Another Day and Still No New Faces

Ok so we have Faye and Nolan but with all the departures, the squad is looking distinctly threadbare. There's been talk of seven new signings, and last week the club suggested we were closing in on three players, but since then, nothing. One target eluded us: Mucky-Smith is at Brighton. We are still chasing DJ Campbell apparently, but he wants Premiership football. Who else?

Some will say it is too early to panic but the season kicks off in a month's time - and we don't want the players meeting each other for the first time on the eve of the big kick off!

The problem almost certainly centres on our failure to raise funds from sales. I'm sure Boycie and Del Boy were banking on receiving £14million for Scotty & Carlton but so far interest in both has been luke warm. With Ilunga rumoured to be the next one to leave and Faubert likely to follow him out of the door, you have to wonder if we will be able to cobble a team together to play Cardiff!

Sam said today that he's hoping to persuade Green, Parker and Cole to stay... I bet that's music to Gollivan's ears!!

That means they will be out of the door by the middle of next week then!

Time is pressing on and I wonder whether the board are having difficulties signing players ALLARDYCE has given them. It's not quite panic stations yet but WESTHAM could have done with most of the squad completed before the trip to SWITZERLAND at the weekend. They will now be leaving with a squad that could well be very different to the one that will start the season off.Not the ideal circumstances for ALLARDYCE to work under.Yet,an important thing to remember is that ALLARDYCE does have years of experience behind him, so I wouldn't have thought this is all new to him,he has no doubt faced similar pre-season dilemmas. But like you state HF the last thing he wants is a starting eleven put together last minute without even having the opportunity to have any practice sessions together before the big kick-off. This is a massive task the chairmen and ALLARDYCE have to face, these next few weeks, sorting out the comings and goings it would certainly make me feel better if it could all be finalised sooner rather than later.

I'd like to keep Cole, cash in on Green, but I think we're going to struggle to offload Scotty. What the hell were they thinking when they gave him that contract. If ever you needed proof that money and brains are not necessarily linked, you need look no further than the dildo brothers!

It is possible of course that Sam has taken a look at our 'fantastic academy' and decided to take more of a punt on it.

I'm in two minds about our youth output recently. I am not sure if the likes of Spence,Tombides,Montano, Moncur,Abdallah, Turgott and about half a dozen others are any good or is it the kind of wishful thinking all club's fans indulge in thinking that the next big thing is just around the corner.

For those that have been bubbling under for the last two years it can't have helped their development to have come to the boil as it were when we had the two crappest managers ever.

Maybe Sam thnks he can get more out of them rather than gamble on has been's adn might have been's for elsewhere.

If they started saying that they will try to persuade them to stay, I agree with HF, this signifies that they are about to be sold. "It's not our fault really, we did everything we could to keep them!...." I've seen this film before in the East End of London.

Is seems clear that Scotty is seen as a player that many clubs believe we will sell at a basement bargain price if they wait long enough. His age probably means his talents will not be required for England so the Championship is not such an issue for him given his wages keep rolling in. Personally I think we got his best year last season and his value and his performances will drop off in the coming battles - but he is a fighter and would be instrumental in getting us back to the Prem if he stays. I would hate to see him leave for a stupid transfer fee but the owners should have seen that coming when they negotiated his last deal. Cole - don't care much if he stays or goes but again let's hope that we can get some money for him - although his scoring record last year makes that look exceedingly unlikely.
