I know Marlon is not everybody's first choice as a potential signing, but I would be pleased to see him return to the fold for the following reasons:
1) We desperately need to bolster our attacking options.
2) Unlike Sears, Marlon is big and powerful.
3) Unlike Franco, Marlon has pace.
4) Unlike Dixon, Marlon is fit and has scored in the Prem.
5) Marlon would complement Carlton or Franco. He will run the channels (remember when Pardew played him on the right wing) and feed off Cole's knock downs.
6) The guy may be clumsy and somewhat profligate in front of goal, but defenders know they are in a match when he is on the pitch. Marlon "has a go" and will mix it. Faced with both Carlton and Marlon, a few defenders will think, no thanks!
7)Marlon's record of 18 goals from 50 starts for us in the Prem isn't bad, which is why O'Neill paid £4m for him. It hasn't worked out for him at Villa and he hasn't looked great at Newcastle either, but Zola might be able to wave a magic wand over him and get him playing again. Like Cole, Harewood has the basics to succeed, what he is lacking is self belief. Maybe a return to the club where he has enjoyed most success might do the trick.
8) Marlon was very nearly in England's last World Cup squad with Walcott only just getting the nod ahead of him. That suggests there is some untapped talent there!
9) How sick would we feel if he went to Hull and shot them to safety?
10) It would cheer Carlton up. One look at his team mate and he would think, "God, I'm a handsome bugger!"
I say go for it; but don't let him take a penalty!

On transfer policy Zola is quoted as saying:
"We will have an important meeting next week and will see what we can do."
Oh dear - you would have thought that there would been a chat before Xmas to sort something out. By next week it will be half time in the transfer window.
I remember Harewood most for all those missed chances. Hopefully he is not the best option available. Mutu, Gudjohnsen or Kezman on loan are other possibilities that have been mentioned. We are being linked with someone from Belarus today.
Anyway let's hope the meeting goes well next week.

You got my vote for getting Marlene. I was actually talking to some illogical numpty on the org about why we need him back after his reply to my suggestion of "why not" "because he's feckin shite". Maturity at its finest!
We all know that Marlon is not the perfect striker, but he can give us a lot more than what we have available at present (as HF points out). Moreover, he is someone we can afford and realistically go for. Although he has his shortcomings Harewood can save us just as Hartson did when we were in a similar situation a long time ago. I would much prefer Tevez but I don't think it is the time for dreaming.

He'll be useful but if we're aiming for Europe in a couple of seasons then Marlon would probably have to either move on or have a limited role in just a season or two. If there is any truth in Zola enquiring about him then I think it's because Zola feels he can transform him in a similar way he did with Cole. I'm not sure he'll get that far but he'll do a job for us. Let's just say we could have already done with Marlon for a number of games this season.
i saw marlene play week in week out and his languid style was frustrating and smacked of lack of effort, just ask the barcodes. plus he wasted many opportunities and strangely for a big lump he seemed to play better out on the wing. We got to be going forward, no need to look back to him - if he had any bollox we would have won that FA cup final, he just needed to stick his boot out!!!...

The only true Hammers have the right idea about Marlon. Phil Brown at Hull chasing him says it all. He wanted to go the Wigan for Christ sake.Marlon found his chances more limited during the 08/09 season. He didn't even start a single Premier League match, in any of his 14 appearances in all competitions, says it all. Wolves don't even want him and they are going down that's how Mick McCarthy sees his usefulness in a relegation battle. If we have to rely on bringing him back & that move is made by Zola the powers that be at West Ham should really consider Zola's ability and judgement
Pardew must have been one hell of a manager then because we got to an FA Cup Final and finished ninth in the Prem with Harewood playing up front. Who scored the goal in the semifinal? But no true Hammer values that season at all do they?
No doubt about it HF. Pardew did a great job that year and the players "over performed" for him. It all went badly wrong the following season though...
