My position on Avram has been clearly stated. I backed his appointment. I still had faith in him despite the four defeats. We are two points down on the equivalent fixtures last season, so he is only marginally behind in the Grantazola Index. There's plenty of time to turn it around. But Grant's decision to relegate West Ham behind his religious superstitions is unacceptable. He should be sacked.
But we need to know now WHEN Grant first raised this with Sullivan and Gold. Were they told at the time of his appointment? If so, then more fool them for going ahead with the appointment and Grant is absolved of most of the blame. If, however, Grant took the job without raising this, then all the blame rests at his door. Gold, of course, knows all about Yom Kippur and presumably saw the clash with the Stoke fixture.
We also need to know why an application wasn't made to reschedule the game. As I say on another thread, I'm sure the Premier League could have been maneuvered into agreeing on the grounds of religious tolerance had such an application been made early enough. There may have been some "Ecky Thump" protests from up north but I don't think the powers that be would have dared to say, "We don't care what the Jewish religion says, the game goes ahead regardless."
So, why didn't that happen? Was it because Grant dropped his Yom Kippurshell too late to do so, or did the club simply fail to explore the possibility?
And finally, why did we learn about this through the press and not via the Official Shite. Who broke the story, Grant or the club? What was the idea? Were Gold and Sulllivan trying to embarrass Grant into attending the Stoke game, or was Grant using the press to remove pressure for him to attend? Once it was in the public domain, how could Sullivan and Gold insist he go against his religious beliefs?
There is, of course, an added problem here. Does it now become more difficult to sack Grant? Just imagine if he claimed to have been sacked because of his religion, a carry over from his observation of religious practices. What a mine field!

I think it'd be almost impossible for him to claim to be sacked because of his religious beliefs because a) Gold will say he is a Jew himself so wouldn't do that to a fellow Jew b) They will say they did not object when he wanted Yom Kippur off c) They can use the fact that we have played four, lost four and conceded 12 goals in the process as reason for dismissal.

For those that obviously don't know, Yom Kippur is the Jewish annual opportunity to say sorry to God and to get into his good books for the coming year/season. Sounds like a good idea to me.
West ham make me laugh. they keep asking our fans to buy tickets on the official website and go to all this matches and even our manager cant be bothered. they can stick their tickets and matches up their arse if you ask me. if the manager cant be bothered then why should i fork out 50, 60 , or 70 quid to watch that load of crap. i only get to watch about half hour of the match anyway because were normally 3 nil down by then and i end up walking out pd off and making my way down the pub.

1851, religious beliefs are superstitions. There is no scientific proof for any of the "traditions" and each religion holds different beliefs and customs. How can what the Jews believe be TRUE and what the Muslims believe be TRUE and what the Christians believe be TRUE and what the Hindus believe be TRUE and what the Buddhists believe be TRUE? They all contradict each other on so many points. It is superstition therefore - a credulous belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge.
My Dad believed absolutely in touching wood, in just the same way as Avram believes in Yom Kippur. Except, that belief came from sailors grabbing hold of planks after the sinking of a ship and so saving their lives. So my Dad's superstition has some evidence to support the idea that touching wood brings good luck. Of course, the coffin he was cremated in was made of wood so, at the end of his day, his superstition was just as bogus as those of all the major religions.

HF for once i agree with you. a club as big as west ham and lets not kid ourselves are a big club with a massive fanbase should have a lot more trophys in our trophy cabinet then the 4 with only managed in our 115 year history. the reason being is because west ham fans always take shit off the owners all the time and the owners know that what ever shit they dish out that west ham fans will always comeback in their numbers. perhaps its just because with got used to it. but it wouldn't happen at many other club of our size would it. its time we changed all that and stood up and be counted for once. what do you think Hammers fans.
Im guessing the reason it wasnt announced until late was.. He was a new manager getting settled, it was pre-season, there were backroom staff and players to sort out, buying selling and contracts, season tickets, marketing, olympic stadium bid, the more important list is endless...
The Manager having one day off for his religion is no big deal compared to running the rest of the club. Put it into perspective and stop flogging a dead horse, how many games into the season are we ? This site is as bad as the tabloids trying to fill space ! He has always taken the day off this time it just happens to fall on a Saturday. The game cant be changed due to TV.
Right up to the day before he will work with and pick the side, he is putting faith in his staff for match day only. Which if your boss gave you that extra responsibility and faith will only help boost morale and confidence. He will back the day after.

Hammersfan, how can we not be prepared for it, its one day off, the club already knew and he picks the team then back the next day. People have to cope for what happen in the 90mins thats all.
