Parker spent weeks not signing that contract. Why? Because he thought a move to Tottenham or Liverpool was on the cards perhaps? Well he can't go anywhere now so what is the point of increasing his salary and paying him massive wonga during partial retirement into his mid thirties?
If I was Sullivan, I would invite him into my office pronto and say, "Now Scott, about that contract." Parker would no doubt tap his pocket and say, "I've found that pen at last Mr Sullivan and I'm ready to sign." Suddenly the phone would ring. "Perhaps that's Mr Levy with an improved offer eh Scott? Oh no, can't be. Window's closed and they bought Van de Vaart instead. Looks like you're stuck here then Scott. You and Upson and Green and Behrami. Now, see this contract?" Sullivan takes out a lighter. "Burns well doesn't it Scott? Now get your arse out onto the training field and earn your ****** wages!"

You narrow minded little girl
What a strange comment. Please explain.
is this the same Scott Parker that you kept going on about that would be leaving the club in August?
That's the one! The one that failed to sign the contract extension and failed to commit to the club publicly until the proposed move to Tottenham fell through because Babel wouldn't go to Tottenham so they couldn't release Keane - and then along came Van Der Vaart!
Still a bit miffed our Captain and best player stayed with us and made you look like a mystic mug? Surely not...He's said nothing about a move, apart from that he was 100% staying with West Ham. What team do you support?
You really are an attention seeking tit
I agree, Parker was definitly holding out for a move.
Now he knows no one wants him, he'll be looking to stuff West Ham with an inflated contract.
tell ya the truth, yer right about this one HF. Parker still has three years on his current deal, and no new contract is going to make him any more likely to stay the NEXT time the window opens.

In your humble opinion of coarse HF. None of this is FACT. However it is a FACT that you were WRONG and Scott Parker did not get sold. Something which you categorically stated would happen and regardless of how he remained, he is STILL here.
We don't expect you to admit you're wrong. But we all know it.
Well I support West Ham, which is why I know the captain is called Matt Upson. Which team do you support Sean?
Our best player? Capello doesn't think so. Nor does Woy. They both seem to rate Carlton above Parker for some reason.
Did you not read "Hammersfan was wrong about Parker" 1217? Check the history over to the right!
A bit unfair on Parker, he was right to hold out for the prospect of joining a 'bigger' club especially one that is in Europe.
Despite those who wear the claret and blue tinted specs, both Tottenham and Liverpool are 'bigger' than West Ham. I have never begrudged a player moving from West Ham to better himself or where the prospects of success are higher. What I don't like is our players joining other mediocre teams in the EPL - and at the moment West Ham are mediocre and I have serious misgivings about the season ahead.
I take solace from the fact that when 'arry took over at WHL they had 2 points from 8 games(?) and they recovered - however when I look at the respective squads my mood deepens again.
On Parker's performances, I think he does put a decent shift in but the question is - is it an effective shift? Those constant 360 degree pirouettes leave me fuming.
The window is closed - move on and during the international break put plenty of time in on the prayer mat.
But why pay him more when we don't need to? He chose not to sign that contract for 3 weeks. He missed his opportunity!
Well, he never actually came out and said he wanted to move, so he can't be accused of holding the club to ransom.
The problem is that he was put on a pedestal by the owners so had every right to bide his time probably knowing that a pay rise was in the offing.
To expand on your last point, I wonder what the rest of the squad make of it?
The club is short of money but are willing to pay Parker over £15million over the next 4 years. Madness!
"Our best player? Capello doesn't think so. Nor does Woy. They both seem to rate Carlton above Parker for some reason. "
Utter, utter rubbish there HF. Cole wasn't given an England cap because he is considered better than Parker, it was because he is considered better than the alternative in his position. And Roy Hodgson went for Cole because he needed a striker, not because he thought he was West Ham's best player.
Did Brescia go for Diamanti because they thought he was our best player? Did Spurs go for Van Der Vaart because they thought he was their best player?
Parker has been a better player for West Ham than Cole has.
As we all know, Scotty is 29 and it was probably his last chance to join a club that plays in europe. He already signed a contract till 2013 so there was no need to hurry.
Sure, most of us would have loved to see Scotty signing the improved contract but just because he didn't sign the paper it doesn't say he turns his back on West Ham.
I used to really enjoy this blog. Over time you have devolved into nothing short of a shock jockey. You say things that you think might happen with so much certainty and ego. So quick are you to argue your side that we all delight when you are proven wrong. It's much like a religious zealot carrying a sign reading, 'THE END IS NEAR!' We see the newly risen sun and smile at his foolishness.
This is football, not a James Bond film. There doesn't have to be conspiracy and double-double crosses in every move. Yet you hope for that! I can picture you pecking away at your keyboard so sure that G+S are reading your posts and thinking, 'He's the only one that knows what we are REALLY up to!'
You are capable of better. You have done better and perhaps a good string of results will reflect here, and I think that's what we all hope for. So step down off of your soapbox and realise that the sky is not falling.
I agree see ya later improved contract after all look what a new improved contract did for Capello
None of this actually matters.
You don't have to be a scholar to see that the contract offer to Parker is no more than an attempt to gather good will from the fans - a PR stunt, if you'd like.
The value of the contract lies not in keeping him at the club, but in potential ticket sales and whatnot.
This is of course assuming that our owners aren't insane enough to give a contract extension, and most likely a pay rise, to a 29/30 year old player with 3 years left on his current contract.
I don't understand what Sullivan is doing with the money... First was Diamanti who left for only 2'2 million, now Parker is signing an unbelievable contract for a 30-year-player, offered by Sullivan of course. And all that apart from the fact that Behrami, Green and Upson are staying another season at Upton Park...
yer i make you right,he knew what he was doing all right, but cant blame him we all would do the same, doesnt mean he is not commited to us im sure he is now,as was before, however the new contract was a carrot to fend off spurs,he should have taken it there and then and showed to us all that he was with us,but waiting 3 weeks untile closed day says he was holding out for an option,he should carry on with his 3 year contract now,we cant afford to pay a millionare loads more cash when he already has a contract with us,gold get the lighter out, scot will do his best by us anyway thats his nature,im thankfull his still here god bless you parker, god give you goals
What you are forgetting is that Sullivan said every one but Parker was up for sale in the Summer; that he had promised the fans Parker would not be sold.
He didn't say anything about the January transfer window......
On balance I am pleased we've retained Parker's services. That said, I do think HF may well be right when he says that Parker's lack of enthusiasm for signing the renewed contract offer, coupled with his fairly unenthusiastic sounding "I'm staying at West Ham" remark on Tuesday out of the car window probably indicates that he had hoped he would be snapped up by a 'big' club.
I also agree with HF that to offer a 5 year deal to a 30+ year old at the sort of levels being touted around at the beginning of the month is, in our situation, pretty bonkers.
LOL OK Eightdouble, but I really did expect Parker to go and remain convinced that he would have gone but for the ankle injury to Defoe and possibly the Crouch back problem. Spurs suddenly needed Keane or a replacement for Keane - which is where Babel came in to the equation.
Not everything is a conspiracy and, given the limited funds, I think G&S have played the market quite well overall - although I expect the loss of Daprela to prove costly.
Please can you support the kid below he is doing an amazin task.
My name is Jonjo and I am 8 years old.
Between the 24th and 26th February 2010 I will be walking from Wembley Stadium to West Ham United in memory of my nanny who died from bowel cancer. I am also walking in memory of Bobby Moore and all of the money I raise will be donated to The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.
I have been very lucky to have recently heard from WHUFC who will be helping me, Cancer Research UK are also helping me too. I am emailing you to ask if you could please help me spread the word. This year my sister raised £9500 for our local hospice in memory of our nanny. I want to beat her amount. On the 26th February I will be walking the final part of my challenge from Bobby’s childhood home in Barking to the centre circle of the pitch before kick off against Liverpool. I am a season ticket holder and WHUFC have agreed to let me have a collection on the day too. It would be nice if some of the fans could do the last stage of the walk with me (I might need a shoulder carry as I could be tired by then).
Can you please give me a mention on your website? My sister has made a website for me which has just been launched HERE. it has details of the wallk including the route. My just giving page is www.justgiving.com/fornannyandbobby and my email is fornannyandbobby@sky.com. All of these are being watched by mummy and daddy too.
