Congratulations to AFC Wimbledon!

Here we are, licking our wounds because of relegation and feeling sorry for ourselves, but if we need any inspiration, we should look to AFC Wimbledon, rising Phoenix like from the ashes, securing 5 promotions in 8 years, and claiming a place in the Football League today!

What a journey, what a story, what a REAL football club! You can stuff Man City and Chelsea, AFC Wimbledon are what football is about, a proper team loyal to the local area!

Years ago, I watched the old Wimbledon playing at Yeovil in the Southern League. We won the game 3-1 and a guy called Dickie Plumb, who went to Charlton for a season or two with Cyril Davies, shoulder charged Dickie Guy, the Wimbledon keeper, into the net. Guy went absolutely ape when the goal was awarded, it literally took all his team mates and half the Yeovil team to stop him assaulting the referee and at the end of the game, he chased the bastard in the black down the tunnel!

From there, Wimbledon went on to great things. The Cup runs, promotion to the league, the climb up the table, Vinnie Jones, Dennis Wise and the whole crazy gang, and, of course, that incredible Cup Final victory over Liverpool. And then the betrayal, moving to Purgatory on Earth, Milton Keynes. Cue the formation of AFC!

Had Luton been playing anybody else today, I would have been in the Hatters' camp because they were treated shoddily with the points deduction and I've scored a goal at Kenilworth Road so feel a certain affection for them, but the real story today was AFC and the whole of football should celebrate their success. Well done guys for showing there is a God in football after all!

Brilliant Article By Des Kelly in The Mail!

As a rule, I don't have much time for Des Kelly but this article is very good indeed. Apologies to The Mail for lifting it but as they have had a couple of my headlines in the past, I don't feel too guilty! The article is reproduced in full below!

"They gave him a brand new office you know. It had a desk, a chair, some different coloured biros and a fancy laptop gizmo that worked out how far his players had run and how much Kentucky Fried Chicken Benni McCarthy had eaten.


Even then, Avram Grant couldn’t hack it. West Ham handed him all the paper clips his heart desired, yet he was still unable to save the club. Relegation was his fault entirely.

That’s the line chief executive Karren Brady was peddling in her unique take on events this week. Her verdict could essentially be summed up as one long denial. Of everything


Having read her account I could only feel relieved Brady’s attempt to write history is confined to West Ham. If she had been asked to review something more significant, like the assassination of John F Kennedy for instance, she may have blamed JFK for putting his head in the way of the bullet.


Stung by accusations that the Hammers were ‘the worst-run club’, Brady declared everyone in a position of authority at the Boleyn Ground should be exonerated from blame, except the hapless Grant.

She claimed: ‘Avram’s personal needs were met: a driver, a new office and an upgraded, expensive analysis system. He was given every chance, but was sadly unable to deliver.’

Let us leave aside the rather unsettling reference to Grant’s ‘personal needs’, since past reports suggest they might involve a good rub-down at a massage parlour and that is not an image to dwell upon unless you intend to keep the lights on for the rest of your life.

Instead, we will concentrate on the merits of the blame-shifting exercise currently underway. For although managers are often cast as the patsy, sometimes it is the people that put them there who should be called to account.

Without straying too far into territory more familiar to David Gold and David Sullivan, the Hammers board is currently in more denial than a teenage boy caught by their mother with a top-shelf magazine.

Seriously, who cares whether Brady and Co gave Grant an office? The fundamental problem was they gave him a job!

Three supposedly streetwise business operators handed the club they had poured their money into over to a gloomy Gollum of a boss who was always likely to guide them down the plughole. I am not speaking with the benefit of hindsight here. At the start of the season I predicted West Ham would be relegated.

In August, when most were sure they had a squad more than capable of staying up, I warned: ‘West Ham will suffer the consequences of appointing a manager who bows to the bungling interference of the owners.’

And so it came to pass. This is a club hierarchy that loves to say who should and shouldn’t be bought, allowing their favourite agent to pull the strings, only to squeal the Press when the whole enterprise goes boobs up.

We hear tales of one boardroom figure entering the dressing room to tell players how to defeat Stoke and there are reports of how a busy agent boasts he has effectively replaced the sacked chief scout.

West Ham’s triumvirate handed Grant the manager’s job because he was malleable. He didn’t mind agents going direct to members of the board, he kept quiet when know-it-alls stuck an oar in on tactics.

‘We don’t hide our success as businessmen, or that we came from humble beginnings,’ said Brady, with a distinct lack of anything that could be described as humble. But they seem to have been doing a good job of hiding that success as businessmen of late.

Brady took particular exception to descriptions of the Hammers’ £275-a-head, end-of-season bash. She insisted it was ‘certainly not a party’ at all, but a ‘Gala Evening’, which sounded very highfalutin, la-de-dah Gunner Graham. So I looked up the definition of the word gala. It said: ‘A festive occasion, especially a lavish social event or celebration. Characterised by sumptuous social pleasure, as in “the gala life of the very rich”.’ So I think we can say it was a party then, albeit an ill-timed and miserable one.

Brady was not the only boardroom figure talking, however. Gold was interviewed as soon as Sky could dispatch a camera to his house and claimed he always found everything was ‘very professional’ at the training ground. This contrasted somewhat with the view of Lee Dixon, a fine player and a pundit who knows what he’s talking about. When he visited training he used a different word. ‘Shambles’.

There may have been more of the customary stuff from Gold about those ‘humble beginnings’, but I confess I wasn’t listening because I was too busy wondering why his helicopter wasn’t in the back of the shot like it usually is.

Sullivan, the last of the three amigos, offered his alibis to another tabloid and, to be fair, he did say Grant’s appointment was ‘a bad selection by the board’. But then he added: ‘I confidently predict that this time next year, we’ll all be millionaires!’ Apologies, what he actually said was: ‘I confidently predict that this time next year, we’ll be back in the Premier League,’ but for some reason I couldn’t get Del Boy’s version out of my head.

There is little evidence to suggest West Ham’s hope of making an immediate return to the top flight is any more likely to succeed than one of the Trotters’ money-making schemes."

Keen's Team for Sunderland

Last week was the final chapter of one West Ham book and tomorrow is either the epilogue to that story or the preface of a sequel.

Noises coming out of Keen are promising. His record as a manager aint great of course. He took charge of one game between Turds flouncing off and Zola being appointed. We lost that game, 2-3 at West Brom and the Baggies finished bottom that season. So a 100% record of the worst possible kind! Even Zola and Grant have better win ratios than that!

However, I like Keen. He was under rated as a player and scored the best goal I have ever seen scored by a player in a West Ham shirt, curling in a shot from almost on the goal line from an area half way between the edge of the penalty box and corner flag. It wasn't a fluke either! And I like the way he is talking now. How refreshing it would have been to hear Zola or Grant say, "but God we have had a shit season, haven't we?"

According to a report in the Mail, young Tombides is going to be on the bench and it sounds like there will be more adventure in the selection when Keen says, 'I am sure the majority (of the fans), with the team I am picking, will be behind us and want us to get a win.'

So who will be in that team? My money is on the following line-up, injuries permitting:

Green

Spence, Tomkins, da Costa, Bridge

Barerra, Spector, Hitz, Collison

Ba, Sears

Like that, the primary underachievers, the players the fans hold most responsible for our relegation, after Grant of course, will not feature. Piquionne, Cole, Upson and Keane, in particular, could be guaranteed a rough ride if they turned up and Faubert and Dyer probably aren't even reporting for training / treatment, never mind expecting selection. It is possible that Obinna will feature if the club still cherish hopes of signing him on a Bosman but the chances of that happening seem slight now we have been relegated.

Looking at that proposed team, there is hope for next season. Even if Hitz goes, we still have Noble to slot in to midfield and then there are Stanislas, Tombides, Piquionne and maybe Hines to add. That assumes we keep Ba of course!

Kovac Slams Grant

So there's no love lost between Radislav and Avram then. The Czech has fired off a broadside, claiming Grant had a squad good enough to finish in the top 10 and blaming the Israeli for our relegation.

Of course Kovac is bitter. He was on his way to Stoke before the Hitz injury, and then Grant refused to sanction the deal. That would have been okay, of course, had Kovac not spent the whole season rotting in the reserves or keeping the bench warm.

And there's the rub. Even Grant's most vociferous critics have no time for Kovac. If there's one thing Grant got right all season, in the eyes of most Hammers fans, it was ignoring Kovac.

Radislav now wants out. The question is, who would be stupid enough to take him?

Redknapp Rips it out of Defoe

Very funny to listen to 'Arry laying into Judas. Old Twitcher didn't pull any punches, telling the little shit to put up or shut up. If Defoe wants to play, he has to score. But the laugh out loud bit came with 'Arry's response to Defoe's objection to playing in the Europa League.

'Arry joked, "He can have Thursdays off then. Maybe he is busy on Thursdays so we will have to organise ourselves around that one." He then added tellingly, "If he is still here".

That nailed it for me, Defoe is out of the revolving door this summer as Redknapp wheels and deals, exploiting Newcastle's desperation for a strike force. I can see Defoe teamed up with either Kenwyne or Cole at the Barcodes ready for the start of next season, with possibly Ba recruited to replace Judas at Spurs.

Alternatively, 'Arry may go the whole hog and ship out both Crouch and Defoe to Newcastle - they do seem to come and go as a pair - and recruit Kenwyne and Ba as their replacements at White Hart Lane, with Tottenham pocketing a profit from the deal.

And Kenwyne's replacement at Stoke? Well Pulis fancied Cole last summer didn't he? Perhaps Fuller will head to Upton Park as part of another merry go round.

West Ham's Relegation Down To Sheer Bad Luck!

Now calm down everybody. This is the first in a series of articles exploring why exactly we crashed out of the Premiership this season. I will look at different theories and explanations, some of which will overlap inevitably, and then try to tie all the threads together and reach a final conclusion. So, this is the Bad Luck argument.

Most would cite the injury to Hitzlspurger as the first cruel blow to strike West Ham and Avram, with that terrible injury ruling him out until February; and the loss of our summer marque signing was certainly a kick in the club's solar plexus. Pre season had gone so well and the club had found a winning groove, with Hitz, by all accounts, playing a prominent role. Amazingly, not only was he recalled to the Germany squad, he was named captain! A West Ham player captaining Germany! Boy had we landed a prime catch! And then...well we know what happened from there, and right on the eve of the season! Tell me, how many points would Blackpool have now if Adam had been absent until February?

And, of course, international duty was to strike again, ruling Parker out of key games after he won his belated call up for England. Did he stay on the pitch for too long, anxious about his England future if he made an early exit? He hasn't been the same player since and missed vital games against Villa, Blackburn and the bulk of the Wigan game. Nine points from those three games instead of one would have seen us safe. The Parker for England drum bangers amongst West Ham fans may just have cost us our place in the Premiership.

If we are looking for bad luck, we also have to cite the disallowed Piquionne goal at Wolves. Last kick of the match, literally, and three points were reduced to one, with Wolves gifted a point. Add an extra two points to our tally and take one off Wolves and we would still be down, but who knows what effect that win might have had on the morale of the team? Then, of course, there was the sending off of Piquionne at Everton for celebrating what we all hoped would be the winner. Two more points from that game and this weekend would still be interesting. And crucially there was the failure to send off Vidic at Upton Park when we were still two goals to the good. Three points there along with the confidence surge resulting from victory over the Champions elect, and I honestly don't think we would have gone down. There were other controversial decisions along the way, but those were three HUGE calls and all three were dreadful errors by the referees concerned.

But the worst luck we suffered, I would argue, happened off the pitch and before the season kicked off. What buggered us for the entire season was the fixture list. As soon as we saw an opening round of games that read Villa away, Bolton at home, Man Utd away and Chelsea at home, we knew we were in trouble, and to make matters worse, Villa parted company with O'Neill and the team went out to try to secure the job for a back room guy they loved. Yes Reid had a mare. Yes Green was hopeless. Yes the team selection was awful. But Villa hit us like a tsunami that day and only the very best would have avoided a pasting. And after that, who could see us getting anything from Bolton, Man Utd and Chelsea, our bogey team followed by the Premiership bully boys? Not many teams recover from a position of zero points from 4 games at the start of the season; the tone is set and you are in permanent catch up mode. And so it proved.

The truth is, we shafted Lady Luck remorselessly during the Great Escape (That goal at Blackburn, Big Sam leaving Bolton on the eve of our game with them, Arsenal missing fifty million chances at their place, Johnson limping off inside the first 15 minutes in our game against Everton and United banking the title before we played them in the last game of the season) and Lady Luck strapped on one of the Davids' toys and returned the compliment this year.

Avram didn't relegate us, Fate had our number and exacted pay back; and boy were we buggered!

Avram Caught In Red Light Area

Speaking to friends, Avram has claimed that several "red lights" had warned him just how difficult the West Ham job would be due to a lack of finance for players.

It's puzzling how, exactly, massage parlour whores might have known about the club's finances - unless they worked for Sullivan and Gold to supplement their earnings of course.

Either way, it seems that Avram may have misunderstood what they meant when they said that he was welcome to go down but the whole experience might leave him with a bad taste in the mouth!

Yapping Lawton nibbles at Sullivan's ankle

I've just read Lawton's Open Letter to Sullivan in the Independent and I must say it lacks any real bite. I was expecting a pit bull style savaging and instead found only the pathetic yapping of a toy poodle.

James LawtonIf Lawton wants to attack Sullivan then he should hone in on the selling of the Boleyn, not the dismissal of a couple of managers in the space of 12 months. The point is, Grant's most savage critics argue that Sullivan and Gold invested sufficiently in the side for Grant to avoid relegation, and most of the "experts" acknowledge that we were "too good to go down". So Sullivan can hardly be blamed for our relegation nor for dismissing the man who most West Ham fans hold most accountable for it.

Zola failed as a manager; only the blinkered try to argue otherwise; and Grant failed too. And what do you do in football when managers fail? You sack them. Sullivan and Gold are hardly unique here. Indeed Lawton praises the West Brom chairman for offloading di Matteo when it became obvious to him that he lacked the necessary ability to keep the Baggies up.

It seems as if Lawton only understands one solution when a team starts to struggle - sack the manager and sack him quickly. So his logic seems to be that we would have stayed up had Grant been shown the door in January. Well, that didn't work for Hull last year did it? And at least two of Wolves, Birmingham, Wigan and Blackpool are going to survive this year, so sticking with the manager will work for two of them and maybe even three if Blackburn, who changed the manager, drop. So Lawton's logic is fundamentally flawed. And of course, had Lawton been in charge at Manchester United a couple of decades back, a certain Ferguson would have lost his job had his logic been applied!

Lawton's article rambles and betrays churlishness and intellectual snobbery. I hate that saying "You can't buy class" because the user of the phrase assumes he has it when he passes that judgement, and the very use of the cliche betrays a total lack of class. It is piss poor journalism and an insipid "attack".

Kids for a quid on Sunday?



Kids for a quid? Why is it only kids for a quid? Anybody stupid enough to turn up should be allowed in for a quid!

West Ham close in on replacement for Grant


So, with Sullivan announcing that West Ham will be recruiting a "British manager" who understands  the culture, a number of leading candidates have been ruled out. It seems that Jose Murinho has decided not to trade Madrid for East London and Pepe Guardiola has, for some reason best known to him, decided to stick it out at Barcelona, choosing to work with Messi over Spector; there's no accounting for taste!

Nor will Gus join us and even if Chelsea sack Ancelotti, he isn't heading East; nor will Wenger be tempted, or rather, if he is, he won't be considered. No, the bleedin' foreigners can bog off, Sullivan only wants a Brit. And who can blame him after Zola and Grant?

So, no foreigners then and, to avoid a repeat mistake, we had better not recruit a Catholic or a Jew. So, we are after a Protestant Brit who understands West Ham's culture. There's only one man for the job then. He's available and, crucially, he is cheap and needs a job and even Sullivan will look handsome standing alongside him. Put your money on Dowie everybody!

Tip from USA that O'Neill is West Ham's man!

I've been thinking. Not a good idea, I realize, but what better way to forget about the shite we've been asked to deal with than to dream stuff up?

Let us assume that SuGo actually realize they screwed up badly in hiring Grant. The Telegraph has an article that says he wasn't their first choice last summer anyway. The article says Bilic and McLaren turned them down. It also says Big Sam secretly agreed a deal in January but SuGo decided to stick with The Idiot (my new name for him) after O'Neill backed out. So Grant was clearly a back up plan not once, but twice.

They cannot afford to make that mistake again. They know that. While a Hughton or Dave Jones are capable, it won't accomplish certain things they are likely desperate for. Namely, good press and to rejuvenate the supporters. DiCanio would make a splash, but an inexperienced manager is also a risk they cannot take. Poyet? Good work with Brighton, but not worthy of a neon sign. Bilic? Supporters love him, but he's never managed at club level, has he?

While a big name manager will want a lot of money, the right appointment would likely create a surge in season ticket renewals and interest.

In fact, the right appointment could cause enough hope that even two years in the championship would not be considered unacceptable because there could be a feeling of finally building properly, in a way that could carry us into the OS on a high.

The right appointment could see us in the same light as Man City after they moved into their new digs, attracting a Zillionaire owner.

The right appointment is Martin O'Neill.

So for no other reason than I have zero to lose, I'm gonna PREDICT that he will join us.

Gold Plays The Scotty Card One Last Time



Absolutely pathetic to read Gold playing the Scotty card to excuse his poor decision making. He writes on Twitter:

"I honestly believed with the players we brought in in Jan + the imminent return of Hitzlsperger, we had done enough to pull clear of danger. I know that Scotty Parker shared that belief with me and we both had confidence that we would retain our Premiership status."

That reads to me like, "Please sir, Scotty told me to do it!"

Apart from the juvenile tone and the pally pally use of "Scotty", it makes you wonder who was making the management decisions and what exactly the lines of communication were. Did Gold miss Grant out and go straight to "Scotty" for his opinion?

Parker isn't even the captain for pity's sake!

Sullivan & Gold's Master Plan Comes Closer to Fruition

They have all but secured the Olympic Stadium enabling them to redevelop Upton Park and pocket the proceeds - and West Ham fans have cheered this disgraceful betrayal of our heritage and unabashed act of asset stripping; they have engineered it so the tax payers in one of the poorest boroughs in the country are funding the move to the Olympic Stadium, the same tax payers who funded the building of the original stadium; and they have now engineered a position where they can slash and burn the playing staff and suppress the wage bill.

How can we be sure this isn't all part of a master plan?

Every West Ham Fan's Wish GRANTed!

I got it wrong. I said give him time. I said the mess left behind was to blame. Bollocks. This idiot Grant couldn't organise a cock up in a massage parlour! Let's face it, he can't even get himself up for it!

Today a team that wasn't too good to go down went down. But they went down because of inept team selection, inept tactics and non existent motivation. Look at how Blackpool, Wolves and Wigan have fought to try to save themselves and look at how this Grant "inspired" mob have rolled over and died.

Sack him? They should have bundled him into a coffin, screwed the lid down tight and buried him. I doubt he would have bloody noticed!

"I still think we can get out of this. We just need to believe in ourselves and stop making the mistakes. I have never believed we will go down. It will be difficult now but if we can pick up 5 points from the last game of the season. I am sorry, the lights seem to have gone out. Is it me or is it very stuffy in here? Well if you will excuse me, I think I will have a little snooze."

Wigan 3 West Ham 2 - What a shower of sh*t!

Truly disgraceful. Truly inept. Truly shameful. Life in the coffin? Yeah it was the rats scratching to get out, desperate not to be buried with the corpse of the club they have so disgracefully let down.

Doesn't that second half sum up everything about our pathetic team of gutless, spineless, brainless losers? 2-0 at half time against Wigan and they still contrive to lose 3-2!

Tell me, why have we only played for 45 minutes in any game this season?

Tell me, what exactly does Grant say to the team at half time?

Tell me, what the fcuk was Hines doing on the pitch in such a vital game? How useless was he, and inevitably his losing possession led to the first Wigan goal. And his crossing? Hopeless!

Tell me, why can't Green work out how to line up a wall to cover one side of the goal and then deal with a shot going in the direction we all know it is going in anyway?

Tell me, why did Green try to save that N'Zogbia free kick with both hands?

Tell me, if Parker is Player of the Year, why did he set N'Zogbia for a second free kick in exactly the same spot with yet another stupid mistimed tackle?

Tell me, why was N'Zogbia allowed to cut inside and score that third goal?

Tell me, why did Gabbidon sell himself so easily for the equaliser?

Tell me, why was Cole sent on when we desperately needed a winner?

No, you don't have to tell me, I know. They are hopeless. They are brainless. They are spineless. They are gutless. And they don't give a shit!

Fulham won at Birmingham, Fate gave us our chance and this bunch of disgraceful, incompetent, lame brained cnuts spat in Fate's face and offered up their collective arses for Destiny to bugger.

Let's hear Grant explain this one. I bet he claims the N'Zogbia's free kick shouldn't have been given. He would have a point, but the trouble is, Gabbidon should have seen red for a foul when the last man and Wigan played us off the park for the whole of the second half.

You make your own luck in this world, and this lot couldn't win if betting against a deaf and blind Irishman on an action replay.

They're not fit to wear the shirt!

I have supported West Ham consciously since 1968; I no doubt supported them subconsciously whilst in the womb; as an Eastender it was impregnated in my DNA.

Over the years I have endured many miserable seasons and witnessed many abysmal performances. We could go back to that 4-0  FA Cup defeat against Blackpool, when Bobby Moore led Clyde Best and two others on a pub crawl the night before the game. The team that day read: Ferguson; Bonds, Taylor, Moore Lampard; Ayris, Lindsay, Howe; Best, Greaves, Dear. It seems even gods have their off days when they have a hangover; or that 4-3-3 was a problem even back then!

We could return instead to the 4-0 hammering at Aston Villa that started the 1976-77 season. Our team that day read: Day: Coleman, Taylor, Green, Lampard; Holland, Bonds, Curbishley, Brooking, Paddon; Alan Taylor. It seems 4-5-1 didn't work back then either!

Or perhaps we should recall the 6-0 surrender in the first leg of the League Cup semifinal at Oldham. 6-0 at Oldham! But they did finish 8th in the Prem that season, one place below ourselves. The Oldham Disgraces were: Parkes: Steward Robson, Martin, Gale, Strodder, Dicks: Brady, Keen, Devonshire; David Kelly & Slater. You see, playing without a holding midfielder didn't work then either!

We could shudder at the performance away to Everton in May 1999, when the team had already gone on their summer holidays. The embarrassments that day were: Hislop: Lomas, Rio Ferdinand, Ruddock, Minto; Sinclair, Foe, Berkovic, Lampard, Keller; Di Canio & Wright or indeed the 1-5 home hammering against Leeds the game before. But we won the last game 4-0 and finished 5th that season. Fifth with Minto starting 14 games!

There was, of course, the 7-1 tonking at Man Utd. The sacrificial lambs that day were: Forrest: Lomas, Rio, Potts, Minto; Sinclair, Foe, Lampard, Moncur; Wanchope & Kanoute. Makeshift right backs and hopeless left backs were a problem then too!

And talking 7-1, let us remember THAT game at Blackburn. Humiliation was visited upon every West Ham fan that day by a side reading: Hislop: Schemmel, Daily, Repka, Soma: Sinclair, Carrick, Moncur, Hutchison; Di Canio, Kanoute. Dear God, look at that defence! It seems lessons still have not been learned!

2007 started well of course. Players on the piss on New Year's Eve and next day, were thumped 6-0 at Reading. Green was dropped after that one! The headaches that day were: Green: Dailly, Anton Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Konchesky: Bowyer, Mulllins, Reo-Coker, Benayoun; Harewood & Zamora. No natural wide player on the left please note and a slow right back.

And we could go on and on and on. But my point is that I have never once booed the team, I have never once joined the chants of "You're not fit to wear the shirt", I have never once utterly despaired of the players representing my club. But if I was at Wigan today, I would lead the cries because this bunch have betrayed our club.

I blamed Zola last year. Sav and Stani have blamed Grant this. Others blame the owners. Some desperate fools still blame refereeing decisions. The truth is, we have a team of money grabbing, gutless, spineless, brainless bastards. And they truly are not fit to wear the shirt!

The Committal of West Ham United

Friends, we have come together for the funeral of West Ham United.

We come to mourn a relative, to honour a departed friend and to show sympathy to the bereaved.

We believe that those who die in Christ share eternal life with him. Therefore in faith and hope we come together to offer a prayer of thanksgiving and trust to God for what he has done for us in the death and resurrection of Jesus. We recall the certainty of our own coming death and judgement, and we proclaim that Christ is risen and that those who believe in him will rise with him.

Father, your love is stronger than death. Those who trust in your Son receive the gift of eternal life. Help us, as we hear your promises, to believe them and receive the comfort they offer. You are the giver of hope; fill us with joy and peace in believing, so that we may have abundant life through the power of the Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Having given thanks for the life of our club we now commit the mortal body to the Championship. Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust, in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life, through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died, was buried, and rose again for us. West Ham Conundrums

Had to smile at the report of how a Blackpool fan in the Countdown back room team organised the Conundrum to spell out PNECRISES as a dig at local rival North End's relegation from the Championship. It got me thinking about West Ham Conundrums and I've come up with a few below.  Try to rearrange the letters for a sentence about people connected with the club and our present crisis! Nani's Legacy to Blame for the Mess!

Brescia have been relegated and that says it all, the mighty Nani strikes again! How he was welcomed  by delirious West Ham fans when he arrived but Turds knew differently! And where are the players he brought to the club now?

So Diamanti has just been relegated to Seria B and Daprela managed just 8 appearances all season for the same relegated team (yet some still say he was the solution to our left back problem!). Behrami is pulling up no trees for mid table Fiorentina - but amazingly he is suddenly fit!; Di Michele went into Seria B; Kovac is arguably not worthy of a place in our reserves; LaÅ¡tůvka is growing a second head playing for Ukranian side FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk; Lopez is playing Romanian football for FC Universitatea Craiova; Tristan had to drop into the second tier of Spanish football and is now employed as a central reservation street light on a motorway somewhere in Spain; Franco couldn't find a club for ages then joined Velez and only managed one appearance before a shoulder injury put him out for the season; Jimenez is with Cesano but only managed 6 games all season; and Savio is on loan to a Bulgarian all inclusive hotel at Sandy Beach!

Ilunga? Not good enough for our squad of 25 even though that left us with NO left back cover! Which leaves da Costa who, come next September, may well be playing for 'Arry's Pentonville Mean Machine!

What a crowd of total follies.

And where is Bowyer? He has a League Cup winners medal. Etherington? Stoke are in the FA CUP Final and the top half of Prem. Bellamy? Well he's at Cardiff but he could have been at Spurs if Man City had allowed it. Collins? A rock in Villa's defence.

Many apologies that TGGC has been "down" for the last 24 hours and that some content has "gone missing". Originally, the site was hacked in a rather sophisticated and very strange way, then the entire Google blogger service went down. I have highlighted to Google the original hack but it appears that the specific problem and the general problem are unrelated.

Nevertheless, an investigation is underway based on the hack and, with luck, a repeat will be attempted and the culprit unearthed. There are some very clever guys out there devoting their energies to TGGC it seems!

Bullard illustrates West Ham's Stupidity!

It is interesting to read that we are being linked with Bullard along with Wigan & QPR. Apparently the former Hammer apprentice - who is now a ripe old 33 - fancies a return to the Prem, which kind of puts us out of the running but that's not my point.

Why are Hull City so desperate to offload Jimmy? Not because he is injury prone. Not because he is crap. Not because he is uncommitted. But because of his ridiculously high wages. And how much are they paying him? £45,000 per week.

Now I'm not saying a salary of £45k a week isn't stupid. Of course it is. Bullard is a decent player and for a season or two was a very good player, but a salary of £2,340,000 a year is absurd. I don't care how short a player's career is. Five years at £2,340,000 a year is £11,700,000. Divide that over 47 years - the average working life - and that is £248,936 a year, or as near as damn it £250,000 a year for life, for playing football at a reasonable level for five years! No wonder Beano Ashton hasn't thought about finding a job yet. Why would he?

But what is the relevance to West Ham? Well whilst Hull City are having kittens over one player on £45k a week, we have a whole host of them earning in excess of £40k a week, with Dyer, Bridge and Parker on double that amount!

What a farce. Of course we will have to have a clear out when we go down. And do you know, relegation may just suit Sullivan & Gold so they can get the wage bill under control. When you pay one player £80k a week, it becomes a benchmark for others. The club gets a reputation and agents think of a figure, double it and add £10k when you show an interest in a player. We need to go back to being Little Old West Ham for a while, get the financial house in order and then relaunch the bid for Champions League football sometime down the line.

The Championship will hurt but, longer term it may be good news. That may be the logic of Gold and Sullivan.

Hammers Going Italian

Reid to Chievo, Ba to AC Milan, anybody would think we had a decent team given who our players are being linked with! Perhaps Juve will renew their interest of a few seasons ago in Old King Cole. Daprela, Behrami and Diamanti are already in Italy of course.

Upson? The new Maldini surely? They will be forming a queue around the piazza to sign him. Green? There's some shite keepers in Seria A! Anybody see Buffon's rush of blood in the game against Chievo yesterday? And as for the Chievo keeper, he looks like a trapeze artist missing the bar every time the ball goes near him! It was a thrilling game but the error quotient was huge! And Del Piero is still playing! He must be 98!

Specs? I can see him in an Inter shirt can't you? Piquionne has a Lazio stamp on him and Boa would surely grace a Roma shirt, unless Barcelona pip them at the post! Hitz looks right up Palermo's via and Faubert would leap at the chance of Bologna, thinking it would be one long free lunch.

But what about Scotty?

Sorry Italy, Scotty's heart is in London. London N17 to be more precise!

Grant Talks Good Football Boll***s!



Listen to the idiot:

"With all due respect to Burnley and Hull I do not think they played last season at the level we have,” he said. “I don’t think anybody can say that we don’t play good football. Maybe it is not as good as the top six, but it is of a mid-table team’s quality."

“Nobody can say we were not better than Blackburn and any other teams. “OK, good football may not keep you in the Premier League, but bad football won’t for sure.” 

Doesn't he get it? Firstly, I saw precious little good football on Saturday anyway, but that's not the point. When we didn't have the ball, we were wide open to Blackburn counter attacks. The goal we conceded was pathetic. We lost possession and it was open house down the left and centre of our defence. There was no cover from the midfield offered whatsoever, and this has happened game after game after game this season!

Where was the creativity in midfield again? Good teams create chances but what did we create on Saturday exactly? Time and again the ball was lumped forward to Cole - and for a lot of the game we looked like Bolton at their worst!

Nobody can say we weren't better than Blackburn? I can! They had the best defender on the pitch in Samba, the better keeper in Robinson and they had a better shape throughout. Every time Blackburn came forward they looked dangerous to me and until Hitz buried his chance, it looked as if we would play forever without scoring. There was nothing by way of good football from what I saw.

So Grant is using the excuse that it is a stronger division, the defence I have put up for him all season. He is right but that doesn't explain why we are bottom. We are there due to poor team selection, poor tactics, poor training, poor motivation and that same old bloody obsession with 4-3-3 that saw us struggle under Zola.

We are not Barcelona. We are not Manchester United. We are not Real Madrid or Chelsea. 4-3-3 is the formation of the gods; 4-4-2 is the way to survive, and to be fair to Zola, even he seemed to accept that at the death. But not Grant. He still used Ba to "protect" Bridge and Sears to "protect" Jacobsen and, well nobody to protect da Costa and Gabbidon.

And one last question. Why didn't he compare us to Portsmouth, the team he took down last season?

Prolonging The Agony!

Oh dear God, why does this season, of all seasons, have to end so bloody late? We know we are down, we know there's no way back, we know that the Fat Lady is singing her encore, but we will still hope for as long as there is hope, and that means it may not be until May 22nd before we are finally put out of our misery!

Can't somebody just fire a bullet and end the suffering?

Sack The Board

Everyone has their personal axe to grind with the current team and I'm no different. You can blame the player, or the management but I'm a firm believer in the saying "the buck stops here" and that is with the people in charge. The Muppets, the owners.

Why blame the players? They're crap and those that aren't crap, can't play together. Whose fault is that? Grant? well who employed him eh? and while we're about it, who sacked Grant's number 2, Željko Petrović and bought in Wally Downes eh? What a signing HE'S turned out to be.And I thought Steve Clarke was crap by the time he left,but hey how come he was so good at Chelsea and now look how he's doing at Liverpool.

And while we're on about blame, who sacked legend and international goalkeeping coach Ludek Miklosko and bought in David Coles? I'm not going into David's credentials, look 'em up yourself on Wiki or any other reputable website.

And whilst I'm having a rant, who decided that we should spend little money, or rope in pathetic loanees during the summer. If you want to blame Grant for that then be my guest, but even if I'm not a fan of Grant, I don't believe he was so stupid as to not recognize the need for the team. And if he IS as stupid as all that, then again, remind me......... who employed him eh?

Hell, even after they realised that Grant maybe IS the big sh1tty manager that many of you think he is they couldn't even blow him out properly in January. Martin O'Neil, oh dearie me....you'd think after the shameful way they treated Zola they'd at least have SOME idea of how to sack someone by now. But no! They totally balls THAT one up then incredibly.........INCREDIBLY.... they keep him on. How the Hell is Grant meant to motivate HIMSELF, never mind the players knowing that he wasn't meant to still be in a job and is highly unlikely to still be IN a job even if we'd qualified for Europe? Well you could have bought in the assistant manager I suppose, but watching HIM on the touchline, he looks bored out of his skull so if Grant cant motivate, God alone knows how Groves would do

We could also look at some strange player comings and goings as well couldn't we? Who let Ilan go? Who let Diamante go? Who let Daprela go even and realising THAT cock up, eventually went out and loaned in Bridge who probably costs more in a month of wages than it would have a year of Daprelas. I could go on about the players but ultimately, you'd have thought they were the managers decisions. Well it usually would be wouldn't it? Not so sure here, who done what, but either way I know where ultimately, I'm pointing MY finger. And whats all this sacking of Roger Cross about eh? Saving money?.........

Ah. Yes. Money. Now we can get to the root of the problem. Money. Or rather the lack of it. So they saved the club did they? Look where we are heading. Down and at this rate we'll be going even further down because I can't see many players staying, I can't see Grant staying, and I can't see anyone with an ounce of common sense COMING either. Unfortunately, until the sale of the Boleyn, until the massive loan to secure a rented athletics track with half the seats ripped out, until the new luxury apartments and shopping mall is built on our old famous ground has been built, until The Muppets pocket the dosh from all of that, until then..........We're STUCK with THE BOARD. And even worse........being the owners......we CAN'T sack 'em.

Blame Mike Griffiths for the Mess at West Ham!

There's a fascinating article in the Mail on Scott Parker. In it, Scotty comes across as a thoroughly decent guy and comes close to admitting that he won the Player of the Year award by default. It is touching to read about the death of his father, particularly, in my case, because it mirrors almost exactly the death of my father - same age in the case of father and son, same prolonged illness, same morphine to combat the pain, same getting on with the job afterwards.

The most interesting thing about the article for me, however, is the credit Parker gives to Sports Psychologist Mike Griffiths, who he reveals was brought in two years ago. Two years ago? How many seasons have we been struggling for? It's two years now isn't it?

Parker talks about how "mental weakness" can "decapitate" a player and that players don't want to admit to this weakness. He then eulogises Griffiths, suggesting that he has helped "massively".

But the facts do not support what Parker is saying. For two years now, we have all moaned about the mental fragility of the players, of how they panic at the first hint of adversity. Look at them yesterday. We were not playing as a team, there were eleven individuals out there and every single one of them was in a state of panic from the moment Blackburn scored. And that has been the case, game after game for two years now.

So what is Griffiths doing exactly? Teaching Parker and his team mates not to worry if they give the ball away "three times on the bounce" in Parker's words. Well they should be worrying if they give the ball away three times on the bounce because in the Prem, that means you are going to lose!

Look at Cole yesterday. He was shot in terms of confidence. He had that half chance before Blackburn scored and he dwelt on the ball, allowing Samba to get a foot in. A confident Cole would have swung his boot. Look at Hitz who didn't even have the confidence to take that free kick. Why in God's name was da Costa allowed to blast it into the wall when the ball had "Hit me Hitz" written all over it?

What good has Griffiths done for Green? When did his form dip? Would it be about two years ago? And Upson? When did he start to look like a rabbit caught in the headlights? About two years ago? When did Sears lose his way? About two years ago? When did Behrami's form nose dive? About two year's ago?

Parker may feel that Griffiths has helped but Griffiths is no doubt very convincing when it comes to justifying his own worth but the facts scream something very different. Before Griffiths arrived, the team were playing with confidence and a carefree attitude. Remember that goal at Wigan? Post Griffiths' arrival, the team has acted out deep seated nightmares week after week after week.

It seems obvious to me that a team that is "too good to go down" has deep psychological problems, mental scars that results in them freezing and panicking in adversity. Our Cup performances showed what we can do when the pressure is off; it is pressure that destroys this team. So what good is Griffiths doing exactly?

The evidence suggests he is doing a hell of a lot of damage!

How Keane, Levy and Redknapp Plotted Our Demise!

It's not my idea, but it is a delicious conspiracy theory. As Levy fumes about the Olympic Stadium and 'Arry listens, his dismissal by West Ham still festering, a Guinness swilling Robbie Keane staggers past the office singing  "Irish Rover". 'Arry interrupts Levy and says, "I have a cunning plan".

Robbie is called into the room and water splashed over his face to bring him out of his drunken stupor. 'Arry now says, "So then Robbie, how do you fancy earning a million pound bonus for doing what you do best, missing open goals?" Robbie slurs that it sounds fine by him and Levy gets straight on the blower to Sullivan and says, "Let's let bygones be bygones, you can have Keane on loan until the end of the season."

So Robbie is the secret weapon, a fifth columnist sent to West Ham to destroy the club from within. Three sitters missed in a row and with West Ham on the doorstep of the Championship, Robbie is well on his way to earning that bonus!

Blackpool Show Us How!

Same result, 1-1, but Blackpool showed more fight in the six minutes of injury time than we have showed over the whole season. Every player was playing for the shirt, every player played with passion, determination and pride. And no little skill into the bargain.

Player for player, we are unquestionably the stronger team, but Blackpool are organised and motivated, unlike our ramshackle bunch of hollow men. They will probably still go down, but if we are honest, they deserve to stay up far more than we do. How much do you think the entire Blackpool team earns a week? Probably not as much as Dyer and Parker's combined wage!

Our Player of the Year was sitting in the stands today. Charlie Adam was out there in the thick of the battle and, inevitably, won and scored the penalty that gave Blackpool what could yet be a life saving point.

And on the subject of Parker, it is worth noting that whilst he chose to watch Chelsea play Tottenham last Saturday, a certain Jason Roberts was commentating for local radio on the Man City v West Ham game, getting very excited, apparently, at the frailties in our defence. What a shame Parker didn't get himself along to the Blackburn game to do a bit of scouting for his current team instead of watching his next team instead!

West Ham 1 Blackburn 1 Going Down With A Whimper

Eliot said it. This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper, and our team of hollow men are proving him right. Blackburn arrived with a terrible away record, but our dead men, head pieces filled with straw, made them look half decent for four fifths of the game. It was only in the last ten minutes that we came alive.

Half Time West Ham Strollers 0 Blackburn Journeymen 1 - Shameful!

This is humiliating. We have been awful and Blackburn have looked dangerous every time they have come down our left. Ba offers no protection to Bridge, why should he, he is a centre forward, and the Man City loanee looks as comfortable as he would in bed with John Terry and his wife.

Once again there is no protection in front of the back four. Every time Blackburn move into our half there is acres of space for them to run into. The situation is so desperate that I think we need Kovac to sit in there and hold. At least he would be an obstacle to go around. At the moment there is just a void.

The Blackburn goal was so easy. Emerton had the freedom of Newham to bomb down the right and centre into our six yard box and Gabbidon and da Costa between them had no idea of the where abouts of Roberts who said, thanks very much, and netted his sixth career goal against us. If he could play West Ham every week, he would be rivaling Messi for World Player of the Year.

Going forward, we are utterly gormless. Ba is out of position wide left and Cole is a totem pole up front on his own. There is no creativity in midfield with Boa and Specs offering huff and puff and Hitz looking ordinary. Sears is running around and actually forced a save from Robinson - his only meaningful save of the half - but, that apart, we have been shite.

And the decision making is woeful, illustrated perfectly by two free kicks. One offered Hitz the opportunity to whip in a cross and instead it was played short to, of all people, Gabbidon! And the other, three yards outside the box, centre of the goal with "Hit me please Hitz" written all over the ball, and da Costa blasted it against the wall. What the fcuk?

What can we do to get back into this? Get Cole off, he hasn't scored in 8 games and looks like his confidence is running on zero. Move Ba inside, bring on Keane and bring on Collison for Specs. Go 4-4-2, Boa wide left, Sears wide right and pray!

Grant Goes For Broke - Relegation and Financial Catastrophe!

Well I am now pretty convinced that Grant is after revenge! The team for today says to me, "I don't give a toss if we lose or draw and go down". It may work, the gods may smile on us, but I can't see the logic in a number of decisions in his team selection today personally.

If Tomkins is fit enough for the bench, why is Gabbidon starting? The team looks like 4-3-3 to me again, with Ba stranded out on the left. Why when we need goals? Is Carlton going to take the half chances that fall to him in the box?

It may be a 4-4-2, with Boa on the left, Sears on the right and Hitz and Specs in midfield but I doubt it. Almost certainly, Hitz is anchoring  in a 4-5-1, 4-3-3 formation which means we lose his goal scoring ability further up the field.

My worry is that we will be vulnerable at set pieces and will struggle to score with this team. This is Grant's team to win the most important game in the club's history:

No Points Deduction For QPR

Guilty on two charges but no points deducted. What the fcuk? After the benchmark of the Tevez affair, the rules were clarified and QPR have breached them. This vindicates the decision not to deduct us points and makes a nonsense of the ruling that we had to compensate Shafting United, although that idiot Duxbury reached an out of court settlement of course!

I have nothing against QPR, but if they are guilty, then they can have no mitigation. The rule hadn't been tested when we signed Tevez; it was crystal clear when QPR brought in their Argie.

Something is very wrong here and you can bet your life the lawyers will be preparing a case.

West Ham v Blackburn. The Biggest Game Ever!

I know that is a bold statement, especially after the Great Escape season, but every other game, including those epic Great Escape matches, is in the past and, if we don't win today, there is no foreseeable future.

It really does come down to today. If we win, survival becomes a live possibility. If we don't, we are as dead as a fish on a plate in a restaurant.

Go back to the Great Escape season and this is the equivalent of the Bolton game. We had to win it and early goals put us in good heart. That season, Allardyce had just left Bolton - replaced by Mini Me Sammy Lee - and this season, Big Sam has been shown the door by Blackburn. Maybe that's a sign! Maybe!

I am worried though. I am worried about Blackburn corners and a big bugger named Samba. The clever money would be on him to score if he plays, wouldn't it?

So I suspect we will need to score at least twice to win. Cole will probably play in order to help us defend corners. To score twice, Ba simply has to play down the middle with him. If he doesn't, who else will score?

Will Grant risk the mercurial Obinna? If your life depended on somebody, would Victor be your chosen man? He may have a heroic first name but he has an addled brain!

Will Parker be risked? If he can walk, he must play, irrespective of Redknapp's instructions!

Can we win? Of course. Must we win? Absolutely; even a draw puts us down. Will we win? My heart says yes but my stomach is in revolt. And I must sign off now, because the fish I ate last night appears to be disagreeing with me!

West Ham v Blackburn. Come in Jim Devine!

Please Jim, we need you! We will roll out the red carpet for you, give you a free flat in the soon to be built Boleyn Mansions complete with an inflatable Karren Brady doll, and promise you a running track-side seat in the Olympic Stadium. And no, I'm not talking about the lying, cheating bastard of a Labour MP who is now doing time for his part in the expenses scandal!

Golden Shower - It Never Rains But It Pours At Upton Park

Fair play to Gold: when put on the spot, he accepts the buck stops with him. He "thought" he had "done enough" in January and that we had a squad good enough to get out of trouble. The problem is, why did he wait until January? Had we STARTED with our present squad, we would be safe by now. But Sullivan and Gold tried to save the pennies and now it's likely to cost them millions.

Meanwhile Grant doesn't think we should be in the bottom three. Somebody should tell him that your place in the table is determined by the number of points you have, then he might grasp the concept of getting your just deserts.

And back to Gold, he admitted that Parker is off in the summer if we go down. No surprises there, of course, but it does put a question mark against that Mr West Ham tag doesn't it? Why was he at Stamford Bridge sat next to Jamie? Question answered!

Holloway or Warnock? Do me a favour!

So, by the end of this season, what will Holloway and Warnock have in common? Both would have managed teams to relegation from the Premiership; just like Grant when we appointed him. So why, if we stay up, would we appoint either of them?

Yes, if we go down, I can see sense in appointing Warnock. He would bully us to promotion. But you'd want to get rid pretty quickly afterwards, as it seems QPR may be considering doing.

Talking about our next manager at this stage is stupid because who you go for hinges entirely on whether or not we survive. If we stay up, assuming Grant is jettisoned, then O'Neill would have to be the ideal man, given Jose would be unlikely to join.

And if we go down? Warnock would be my choice I admit because I've had my fill of principles and values! And as for Ollie, I spent my formative years in Zumerset and was bullied by teachers for my Cockney accent whilst all the turnips in the class whined, "Oi don't know about that laaaattttt". The idea of one of those turnips managing our club fills me with horror. At least Turds arrived in a brown Volvo towing a caravan, Ollie would drive down Green Street in his brand new bleedin' combine 'arverster. Ooo arrrh!

Dyer to sue West Ham over injury misdiagnosis?

Kieron Dyer may be planning to launch a legal action against West Ham for loss of earnings due to misdiagnosis of an injury that kept him out of action for the bulk of a season and led to further complications due to inappropriate treatment.

The frustrated England superstar has had to get by on a basic salary of just £80,000 per week for three seasons now, unable to realise potential win and goal scoring bonuses whilst lying on the club's treatment table. Apart from the hit to his bank balance, Dyer has also had to suffer the mental anguish involved in doing absolutely nothing week in, week out, month after month, year after year, since his £6m move to West Ham.

Whilst Dyer has not, as yet, given any indication that he will instigate proceedings, West Ham's Law of Sod says this is inevitable!

QPR Keen on Keane

They can have him! £6m for a 31 year old striker who misses sitters? It's daylight Robbiery!

Mind you the Irishman will probably be thoroughly confused about the prospect of playing for Rangers in hoops; and a few of his Catholic mates from across the water, or over the border, might get the wrong idea and send a ticking parcel through the post. Mind you, that's probably the only way Keane would be explosive in the Prem next season.

The guy looks a shot bullet to me; QPR are welcome to him.

Sullivan Admits He Couldn't Be Ars*d!

Well that's all right then. Sullivan, Brady and Gold didn't turn up for Sunday's game because our away form is so poor and there was nothing to be gained from travelling up to Manchester to watch a game that they apparently knew we were going to lose anyway! Is it any wonder the team started the game as if they were already dead and buried?

But let's face it, as Sullivan pointed out, ONLY 1,100 West Ham fans made the trip. That's 1,100 more than our Board mustered! And it is probably the same 1,100 who travelled up for the Bolton game. But they didn't let that discourage them did they. Made of sterner stuff clearly!

Sullivan points out that he and his fellow directors are not "£20k-£60k-a-week footballers". Too true! They are £20k-£60k a week pornographers! And I shouldn't think many of the 1,100 fans who made the journey make as much in a year as Gold and Sullivan make in interest never mind earnings!

It was just too much effort to board a private jet to get up to the game when it was being shown on TV apparently. Compare that to a six hour coach journey you insensitive cnut!

The guy is fcuking unbelievable. Somebody should point out that our home form is bloody awful too, then perhaps he can stay away from Upton Park as well!

Still the money has gone to a charity for terminally ill children apparently. Makes a change from it going to a terminally ill football club I suppose.

Congratulations to Norwich - a real family club!

It will hurt like Hell if they take our place in the Prem but congratulations are due to Norwich after achieving promotion to the Premiership tonight, thanks to a 1-0 victory at Portsmouth. That is back to back promotions for the country bumpkins who can't even boast about owning tractors! One amazing stat that illustrates their fighting spirit is the fact that they have scored in the 89th minute no less than twelve times this season. Now that is a never say die attitude!

Lambert has done a fantastic job since taking over and looks to be a management star of the future. If he has any sense, he will take another job quickly as I suspect the Canaries will fall off their perches in the top division. But good luck to them regardless.

How long is it since Norwich were in the Prem? Amazingly only 6 years! It just shows what you can achieve when a club is well run, well managed and when fans retain their faith. Hopefully we will not have to sink as far as Norwich did before we rise again but we should take a look at what they have done this year and learn a lesson.

Graham Paddon will be smiling in Heaven tonight. Please God we can sort things out so he watches Norwich play West Ham in the Prem next season!

Board Boycott Game



That says it all. The Manchester City Board were happy to put Arab - Jewish enmity to one side and host Messers Gold, Sullivan, Brady & Brown at a right Royal shindig that would have put the Wedding to shame - and our Board couldn't even be arsed to show up for the game!

Perhaps they were deep in discussion with Daniel Levy over the deal to take Parker to Spurs? Perhaps they were interviewing replacements for Avram having advertised the vacancy in the Newham Job Centre and the Jewish Chronicle? Or perhaps they were in their counting houses, eating bread and honey? Who knows. But unlike our long suffering travelling fans, they weren't prepared to offer the team and manager support in the hour and a half of need.

Still, there was a bloody good match on TV that afternoon so perhaps they were just following Parker's example, choosing to watch two good teams do battle rather than the crap Avram and the boys serve up week in week out!

Only at West Ham! Our form dips when da Costa replaces Tomkins but Grant persists anyway. Result, we lose four on the bounce and the fans vote da Costa player of the month!

Then, by way of coincidence or a deliberate poke in the fans' collective eyes - he must surely have known the result - Grant drops da Costa to the bench for the Man City game!

Then Upson pulls up lame - nasty game where Man City look like scoring lots of goals - and da Costa comes on and is arguably our man of the match.

Grant. What ever he does is wrong!

The Team to Win Three Cup Finals and Survive

Blackburn at home, Wigan away, Sunderland at home. It could be worse!

So it is now a three game season and to stay up we have to win two and draw one - at least! There's no place for tinkering and buggering around now, we need a settled team that is 100% committed and prepared. We are stuck with the manager and we are stuck with Downes and we are stuck with the injuries so certain players can't be selected.


The question is, what would be the best team and formation to bring home the points?

For me, it is quite straight forward. We have to stop shipping goals and pick a team with the ability to knock them in at the other end. Keeping out the opposition is crucial which means we have to protect a vulnerable back four. And who is the best holding midfielder in England? Well outside of Essien! Scott Parker.

So Scotty is first on the team sheet but not in the role he has been used in all season by Grant. He must play as he played for England - with discipline throughout the 90 minutes, even if things are not going great further up the field. If the opposition don't score, we only need one to win. It may not be the West Ham way but bugger principles. Parker's role must be to sweep in front of the back four and give short safe passes, enabling us to platform attacks. At all times, he must have three midfielders and two strikers ahead of him when we have the ball. Under NO circumstances must we lose the ball and allow strikers to run unchallenged at our centre backs.

Up front we need goals. That rules out Cole. We may only get two chances in the entire game so we want players who you would back to take them. Keane has missed three sitters in two games so he starts for me as he is overdue a goal and, given he can't play in a 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 formation, he needs a striker up top with him. Ba has to come off the flank and play down the middle. He is our best goalscorer so he must be allowed to operate in areas where he is most likely to get a chance. Give him a chance in the box and he is likely to take it so get him in the bloody box!

Now we come to the tricky bit, the defence and how we set up the midfield. Well, without Noble, Dyer and O'Neil, we are not exactly spoilt for choice in the middle of the park are we? But Brady knew we didn't need another midfielder! Hitz starts obviously, albeit it he has been less than brilliant recently. He would be my man to take the ball from Parker and orchestrate the play, the midfield general. Alongside him, Spector has to play. The guy has the legs and gets into the box to support the strikers. Next to him? I would go with Sears given Collison isn't ready and Obinna is shit.

My formation would be 4:1:3:2 or 4:1:2:1:2 with Sears in the more advanced role.

And so to a back four which, after today, would include da Costa over Tomkins and Upson, if fit, for his experience. Then it is Jacobsen and Bridge on the flanks.

Man City 2 West Ham 1 No Parker, More Collective Effort

Interesting isn't it? When he plays, Parker looks as if he is the only one playing; when he doesn't, the rest of the team step up to the plate, especially when Upson exits stage left too! I wonder why that is?

I'm not going to pretend that we were brilliant or even unlucky here, but two goals down after 14 minutes we were all expecting an avalanche, and instead, 11 players stood tall and fought as hard as their limited ability allowed.

The same old problems persisted of course. We were vulnerable down the left flank because nobody bothered to buy a left back, and there was a huge gap between our back four and midfield four because nobody was holding. Why is that? I can't explain it. It is easy enough to resolve. You simply appoint a player and say, at all times you MUST have the other three midfield players in advance of you; and if you do range ahead of one, you yell at him to fill in, not go forward with you. Perhaps it was to accommodate Parker that the basics were abandoned. I don't know but at times Toure, Silva and Johnson had acres of ground to play in.

But that apart, and Boa apart, we played pretty well from the fifteenth minute onwards. Indeed, for the middle period of the game, we were in control, actually enjoying more possession than Unreal City. Primark looked more stylish than Armani at times!

True City hit the bar and true we were lucky to clear it off the line, but you can't argue with the desire when THREE defenders run back twenty yards to form a wall on the bloody goal line! And if Hitz had delivered his free kicks and corners better, we might actually have nicked a point. Overall, it was a very creditable performance, based around COLLECTIVE effort.

Ba took his goal well but made a hash of a chance superbly created second half by Sears. Keane missed a sitter after Spector laid it on a plate for him with a better pass than Parker has played all season. Cole's effort was goal bound until Lescott blocked it. Hart was stretched to clear a Hitz free kick and if he hadn't got there, da Costa would have had a good chance of heading home, and the woman beater also forced a Hart save with another header. We didn't create as many chances as at Chelsea but we certainly held our own for 70% of the game.

So, we looked decent at Chelsea and were unlucky to lose by a three goal margin; and we acquitted ourselves well against Man City and achieved good damage limitation in terms of goal difference; and what was common to both games? No Parker.

So Parker carries the team, but perhaps he carries the team to nowhere. Sometimes less is more and if Parker did less and held midfield effectively, I reckon we would be much higher in the table now. He may be Player of the Year but at what cost to the team?

Player ratings: Green 6: Jacobsen 6, Tomkins 6, Upson 5, Gabbidon 6; Sears 6, Hitz 6, Spector 7, Boa 4, Ba 6; Keane 5 Subs: da Costa 8, Cole 6, Obinna 0

And I accept the individual ratings don't look that good. We need a separate rating for team effort which I would rate at 8!

Half Time Man City 2 West Ham 1 - The Sheep Bites Back!



Well, to be fair, there wasn't a lot we could do about the first goal, except I'm always surprised at the huge void we leave outside our box at corners. Mind you, not many goals have been smashed in from outside the box against us - probably because it is so easy to pick a pass into our six yard box!

When the second goal went in, on 14 minutes, with Upson limping and Gabbidon dreaming, it looked like City were on for ten. Now we might keep them down to three, four or five!

Keane missed a sitter. Lovely ball through from Specs, Keane one on one with Hart and he finished like Cole! Then, a minute later, Lescott handled a Hitz cross into the box (from deep), ball broke to Ba and he finished like a striker! 2-1, game on!

City have looked nervous defending corners which gives us hope but Toure, Silva and Johnson have far too much space when the Unreal boys have the ball. Once again, the failure to designate somebody to hold is costing us.

Upson is off. Well, two goals down he didn't fancy it did he? To be fair, da Costa has looked more assured than Tomkins so far.

And for the worst pass of the year, see Boa's attempt to play in Ba. Overhit and misdirected! That was a real chance to equalise until Boa did what Boa does best - cocked up!

Interesting team. Presumably we are setting up 4-4-2, in which case it is a bold move by Grant.

So even now no place for Obinna. He's clearly not staying next season! Is da Costa injured or has Grant simply come to his senses?

Only one way out now...

...after Blackburn's victory, we have to hope and pray that the wheels fall off big time for Wolves, Wigan and Blackpool. Three victories will keep us up regardless and we have three winnable games but, as Shearer said on MOTD last night, we keep losing or drawing winnable games.

It was good to hear Steve Bruce writing off the rest of the season. That has to help us for that must win game at Upton Park. The Everton equaliser at Wigan was huge for us. Yes it was a point gained for Wigan but it was also two vital home points lost. That may mean that two home wins and an away draw at Wigan may yet be enough.

Kean sees Blackburn's game at Upton Park as their Cup Final. Any sort of result for them and they stay up. Anybody remember the name of the officials in that game at Blackburn in the Great Escape season? We could do with them on board again! Handball, offside, stopped on the line - no matter, goal to West Ham!

I'm already grey, I aint got a lot of hair left on my head. I fancy my pubes may fall out before this season ends! Still, at least West Ham would have a Brazilian in the ranks!
