Where was McCarthy?
Interesting that Benni wasn't on the bench today. Wonder where he was?
Still eating his Christmas dinner perhaps?

The bloke is a complete joke. What did ZOLA actually pay for him? £5 m wasn't it? He has done absolutely sod all since he has been here.Is he still injured or just not fit?
No, we signed him on Zola's recommendation! Sulliavn was very clear that McCarthy was signed at the specific request of the manager. Ilan was foisted on Zola, which is why Zola was so relectant to start him!
Happiness rating is very unfair! I was delighted McCarthy was nowhere near the team!
Zola's recommendation HF? Sullivan was taking recommendations from Zola? Really? I dont think their relationship was like that HF...which you know of course.
"Benni will be a threat in the last third. He is a player who can score goals and he will be a very good help for us," added Zola. Maybe he meant, "Benni will be a threat to the last course."
Zola on McCarthy when we signed him: "We are a very young team. We have a lot of young players in our squad so I thinkk it's not wrong that we bring iinsomebody with the experience, football knowledge and also goals. So I think it's a good choice...I think it will be a big help for Carlton...they can be a big asset for us...I think he's got quality which is what I'm looking for...He's got goals in the bag and that's what I need right now, and that's what I'm going to be asking him to produce for us."
"Another striker who joined West Ham in January, Benni McCarthy, and another who appears to have weight issues, managed to secure a more lucrative 2½-year contract, not bad for a 32 year-old who became surplus to requirements at Blackburn Rovers.
McCarthy was being paid £45,000 a week at Ewood Park, their highest-earner, and is on comparable wages now, including a payment of £250,000 for his image rights. An expensive deal for a club which, Sullivan claimed, was £110 million in debt when he took over and where he has suggested the players should take a 25 per cent pay-cut. The justification for such generosity appears to be that McCarthy was apparently manager Gianfranco Zola’s No 1 choice."
"West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola says any new signing will be his choice.
Zola has personally given his approval to the imminent deals for Benni McCarthy (West Ham) and Benjani Mwaruwari (Manchester City).
"The players that come in have to be my choice, but the new owners have been very co-operative," added Zola. "Strikers were a priority, and the owners know that. I trust them. We have kept in close contact and speaking every day, exchanging information. They're working to make the team stronger."
You're deliberately acting naive here HF. Zola wasn't exactly going to say anything else was he?
Let's compare it to the Downes appointment recently. We all know it was G&S who said to Avram he was coming in, but they had to make it out in the media that it was a suggestion to Avram and that he is the one that interviewed Downes and it was his choice. Of course it bloody wasn't.
Also, we all expected McCarthy to do something. Obviously Zola was speaking on the proviso that the lump would get fit but if a guy decides to take the p*ss then what can we do. He was even sent back from the World Cup. The fact that it hasnt worked out means G,S and McCarthy himself have to take a lot of the blame.
Evidence, I asked for evidence, not your opinion. Why didn't Zola say the same things about Ilan and Mido? Why did they come on paltry packages but McCarthy was paid a Burger King's ransom?

£2m in cash I think mate. And £3m in Mcdonalds gift vouchers!
Apparently, according to the official site, Mccarthy had a muscle problem.
His muscles can't carry all those burgers and christmas dinner!
fat slob
ZOLA didn't sign him.
HF happy rating: 0

That's right 10:15, Sullivan signed him.

The point was made, when we signed McCarthy, that it was at the specific request of Zola. The same point was NOT made about Mido or Ilan.

"I think it will be a good partnership because Cole is strong and skilful and McCarthy is also smart and skilful," Zola said.
"Hopefully this week we're going to work on the fitness and on Saturday they are going to be good."

“Of course I have the final say. When it comes to football, I tell the owners my preferences and which players I want,” Zola told the Daily Mirror.
So Stani, where is YOUR evidence that McCarthy wasn't the chooice of Zola and Clarke?
