Two Goal Barrera Is Solid Gold
Ok, make sense of this if you can. England would only have narrowly defeated the USA last summer but for the stunning contribution of Rob Green, creating hardly any chances after the early Gerrard strike, yet Mexico trounced them 4-2 last night in the Gold Cup final, with a certain Pablo Barrera scoring twice!
I have been saying for some time that we got the wrong guy, sent a doppelganger found working in Taco Bell. Sullivan should now insist on finger prints, blood tests and biometric screening when the little Mexican claiming to be Barerra rocks up for training for the new season.
If, of course, Barerra ever returns. He has been in the shop window over the past couple of weeks and a number of Spanish clubs are bound to have been impressed. Would anybody be surprised if Barrera now secured a move and, over the next couple of seasons, developed into a true world beater? El Sod's Law may be about to strike again!

I watched that game from my kitchen last night. I truly despise Mexico in the same way you guys over there hate Germany. They play dirty football. Last night Freddy Adu took an intentional boot to the face coutresy of one of their goons. That said, they were the far better side. At 2-0 up, I called my fellow Hammer friend and said "I hate two nil up". I feel like Im watching us. Even though Im American, he knew what I meant by "us".
But seeing Barrera play like that was salt in my wound. I hope to hell that Sam watches the tapes and says "well bloody hell, he isnt going anywhere yet". Maybe a proper manager can let him shine for us as well. Does anybody have any inside info on his deal? Is there a release clause that can screw us over again?
Barrera was always a very good player HF. It's just that Avram didn't have a clue how to use him. He played him out of position and in a formation different from the one that can bring out the best in him. I saw the USA v Mexico match last night and Pablo was definitely the best player on the field (with Dossantos coming a very close second - he didn't get to play at all with Harry at Spurs by the way!). I hope we can keep him because we need players like these if we want to hope to bounce right back.
he will be off to spain, we should be able to get our money back on him, we signed nolan to play behind the striker for next year and from what i have seen in english football he is not a winger
LOL How did I know it would be Grant's fault in your eyes Sav? You'll be telling us all next that Grant took Greece into the Euro!
So what's your theory then HF? That he was playing bad on purpose? Of course it is the manager's fault if he couldn't bring the best out of a gifted and apparently very special player.
No, Avram Grant is not responsible about the Euro and the state of the Greek economy. According to you, he is not responsible about the shit that we are currently in either.
It would be much easier to say I was wrong. Try it sometimes. It doesn't hurt. That's how you keep annoying people.
So it was Pardew's fault that Mascherano was shit at West Ham? And Curbishley's fault of course. Who is better, Tevez or Barrera? But how long did it take Tevez to settle into the British game? Didn't it take Ronaldo a season to settle in too? Shit manager that Ferguson! Henry didn't pull up trees initially for Arsenal did he? Wenger must be crap then!
The thing is Sav, I am so rarely wrong. That's what REALLY gets up people's noses!
Don't flatter yourself.
Yoyu haven't answered my point about how long it takes players to bed in to the English game Sav.
I haven't because it is irrelevant to what I said about Avram Grant being clueless how to use such skills in a team. He was trying to develop Spector into an attacking midfielder rather than give a proper chance to Barrera to show his qualities. Brilliant!
The trouble is Sav, every time he played for West Ham, he was shit, just like Mascherano. If you give a player a number of chances and he can't even get the basics right - not beating the first man when trying to cross, passing to the opposition, shooting when he should pass and passing when he should shoot - what do you do? None of that is down to the manager. The Taco Bell employee who wore a West Ham shirt was not the Pablo Barerra who plays for Mexico. That's not down to Grant.
the Barrera phenomenon: diamond or turd?
Sav and HF,
placing your "lovers tif" to one side for a couple of minutes have you considered this:
Ok, so having seen Barrera playing for Mexico, we can all agree that the boy can play a bit perhaps? In fact one could argue that, given his recent performances in his green shirt, he has even stood out as a bit of a diamond. So then what the hell happens when this 'diamond' dons his claret & blue shirt?
Well I think that maybe we only need to look 'un poco' south to his Latin American cousin, SeƱor Messi for the answer. We've all witnessed Messi's brilliance sparkling at Barcelona, Messi is undoubtedly a diamond! So what happens to him when he plays for Argentina? Not so much the diamond there is he? The fact is that when at Barca he is surrounded by other shiny stones that help him to stand out and sparkle the brightest. When at Argentina however he's amongst not so many shiny stones and even a few "rocks". Unfortunately, for Argentina, the dust from these few "rocks" are covering Messi's "sparkle". Maybe, this is the obvious answer to why Messi never really 'kicks' it for his country.
Apply this parallel then, if you will, to Barrera. I'm not comparing Barrera to Messi of course, but then we could hardly compare West Ham, last season, to Barcelona or even Argentina could we? So let's just say that if you chuck a "shiny stone" into a "bucket of turds", that shiny stone is going to lose it's sparkle!
Luckily for us that bucket got dropped recently and the majority of those turds fell out. the only concern is this: how many of the shiny stones will fall out as well? and will most of those turds be replaced with new shiny stones? or just more 'old turds'?
Erm I think you'll find that a manager is a person who directs or manages an organization, industry, shop, team, people etc.,
A manager is a person who controls the business affairs of an actor, entertainer, etc
A manager is a person who controls the training of a sportsman or team, getting the best out of the players and the team.
A manager is a person who has a talent for managing efficiently the skills of his team and his players ensuring that they perform to the best of their abilities.
Do me a favor could you HF before you post my previous comment (10:48)? Please replace the last paragraph of it with this one:
Unfortunately for us that bucket recently got dropped - but luckily though the majority of those crusty turds fell out. The only concern for us now is this: how many of our shiny stones will fall out of the bucket as well? Also will most of those turds be replaced with new shiny stones? or just more stinky old turds?
Dave, it's not that easy. I have to post, save, amend, repost, send to trash your original comment - and sign out of my ID! Too much bother, it reads perfectly well as it is.
Lover's tiff? Sav is far too old for me!
What a relief!
