Let us assume that SuGo actually realize they screwed up badly in hiring Grant. The Telegraph has an article that says he wasn't their first choice last summer anyway. The article says Bilic and McLaren turned them down. It also says Big Sam secretly agreed a deal in January but SuGo decided to stick with The Idiot (my new name for him) after O'Neill backed out. So Grant was clearly a back up plan not once, but twice.
They cannot afford to make that mistake again. They know that. While a Hughton or Dave Jones are capable, it won't accomplish certain things they are likely desperate for. Namely, good press and to rejuvenate the supporters. DiCanio would make a splash, but an inexperienced manager is also a risk they cannot take. Poyet? Good work with Brighton, but not worthy of a neon sign. Bilic? Supporters love him, but he's never managed at club level, has he?
While a big name manager will want a lot of money, the right appointment would likely create a surge in season ticket renewals and interest.

In fact, the right appointment could cause enough hope that even two years in the championship would not be considered unacceptable because there could be a feeling of finally building properly, in a way that could carry us into the OS on a high.

i think your write, o niel would probably be 1st choice, but i dont think he will take the job. the wolly with the brolly so i understand it wasnt even offerd the job, thank god. houghton maybe the man, but what about martin allen ? he would pick up and motivate the dressing room and has proven himself as a good manager over the last few years, already saving two clubs from the drop this year. bring in the mad dog.
Good article Dave, and I think a good choice. I would make 'Big Sam' the second choice, if they had given him the job in January he would have instilled sufficient back bone into the side to keep us up.
Wait a minute! I have agreed with The SuGo's January preferences. That should bring in some condemnation.

There is just one little thing wrong with this solution. Why on earth would Martin O'Neill, who has disassociated himself from the club in January after the total screw up by the owners, now want to come to be employed by these idiots in managing a Championship team whose best players would be long gone? Something surely doesn't fit!

That fight at West Hams dinner party last night sounded funny, apparently robert green tried to hold someone back but let them slip through hes fingers, then carlton cole tried to punch someone and missed, super scotty parker was fighting them all on hes own, matty upson just stood around and watched as usual, then robert green dropped one, kieron dyer couldn't go because no wheelchairs were permitted, and wayne bridge refused to shake anyone's hand at the end of the night, hahaha from Wayne the Happy Hammer!!!

James Lawton & Mark Flemming in the Indi today have it about right I reckon, plus the article in the mail online about Silkman. Try as I might, I can't pick anything positive out of those three summaries.
But I will always support WHU, in spite of the owners. As a 65 year old, still 'local', it's only the same story I've been seeing since the early 1970s - the shabby treatment of Bobby Moore, then [even shabbier] John Lyall, the sacking of Rednapp [although if you lie down with dogs....], the appointment of Roeder, the Brown/Joorabchian'deal', and the recent super-shambles.
No confidence that the prono chumps will get things even half-right in the future either.

Sav, I totally see your point. But I thought the same thing in January. NO WAY he even considers us. But he did. And everyone loves redemption, even SuGo I bet. This is their chance, and maybe they are willing to not only pay for it but to be humble in the process.

Why would O'Neill come to a financially ravaged club with utter morons as owners playing in the second division? The git complained about lack of funds at Villa, is he going to syphon transfer funds out of Ms. Brady's arsehole? The best you'll get is Dowie, prepare for another relegation battle :)
I hate to have to agree with Tottenham Jim guy, but he is right.
Dave, you have probably been in the States for quite a long time now and you forgot how differently people make decisions on this side of the Atlantic. I have spent quite a lot of time in the States myself and I understand that a forward looking entrepreneur in the USA would take such decisions and the risks that go with it. Unfortunately, over here, owner/managers (and particularly these ones) are too conservative and guard their precious money. That is what they opted to do in January, remember? They failed to see the bigger picture and took a chance on the Club going down!
It is a crime, because I am sure that just about anyone else other than Grant would have saved us.
Sav, I never said my prediction was logical. But look at it this way. O'Neill has been unemployed for the whole season. Which EPL job do you suspect could open up that he would be willing to wait for? I wonder about Bruce at Sunderland, so that is a possibility. But from an ego standpoint, I'm not certain that is too much of a step up from us in the Championship. When King Kenny proved himself, that saw O'Neills next dream gig disappear in my opinion.
With Fernandes admitting talks of investment, and the O'Neill rumors floating about with talk of a large bonus for promotion, you could be seeing a radical shift in SuGoBrady's philosophy. They BLEW this! In almost awe inspiring fashion. That level of failure CAN create massive change because the pressure for such change is too great. Kind of like doubling down in poker.
