry a.k.a. the 'Mayor of Green Street' (apparently) - 'if' you came to this site by mistake, as you claim, then why stay and add your own rancour? Are you so sad that you have nothing better to do with your nights and days?

Anonymous said...

if you turned off anonymous posts - we'd know who is bloody who - it would really help knowing who is who and we'd probably all get of a tiny bit better

Hammersfan said...

I doubt it. People would just use multiple identities. I am happy with people using anonymous either for convenience or because they are cowards. ; }

Headmaster said...

Funny that, Anonymous 2044, I emailed our host hinting at exactly the same point a few minutes ago.
I guess one strategy is to simply disregard anything that someone says when they call themselves 'anonymous', that is if it is an inflammatory or personal post as there have been a couple today. Yes, that'll be my new approach.

Hammersfan said...

I'll check out your email Headmaster. At the end of the day, no one knows what we are like in real life do they? I know I adopt a personna when on here and I'm sure most intelligent people do. Some of Hammersfan / Fanno / hammersfanno1 is me, the obnoxious bit, but I'm nowhere near as pleasant and easy going in real life! ; } What do I care what somebody says about me who has never met me?

Anonymous said...

HM - Come on back mate. It's really no fun here - talk about a sense of humour bypass - this lot have had the triple!

LOL Beg man, beg!

21:14 headmaster just loves to make suggestions... I suggest he goes elsewhere as he is obviously a trouble maker, what is it with this guy? lucky you don't have thumbs up / thumbs down HF otherwise you'd be in serious trouble. I think he should set up his own blog as obviously everyone isn't doing a good job in his eyes.
