Given the massive salaries players are being paid over the summer, it always amazes me how slow the transfer market is to get started. We all know that Milner will eventually join Unreal City, so what do Villa gain from prevaricating? Let's guess Milner's salary is £50k per week. By hanging on to him for five idle weeks, Villa end up paying £250,000 in wages unnecessarily. And that, of course, is addition to the interest that they could be banking on £27 million!
Meanwhile, friendlies and formations are, to a large extent, pointless if a club doesn't have key personnel available. If Parker is going, why waste time building the team round him in friendly games? What was the point, a couple of seasons back, of Tottenham bringing Berbatov to the boil for Man Utd?
It seems that the market needs one big deal to set the wheels turning. If Unreal City pump £27 million into Villa's coffers, O'Neill will go on a spending spree immediately. £12 million to ourselves for Parker, will trigger a £5 million bid for Prince Boateng to replace him. The Mascherano money will free Woy to bid for Parker too. Suddenly the transfer wheels will be oiled and the market will burst into life.
However, this is all crazy. The business should be done at the beginning of the summer, not the end. Take ourselves last season. How long was it before Zola felt able to trust Diamanti, Da Costa and Franco? Had they been recruited in June, they could have figured in pre season friendlies and stepped into the team for the big kick off.
That's something Avram, Gold & Sullivan seem to have got right so far. However, if we suddenly saw lots of comings and goings over the next couple of weeks, all the good work done so far could be undone.
The sooner Villa and City reach agreement over Milner the better. Because it's not only their squads that hinge on it.

We CANNOT sell Parker. What on earth would that say about Sullivan after what he has said? Parker must must must stay. Has the chance to become a club icon if we were to get into Europe.

On my humble opinion Milner will stay put so Villa will have no funds to make a meaningful bid for anyone. If he were to go I believe that they will go for KPB themselves, especially if the transfer fees people are guessing are true. 12 million for Parker and 5 for KPB. Surely they would just buy him themselves. Also if Parker is leaving for one last shot at fame and fortune then Villa wouldn't be a sensible move. This is all guess work of course.
As far as Liverpool are concerned I have read that they are in for that Standard Liege fellow. Again this is all conjecture. I feel that the market will pick up a little in the coming weeks but not to the extent the press would like.

I think he will go Lambuck. He can double his salary so why wouldn't he? And as for Villa, they get £25m plus for a player who was out on loan a couple of seasons back. he is NOT worth that sort of money. Villa would be mad not to cash in!
I think he'd jump at the chance to go but for whatever reason O'Neil wants to keep him. I agree with you and personally would cash in on him now. They will never get a better offer for him than the one that is supposedly on the table.
The transfer window has perplexed me so far. It seems that all the managers are playing transfer chicken and we are waiting for the first guy to blink. I think the teams with cash don't wanna spend it and the teams without want to strengthen, but for said reason there not able to.
Oh and I've been a silent observer for roughly three weeks and I frickin love this site.

The trouble with your theory falls down around £12m for Parker. I very mush doubt that Villa would pay £12m as they are skint and need to make a profit for their American owner. Also didn't Sullivan say something like - Parker is not for sale under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES nor for ANY AMOUNT of money.
Surely you are not suggesting our chairman lied and might go back on his word? Especially as it was laced with an added comment that WH fans had been lied to by previous owners and that he would never do that....
You clearly have not been following this blog mate. Yep, that is pretty much what I am saying. Not lying as such, just employing Doublethink. Cole is going nowhere until he demands a transfer or somebody, like Villa, come up with a sufficiently large bid.

i think a lot of managers are waiting now that we have the 25 man squad rule, there will be many players who will end up sitting on the bench for a year who will want to play, makes sense for managers to wait to see who will be loaned out or those that wish to move on to play football rather then warming a bench all season.
As for Cole i would keep him over Parker, dont get me wrong, i think Parker's great and would rather keep the pair but if one was to go my choice would be Parker. I have a feeling this is going to be a good season ;) mind you i always have that feeling at the beginning of the season!
