I'm not a big fan of Capello but credit where it is due, he is building a team that could impress in the Euro finals and which may prove to be a real force in the next World Cup. Hart, Smalling, Cahill, Wilshere (I know he didn't play last night), Walcott, Rooney, Young...these players all have two World Cups left in the tank and a team is growing up together.
The formation last night was very exciting. The third goal showed how Rooney, Young and Walcott can combine offensively, whilst Barry and Parker offered a good screen for the back four. With Wilshere still to be added to the team and an exciting crop of other young players coming through - Cleverley and Welbeck stand out - the future is suddenly looking bright!
4-4-2 seems to have been consigned to the bin and Capello has been blessed with players who fit a fluid 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 formation. At last, England have the flexibility needed to succeed at international level. Lampard already looks a spent force at international level and Gerrard must be wondering if there is a way back into this team. Gerrard for Downing and Wilshere for either Parker or Barry may be a tournament winning combination!
Just one gripe - that kit!

Just one gripe, you ok?
Have I read that right? You mentioned Parker without slagging him off!
Always knew you were really a Spuds fan. ;-)
Yeah England were good last night, still room for improvement though. A few minor issues. I dont think Walcott is a winger. He came on the scene at southampton as a striker who plays on the last man and was a sensation then he went and played for that tool Wenger and for some reason he is always played on the wing. He just doesn't really have the technical ability required to play on the wing. Consider this, Walcott playing on the last man with Rooney in the hole and Downing and Young on the wings. I think this would be a much more natural way to play that attacking foursome. It would be like the Hernandez/Rooney partnership at Utd except Walcott is faster than Hernandez.
Actually on a seperate point if Walcott had moved to Utd instead of L'Arse then I think he would be a 20 goal a season striker who was feared all across europe. It's a shame for him and England that he made the wrong choice.
Getting back to England it was brilliant to see Lampard dropped. Finally people are starting to see that he brings nothing to a team anymore. He's got no creativity, he's slow, he can't tackle. The only thing he can do is shoot and that is not what a centre midfielder is there for.
With a completely fit squad my England team would be:
Hart
Johnson Ferdinand Cahill Cole
Barry Wilshere
Downing Gerrard Young
Rooney
...…..............Hart
Smalling..Rio..Cahill/Jones..Cole
..................Parker
Johnson..Wilshere..Young
....…..........Gerrard
..…............Rooney
Up the Hammers!
walcott is neither a winger or a striker, he cant beat a man despite being one of the quickest players in the world, he just kicks it and runs and his crossing is nothing short of dire. as for a striker, he might be quicker than hernandez but walcott is very very poor in the air and his finishing is wayward to say the least, the amount of times he gets good chances and hits it straight at the keeper is so annying, his pace gets him more chances than slower players but he is not a finisher, his finishing is pretty poor. however he is young and if he can be moulded the right way he can be a good player for england but i would prefer adam johnson as a winger with ashley young the other side, i didnt like how he started young through the middle, he looked a bit lost first half. my other thought was how good man u look this year, very fluid with smalling, jones, cleverly, young welbeck and rooney and how cleverly looks very similar to wilshire. with man u and england playing a similar formation and the core of english young players playing for man u it can only be a good thing them players play week in week out gaining invaluable experience.
did you see all press references regarding Parker - looks like the general opinion is that the dropping of Lampard and the insertion of Parker is the way forward.
Did you see his booking? Typical Parker. Play him in 5 competitive international games and he will collect 2 yellows and a red!
