England's Declaration Too Early

Maybe it was the right call based on the game situation but, from a purely personal point of view, I was not amused. I have a ticket for today's play at Lords and I would have loved to see Pietersen smashing the ball to all points of the ground before watching the Indians bat.

The sun is shining, my hunch is that India will score 400 plus and I am in for one of those days where you think, great company, impressive batting, but I just wish it was England out there with the willow in their hands and the opposition bowlers toiling.

Still I should see Tendulker at Lords in the 2000th Test Match. So, it may be a little boring but I will be watching history in the making!

Hope you have/had agreat day. Not much choice on declaration, no sense going on batting your first innings on third day unless you have an enormous score or the hope of one. if you want win you need 20 wickets. maybe should have picked five bowlers.

Looked like an interesting day of cricket to me HF fortunately your pessimism was't rewarded

Well at least you saw the England bowlers have a good day. I look forward to you re-hashing the threads regarding the "selection" of Qatar to hold the 2022 world cup now that their man has been banned from football for life for "attempted bribery", as FIFA seem to be overlooking the elephant in the room regarding said "selection"! Any chance some Russians will now be found guilty of similar?

what was that? Mistake? 400+? I think you should stick to the football fanno!

LOL It ended up a great day's play! That's the joy of cricket, things rarely go the way you expect.

After an hour we were settling down to that 400 + total for India, then it clouded over and Broad started to roar in. Then Tendulker and Dravid took control and that 400 + total looked probable again, then the England boys wrestled back control.

So, all in all, a great day's cricket. Dravid remains a masterful batsman and it was a privilege to see him construct an excellent hundred - though Swann dropped him early doors.

Great day out!

And now look what's happening! And the ill educated think cricket is boring!

And what would England give at the moment for an extra 50 runs plundered at the end of the first innings when Indian bowlers were tired and under the kosh!

tommy d said...

And now look whats happened! India are bound to need that 400+ you were talking about now!

True tommy - what a great advert for the game of cricket this match is!

Dave, I drink gin and tonic, followed by beer, followed by lager, followed by a curry with more lager. I am suffering today!

just a question for you fanno, what were the indian fans like? Good company or pain in the arse?

Hammersfan said...

No, I get in as a "Member's Friend". He is a Member because his Dad was a member, and his Dad was one of those MCC old fogies!
