Pay on the Day the Order of the Day

Well there's a surprise. The OS has "announced" that you can roll up on the day and pay to get in to the friendly against Zaragoza tomorrow.

Given the club was struggling to sell out Premiership games last season - even when we played at home to Chelsea - this is surely going to be the order of the day for most of the coming season. How low will the prices go to persuade fans to show up for a game against Doncaster is the question.

Everything hinges on hitting the ground running. If we storm the division like Newcastle did a couple of seasons back, then Upton Park will rock. But if we struggle, those prices will drop lower and lower and lower. Two big worries persist. Yes the kids have done well in friendlies but the squad is, in truth, paper thin with inadequate defensive cover; whilst up front, we are goal shy. Somehow, Allardyce has to find a way of scoring more than one goal per game.

Fuck me, we are in trouble. Not only is he the manager, he's playing at centre forward as well? Jeez, I knew we were skint.......

It does work Kevin, you'll probably find you are in the league. Have you entered a Championship team too? I could end up writing more articles on the performance of our fantasy teams than on what Allardyce's boys achieve!

Why is not selling out a 35,000 seater stadium for a pre-season friendly a big deal HF?

Since when have we sold out a pre-season friendly at Upton Park?

This is typical of your dramatic blog writing, making something out of nothing.

Struggled to sell out to Chelsea at home last season yes but don't forget we still had an average attendence of about 30,000 over the course of one of the worst seasons in the clubs history.

The problem isn't in the stands, the problem is on the pitch. Give us something to watch and something to cheer about and we will fill the stadium no doubt. This doesn't just mean results, but a bit of work ethic would be a start.

I employ irony when I start the article with "Well there's a surprise" 1225, and I make the same point that performances on the pitch will determine if the gates are good or poor.
